Thom Bell telling a story about Then Came You with Dionne Warwick and the Spinners
Просмотров 13 тыс.Год назад
Thom Bell and attorney David Steinberg discuss The Spinners manager Buddy Allen and how he needed a Las Vegas style hit to get the Spinners booked in Vegas and at the same time Dionne Warwick approached Thom and wanted a #1 Song, as she had yet to land one… And that's how "Then Came You" happened.
Rest In Peace Thom Bell 😢
R.I.P Thom...u were pure musical genius❤
For the record , Linda Creed sung Dionne's part in 1975 , not 1978 . I know , I was there . I remember vividly and am totally willing to give an interview about that night .
RIP Thom Bell! 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
The TSOP gave R&B really good music
Thank You MR. THOM BELL, Your Gifted Talents added! On to The Delphonics Sound Was What Kept Me out of trouble For over Four Decades. Rest In Peace And from My Heart and everything i Love...Thank You❤🙏
I was just listening to "Hurry Up This Way Again" by The Stylistics last night. That one is downright sexy. He did great work with The Spinners, New York City, Elton and Dionne, etc. but his production and songwriting with The Stylistics can still take my breath away.
What a great guy. One my favorite song writers! very tactile and tactful. So knowledgable. I wish there was more interview footage of him.
Concerning Songwriting and Arranging just a wonderful talent. R.I.P.
The ONLY thing wrong with that Spinners Live album is that "Love Don't Love Nobody" ends on one side, so you have to flip the album over to the hear Pt.2. Otherwise, Steinberg may be right: it is the greatest album ever.
A gigantic loss to the music world when he passed.
To me this is like interviewing Bach or Beethoven.
Heard this guy's name for decades but never saw him
What year was this interview? Thom still looks good.
2018 in nyc
Beatles did great signing with the labels they did.
What a refreshing and informative interview. Nev thought of him as such a talkative person. Thank you Thom for providing a soundtrack to our lives.
All four of my kids were born to the philly sound. I am 70 years old and still listening to the philly sound. Spinners, stylistics, The Delfonics, teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin and the blue notes. February 2023..
It was 1975. Not 78.
not sure how I could have messed that up - 1978 was Jonny Edwards era - not the same... and by 1978 they were doing Valley Forge Music Fair
What a legend may he rest in peace the work that he did with Russell Thompkins junior is legendary also with the spinners and many other great groups, so underrated !!!!
I always wanted to meet Thom Bell, as I love his songs. Just realized about his passing. So sad. RIP to one of the most talented songwriters in history. You’re a down to earth genius.
I fell in live with the Spinners when I was a teenager.
The host is right. That Spinners live album is the best that has ever been made. Beautiful. "And if Sam was here tonight/then everything would be mello like a jello of love..."
Awesome
Thom put his stamp of genius not only on the brilliant songs that he co-wrote, but just as much with all the songs he produced arranged, and also sang on (uncredited) !
I was a friend of Thom Bell for many years, starting when we first met in 1966. Over the years we were friends, I was fortunate enough to go to various recording sessions with him at Sigma Sound. I actually drove him to Sigma, as he didn't drive at the time. I remember well, being at the Stylistics sessions for "Stop, Look, Listen to Your Heart." I was in amazement watching this genius at work, and had to pinch myself at the time, realizing how lucky I was to be in the presence of this genius---the very musical genius whose music I had fallen in love with since the release of "He Don't Really Love You" by the Delfonics years prior. Several years later, as our friendship grew, Thom asked me to write the liner notes for the Spinners album "Pick of the Litter." Our friendship lasted many years---even through his move to Washington State. A truly wonderful human being, a kind-hearted, understated soul, who never sought the limelight--because he didn't have to. A true architect of the Philadelphia Sound, a true gentleman to everyone he met, and a musical genius I'll always, fondly remember with a smile. Love you and will miss you, man...........
Beautiful
Beautiful human being very warm and kind
Your post brought me to tears...thanks for sharing your experiences with this legend. Would love to have met him
You are a lucky man sir. Very sorry for the loss of your friend and musical genius.
Go birds!!!! Let's see if we can't get there again huh boys
I think Thom Bell's work and R&B/Soul music of the '60s and '70s should be taught in music schools.
Thom Bell carried the essence of Philly soul with him, because he was one of its creators and pioneers. A prolific songwriter who I wish I had met. RIP.

R.I.P. Thom Bell (January 27th,1943- December 22nd,2022) Still can’t believe it. He was my number one favorite producer. Praying for his wife, children, and grandchildren. 😭
Thom's Legacy, is Phenomenal! May His Family Be Blessed.
A massive lost to the music in 2022, so many masterful songs, signature soul music. RIP Thom.
I miss Mr. Thom Bell. I had always wanted to meet and work with him. Maybe I can through his children one day! May he Rest in Heaven with The Most High.
I feel the same way. I have desperately wanted to meet and talk to Thom Bell and Linda Creed since 1974. I've been feeling really bad these past days since I learned of his death. I feel like I'm in a very dark cloud that I can't get out of.
Hi Jeff it’s me V 😉
