Hi! Thanks for checking out my music. I appreciate the visit. I am mostly posting videos of tunes that I made up at one point or another. This seems to be the best way to share this stuff for busy dudes like myself who don't gig much. If there is ever any interest, I can also post videos detailing some of the tricks that I use in arranging and doodling (I don't want to say writing, since these never actually get written - they are just made up). The tunes are basically original fingerstyle acoustic guitar solos mostly influenced by Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, all of the old blues guys, Pat Donohue, Tommy Emmanuel, Steven King, and Eric Lugosch. I don't want to characterize them as any one style, but I assume you will find some blues, jazz, rock and country type stuff weaved in through out the tunes. I guess I tend more toward the blues and rock influences since I have been a rocker a lot longer than I have been an acoustic player.
HsienMo Parlor - For Sale - Sold
This was an impulse purchase that I need to sell to make space. I am not certain of the woods, but I think it is a solid redwood top and solid cocobolo back and sides. Check out the pics to see for yourself. It is a really nice mid-price guitar. All solid woods, great build. Made in China. Very pretty.

This video will be linked via whichever method I decide to try to sell this guitar with. It is a very fine budget guitar. Plays itself. I didn't mean to buy it, quite frankly, but I did so now I have to sell it because I don't have space to store it. It is made from all solid woods and it sounds quite good. If you are in the market for a budget acoustic, check these out. They play super easily ...
Chris Lilly - Solo Fingerstyle Guitar - The Void

This is a special tune to me because I recently wrote it for my youngest daughter, Natalie (17). She named it The Void. I thought that it fit so I went with it. Natalie is an amazing young woman who wants to be a police officer when she finished college. Looking forward to following that journey. In the meantime, I hope you Enjoy The Void. The microphone seems to have a hiss. I need to debug th...

As with most of my tunes, the feel of the tune should reflect how I am feeling at the time I make it up and then I try to find a fitting title. I have a friend in Tampa and another in the Carolina mountains that were impacted by Helene and Milton. I know of others too, but these were the people I was thinking about when I made this up. The devastation in those areas makes me both sad and angry....

Getting to the end of a beautiful week on Anna Maria Island in Florida. I usually pick while the girls sleep in and then take a bit getting ready. After going through the normal tunes, I often end up finding something new to capture the moment when we go on vacation. Way back in the day when Serikulus was still active, we had a tune called Midnight Angel. One of the lyrics was, Am I good enough...

Ever since I saw Crossroads for the first time when I was young, I have been a Robert Johnson fan. If I could sing, I would play his entire catalog as a priority. But, i can't. I can, however, steal some of his licks and put them in a tune dedicated to him. A little sped up and twisted with some other stuff in there as well, but this mostly how i feel when I listen to Robert Johnson. The Man!

One of my favorite guitar players was Woody Mann. I used to watch his videos on how to play the blues like Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller and the like. He had a very organic sound. We lost him last year. Very sad. Such a nice, talented guy. I saw him live only one time, but i watched his instructional videos all the time. Listened to his CDs (Stairwell Serenade is a masterpiece of solo fingersty...

The Super Bowl kicks off in a bit over an hour. I have no skin in this game so i am completely Carefree as it relates to the outcome. This is a tune I made up a while ago. It is the Carefree Blues. I am carefree, but I do have the blues that my Vikings aren't in it.

This is another older ditty made up shortly after Covid. I had a negative work experience that went poof and went away. 'Nuff said about that. My favorite thing about posting these videos is that I usually forget about them a month or two after I make them up unless I really like them. These videos up here are a good reminder of tunes that I have forgotten how to play. I recommend that to other...
Chris Lilly - Solo Fingerstyle Guitar - Chet 101
Просмотров 11910 месяцев назад
This is an older tune that changes nearly every time I dust it off. One main theme and then a bunch of whatever comes to mind at the time. Some of the odd parts are ripped off from Chet and some are just me being me. I love Chet Atkins so much that I was going to name my first child after him. But, she probably wouldn't have liked that very much. ;)

I just got this new Emerald X10 guitar. Holy crap, what a guitar. It gets very dry up here in Minnesota when it is so cold that I can't leave wood guitars out on stands. I have a CA Cargo that I mostly just use for travel that I can leave out, but it sounds Meh when compared to 'real' guitars. So, I was looking for a full sized one that I can also leave out. Anywho, this is a really fun guitar....
Chris Lilly - Fingerstyle Solo Guitar - Applesauce Rag

A few weeks ago, I was talking to a good friend about a special moment she had with her son. They were making applesauce together and having a great time. It was a touching story, so I made a mental note to make up an upbeat tune and call it Applesauce Moments. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I did make up that tune, but I did in a rag style which is unusual for me. As Pat Donohue said in hi...

A week ago Tuesday, I was getting my last game of ball in with my buddy that I play 1:1 with once a week when weather permits and availability exists. I was going after a loose ball that he didn't want me to have so he swatted at it and accidentally got my index finger on my fretting hand instead of the ball. Dang that hurt. In fact, it still hurts. So much so that I still can't use it to play ...
Chris Lilly - Solo Fingerstyle Guitar - In the Parlor

This is my newest tune. When I feel stressed or overwhelmed, I to into the parlor and get lost in a new composition. The composition generally takes on the emotion that I am feeling at the time. Instead of naming this after what I was thinking about as I usually do, I named at the place that I go to for peace.

Another beautiful guitar and performance
Sweet! I learned the Heimlich Maneuver from a restaurant busboy in Grand Teton Park decades ago, who demonstrated an Allen Page tackle. "It's like that," he said. He was a student at Ball State University, where "everybody cheers for our team, 'Let's Go B___!'" 😎
Nice! Is that a guitar humidor cabinet?
Great to hear a new post from you. Vikings having a great year!
Thank you. I have posted this tune before, but I am thinning the herd right now. this guitar sold in less than an hour. I probably underpriced it. With any luck, My Vikings will see your Chiefs in the SuperBowl. The Eagles, Packers, Rams and Lions all need to play along for us. Too may good teams in the NFC. Merry Christmas and Happy new Year!
@@fingerpickerguy Merry Christmas. Dont tell my friends but Im ok letting the Vikings win. Kc has won a lot! Several good teams so it will be a great playoffs. No surprise you sold that guitar. It sounded beautiful. All the best
Sounds good, Chris!
Hey . Long time since I've heard you play. Great your back. Terrible storms in the US. Incredible destruction and all the money goes to the Ukraine! I hope they get the help they need! keep picking my friend. Best therapy there is! All the best my friend. On the plus side, Vikings are great this year. Hope for a Vikings visit to the Super bowl
I was hoping that you are still out there. Hope you are doing well. I will go looking to see what I missed from your posts today to check out what you have been up to, always good stuff. I have this fall event that I am a part of every year, bands for the brave in Stillwater, MN, that takes me away from my acoustic. So, I go dormant every summer while I prepare for that with what time I have available. Oh yes! The Vikings are on fire. I won't jinx it by thinking that far ahead. As soon as we started to play well last year, we lost our QB and some key defensive players in our secondary and that basically ended our year. But, I feel great about the Vikings. Really deep on defense this year and tons of talent on offense. But, just like last year, if we lose our QB to injury, it is over. What is even more exciting is that from what I saw at training camp, JJ McCarthy will be even better than Darnold. We will have a cheap QB contract for 3 more years. We can load up on talent around JJ for the next three years and see if we can't get past your pesky Chiefs just one time.
@@fingerpickerguy I formed a blues band back in spring so I have shifted my playing style. Having a lot of fun . WE have around 30 songs. Most covers but a few I made up. Fun to play with a harmonica player/ singer. Gonna be another exciting NFL season. I'm ok with Vikings doing well. I grew up north of you. Keep picking!
very nice! may i ask what guitar this is?
Sorry. I replied with my phone, but it didn't stick for whatever reason. Firstly, thanks for watching and commenting. Secondly, it is an Emerald X10. I really like it. It is very ergonomic, impervious to humidity changes and plays like a dream. It took a minute to get used to, but once I did, it became one of my favorites quickly.
Sounds great Chris. Birds chirping in the background to
Lucky you. I am stuck in the rainy west coast. Enjoy the sun. Great playing as usual.
I was on the west coast earlier in the week; San Diego. It was beautiful. Thank you. No bad days where there is sunshine and ocean. have a great day.

Crossroads is a great movie. Great playing
Agreed. Helped me discover the blues. I just wanted to see Steve Vai at the time. Win win. I love that movie.
@@fingerpickerguySteve Vai. I was obsessed with him and shred guitar for many years! "O Brother where Art thou" is a great music movie as well

@@fingerpickerguy Well that explains where you get your style from. I can see the influence. Great player. Thanks
love this song too and that guitar is so sexy cool!
It is all carbon Fiber. Doesn't care at all about our winters.
very relaxing and satisfying song to listen too! Love the new black and green guitar
Thanks, Nephew (assuming that you are keeping your name private). Your channel is doing great. Good job!
Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Joe. Much appreciated.
Great tune and great second half of super bowl!
Thanks Richard. Yeah. It was a good game. I know you are a Chiefs fan. Good time to be one of those. Someday, before I die, hopefully the Vikings will go on a run like the Chiefs have. One can only dream. If they do, my life will be complete.
you have a very unique style. Many different chords. I love the sound of your new guitar.
Thank you! It probably looks more complicated than it is. I use a lot of chord fragments so it may simply be that my fingers aren't in recognizable shapes, though the sounds are recognizable. I do like to alter them a bit here and there. Love playing notes outside the scale and resolving them to a chord tone. The jazzer in me. This is the second newish guitar that I didn't vibe with the first time I played it. It was being sold locally here by a guy who switched to a Taylor. I checked it out, liked it, but didn't love it. So, I left without buying it. Turns out, I forgot my airpods at his house. He told me that he would reduce the price if I came back, picked them up and bought the guitar. I went back with a proper acoustic amp to listen to it plugged in. That made the difference. If you get the chance to play an Emerald, I recommend it. It is one of two carbon fiber guitars that I have. I have a CA Cargo that I travel with as well. I have had a rainsong in the past, but I didn't like it. The other newish guitar was a Bedell Bellisimo parlor guitar. OMG. I love that little thing.
@@fingerpickerguy Hard for me to find many guitars because Im a lefty.
Nice playing. Some interesting ideas and you did all the soloing finger style!
Thanks. I don't usually do so many arpeggios during breaks, but seriously, this guitar kinda plays itself. Still getting to know it, but the reduced friction makes me do things I normally just do when playing an electric. Thanks for listening. :)
btw, What happened to your index finger?
I was playing basketball and lost a fight for a loose ball to a dude a good bit bigger and stronger than me. I did whoop his butt in the game though. So, there is that. ;)
It sounds beautiful Chris. Happy for you. New guitars are always mood lifters. I grew up North of you in Winnipeg Mb, Canada
Hope you are having as tame of a winter as we are having. I don't get up that way very often. beautiful country.
Great playing Chris. I like how you add little runs into the chords. I also like that guitar cupboard in the background. Happy picking.
Thanks, Richard. I really appreciate that. The cabinet was made by Joel Sahlstrom who also made several of my guitars. As for the runs, I played electric guitar first so I can't help myself. ;)
"promosm" 😜
Nice tune. Sorry about your finger!
Thanks Richard. That was a rough 6 weeks! hard to play a guitar without an index finger, but I had to do something. You know how it is.
Really nice Chris
Thank you, Richard. Greatly appreciate your support.

Great playing Chris
Thank you for listening, Richard. Great stuff you are posting.
@@fingerpickerguy thanks Chris. Definitely great to connect with fellow guitar lovers around the world. Keep making great stuff
Sounds great Chris. What do you use to record? Nice sound quality
I use a Rode Mic Pro+ plugged into my camera. Then, I add a touch of reverb and EQ. But then, I drop the audio into a service called eMastered on-line and have it automaster the audio. Drop that back onto the video and it is done. The first time I did this a few months ago it took hours to figure out through trial and error. Now, the process takes 15 minutes once I get the video recorded. Still a lot of room to improve, but good enough for what I am doing. The dude who has this nailed is Joe Robinson. His videos sound outstanding. He is a pro though. Thanks for asking and for the support. I really appreciate it.
@@fingerpickerguy Thanks for taking the time to share

You are busy creating a lot of great music. Well done
Thanks. I am really just busy recording the material I have made up since my solo recording I put out a couple years back. There are 26 or so of these little ditties I want to put up here instead of the streaming services. Then, I will take the best 12 or so and record them properly. That is the plan. I can't tell which people may like better so I put them up here in hopes of figuring that out. I really appreciate the feedback and support that you have been leaving.
@@fingerpickerguy Great stuff. I comment a lot on many guitar players acct . Too many of us get so few likes. Try to support our small group of talented guitar lovers. You've got some great ideas. Well done and best of luck form Canada. Again sorry for my earlier comments seeming repetitive but I was thinking about what chord ideas you use and not inspiration from around you.
That is a great thing that you do. I should follow suit. Chord Ideas? We can chat about that. I don't think so much in terms of chords as I do voicings. I can still hear my music theory teacher in my head from 35 years ago talking about voice leading, deceptive cadences, song structures, etc. Though I am a HUGE Chet and Travis fan, I try to do something different with my arrangements. So, I look at it more like a piano player. What is the nearest voicing that will create the right tension or release, depending on what gives. When I do play actual chords, they are usually some sort of jazz shape. Truthfully, I use some chords that I don't even know what they are. They just sound right because they set up whatever comes next.
@@fingerpickerguy Thanks for sharing. Happy playing!
Good on your Vikings! I’m a kc fan, sorry You have a unique approach to the guitar Great playing! Be interested to know how you come up with your songs.
Hmm. My replies don't seem to stick. No idea why. Anywho, I tried to say that I like to think that Mahomes is a Minnesota guy since his dad pitched for the Twins. So, I can root for KC when they aren't playing the purple. They are also in the AFC so we don't cross paths often. They have the beginnings of a dynasty though, so that makes them borderline unlikeable. :) As for my approach, I am not sure that unique is good . . ., but I prefer to make up my own tunes on acoustic since I essentially just play covers when I play electric. I am in a couple cover bands. As for approach, it depends on the tune, quite frankly. Sometimes i am just playing something that represents how I am feeling at the moment. Other times, I am trying a harmonic or melodic idea out and taking it for a spin. I really appreciate you watching my tunes. Thank you. This is niche music. I started watching your videos as well. Good work.
@@fingerpickerguy Sorry I mean from A technical stand point how do you write stuff? Chord progressions. Thanks. I play niche music as well. I guess If I had a fancy hat or a special dance I would get in the millions of likes but just playing old school high quality music. I do it for the enjoyment as you must as well
i lived thru all of that great music to! rock on
The good old days. Still gets me moving though. :)

did you make this song up on your own? Great playing
Could have sworn that I replied to this last week. Yes, I made this up while hanging out at my sister's house in Colorado a couple of weeks ago. This is my newest tune. I was trying to start with something that sounded very dissonant and then resolve it and then make it kind of funky.
