The Yee-Hawification of Hip Hop: What's Going on with Genre?
Is Post Malone allowed to be country? Are video essayists allowed to talk about country music? Let's find out together as I go sepia tone instead of sitting in the dark this time.

    You seem to miss understand country, its Pop. Its been Pop. Then rap has been pop since OutKast, they are Good but Pop. Sorry Mrs Jackson, but rap is pop. Also driving Cadillacs in our dreams is lame, i would consider Portishead more acceptable in transforming rap. Used to bump UGK and Portishead, they would both bump just as deep and hard. Once you get th artist driving the charts, its Pop

    i learned how to read with HP, it was my fav book series growing up and I've read it more times than I can count. That being said, as a WOC, growing up and learning about racism and white supremacy and putting names to the trauma I've experienced has kinda ruined it for me forever. Back then, I just didn't know any better and there was just nothing to read targeted specifically towards people like me. Now, I see the book series as a lowkey reinforcement and reflection of many of the hateful and racist ideologies that permeate western societies. I'm not saying JKR doesn't write compelling literature, she does, but the content is undeniably stained by all of her values, even if she didn't openly express them back then.

    I love this style of pop culture essay! It felt like a music business lecture in college😂 being in a music industry program in 2019 when old town road came out was wild lol plus 2019 it felt like the music industry was in a stale/declining stage and was about to have a huge shift, and then it did.

    In my opinion, it’s a parallel effect of the rise of new wave Mexican corridos. The new wave of Mexican music on the radios in the US is guitar heavy, and this has helped soften people to the idea of more guitar in popular music

    I am so happy that I found this channel while it's so small! I hope you post more content like this. On the video I also feel like there has been such a split in country since like 2020 with either Nashville country and then the Zach Bryan, almost folk country. I would love to see a video on that too.

    As someone who lives in a European country where - as far as I can tell - has been of zero medial importance, at least for the longest time, and also as someone who's personal music listening mainly consists of unpopular metal stuff, this whole pop country development I'm only witnessing via American social media and RUclips is highly fascinating, but might as well be fully fictional. As far as I'm concerned, anything that doesn't sound like bluegrass isn't country, just country flavoured pop, and that's not me being weird about it, that's me being completely out of touch.

      Bro Country died around 2015 or so and was replaced by what’s called "Boyfriend Country" and snap tracks (2016-2019) which was then replaced by a new big 3 of Zach Bryan, Luke Combs, and Morgan Wallen. This style is what I call "Internet Country" (2020-present) because it’s largely driven by the audience streaming their favorite songs independently of the previously dominant Country Radio and Music Row. You have to remember that Country Music relies on its own ecosystem that’s long been separate from other genres so if you want solid info on its trends, you need to listen to people like Grady Smith (a Country Music Journalist) who specialize in the genre itself rather than outsiders who have a hard time understanding what really is going on.

    Giving my perspective as someone who fell out of love with HP while the books were going on (for me, the books are the main thing - the movies are just add-ons): I am a Millenial who was just at the right age for book one and I loved the books until the end of the Goblet of Fire (and I read all of them as they came out from book three or four). This is where they started to lose me. And while reading The Order of the Phoenix, I remember _hating_ Harrys puberty antics and just wanting to smack him all the time (at this point, I was 17 and Book-Harry was 15 - also, I am AroAce and female). I somehow found back to the books with the Half-Blood Prince - again until the end. Killing Dumbledore got me. And I didn't appreciate it. And I _hated_ The Deathly Hallows. (I never watched the movies.) Having Harry, Ron and Hermione camp in the **** woods for the entire **** book while just listening to other people talking about who has died off-page now. *And at the same time those dumbasses were wearing the *** horcrux locket they got from Umbridge.* (I distictly remember leafing back in the book to where they got the locket to find something to explain why they were stupid enough to wear that thing that contains a piece of the soul of He-Who-Must-not-Be-Named. Something like them being unable to transport it anywhere than on their bodies. But I did not find such a passage. ... So I must assume that all three of them are _bloody stupid_.) And at the Battle of Hogwards, where Rowling killed off one of the Twins (doesn't matter which one - maiming one in the first chapter was bad enough), and *** killing Lupin and Tonks off-page, I was done. Not mentioning that contrived BS that made Harry come back to life. For me, J.K Rowling lost me with her writing during the book series itself. And I can never go back. For me, Harry Potter is done. The garbage J.K. has pulled since then just adds to the pile for me. I know what has been going on in the Phantatic Beasts' movies - but I don't care. (I share the same birthday as J.K. Rowling / Harry Potter and knowing that sucks now.)

    Look, I enjoyed Harry Potter as a child too. As a child, I wouldn't know why "Cho Chang" or "Kingsley Shacklebolt" are weirdly racist names. I wouldn't understand why saying racial slavery is okay and the slaves "like it". I didn't know what a justice system was, but now I do and I can say that Azkaban is a torture prison akin to Guantanamo Bay. As a child, it would go way over my head that the goblins are highly antisemitic (they are that in the book as well, greedy backstabbing bankers who are irredeemable because of their race...). As a kid, I thought "Voldemort is evil" is enough of a motivation for a bad guy. Now I should probably realize that defeating Voldemort without fixing anything in the wizard society - the slavery, the inequality, the wizard supremacy, etc - is actually a terrible ending to a story. As adults, I think we need to be able to critically look back, even at the things we liked, and not be ashamed to say - I liked this, but I was a dumb kid and this thing is actually pretty terrible. As adults, we should be able to understand, that buying merch, movie tickets, or going to HP Theme Parks directly pays JKR's bills and adds to her fortune. We could also look at other children's fantasy books and see that not only is HP not exactly original, the story of how she wrote it was not exactly accurate and everything else she wrote was also kind of bad and perpetuating very strange political stances (not to mention her transphobia, fat-phobia and general hatred towards women who are not mothers). So as adults, we should be able to say that while I did enjoy HP as a child, I will not spend another dime on it because of what it is and what its author represents. And no, separating art from the artist does not work when the artist openly considers people buying HP merch as support of her and her ideals. It also doesn't work when she uses her massive platform to bully and spread hatred towards marginalized groups. Our dollars speak louder than any tweet, a slam in the headline of a news article or general grumbling against her. WB will keep churning out HP crap until it's not profitable anymore. Her voice is as loud as it is because of the money she makes on HP. It is time we - as adults - maybe realized that she should not be getting our money in the first place. Also, we as adults should be wise enough to know, that the HP "reboot" show is just a quick way of selling new toys, new action figures, new T-shirts with redesigned house emblems, new editions of the books with new actors on the covers, newly designed wands, etc. etc. HP is first and foremost a merch store. WB is trying to make HP fans buy all their toys and trinkets again, now with new faces and fresh new look.

    I'm actually kind of excited for the series. Also I honestly have no problem with JK Rowling. I'm very pro trans rights, but I'm all about people expressing their opinions whether I agree with them or not. Honestly this is the healthiest way to go about things. I won't hate someone just because I disagree with them. I also think women who are worried about trans women in women's bathrooms and sports are 100% justified. There are problems there that a lot of people are just straight up ignoring. The world would be a much better place if people would just have a conversation instead of attacking people for their opinion.

    • @erraticonteuse
      @erraticonteuse 11 дней назад

      1) JKR is not just "expressing opinions", she is giving money to people who are actively working against trans rights in areas that have nothing to do with bathrooms or sports. 2) It is irrational to the point of paranoia to think bathroom safety or sports are threatened by trans people. Like, statistically, it's a non-issue. Transphobes are terrifying themselves with bogeymen they've created in their minds. You are more likely to be struck by lightning than be assaulted by a trans person in a bathroom. And JKR's "valiant defense" of women's sports is getting her sued by a brown cis woman she called a man for being good at boxing.

    I feel it in my soul people from both sides are gonna boycott this show for sooo many reasons, that we’ll never hear the end of it! It’s going to be a disaster! There’s a reason why they’ve never rebooted the Wizard of Oz or Starwars and hopefully never will, because they are already cemented in pop culture history. Like, why do it?
