LobsterPea, Thanks indeed for providing this miniseries about Albert Speer and the Third Reich. While based on Speer's own partial account of the war it is a well-made film and has many good performances, including Derek Jacobi as Hitler and Ian Holm as Goebbels!

The reality is that Speer was ambitious, cunning and self-serving as well as ruthless and knew exactly what was going on in the Third Reich and was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of slave labourers, he signed the orders and knew the conditions they worked under and knew the consequences of those orders. At Nuremberg, his only concern was to save his own life, so he concocted his ploy of the repentant Nazi when he was anything but that and was totally ruthless in carrying out his orders, which he did with ruthless efficiency and kept Germany in the war for a lot longer than it would otherwise have done.

This should be on blu-ray. Its a classic and deserving of quality preservation.

What undermines the series is the fact that there's snow on the ground in almost every outdoor shot. You can tell it was all filmed during a few consecutive weeks. Hitler's political life didn't only happen during the winter months.

When Albert Speer took over the armaments ministry, quality went to hell. Spare Parts became nearly non existent. He just put everything into completed units no matter how bad the quality. By 1944, when Luftwaffe units would pick up new aircraft, they would first have to try find some they could use. Often many instruments was simply missing. So... I think the Allies was lucky that Goering didn't get the job.

Until the end of his life, he entertained the Western audience. This film is lemonade with a lot of sugar.

Decent film...unlike the people being portrayed. Yet seeing goering in eyeliner and red lipstick offering speer a drink makes me wonder if he just came off stage from a secret revue club starring as Herman the Queen of Prussia.

AS received 20 years in prison for his doing of forced labor among civilians. He had no doing of the executions of Jews but I’m sure he knew if it. But in the end he wanted no more damage or killing in Berlin like Hitler wanted.Hitler wanted to leave only ashes for the Russians and take everyone to to Hell with him.
