    The F7 kite doesn’t need the main body zipper and doesn’t need all the internal organization. If they switch towards a more simple ultralight backpacking style pack, eberlestock would be better off. If people pack thoughtfully, the stuff they need first is on top or in a “brain” style top pouch. I’d like to see a sub 4 lb external frame with simple hunting pack that h

      I agree with some of what you're saying. They need a simple lightweight alternative. They just came out with the Vapor line of packs to attach to the F1 and M1 frames, but I'm a little disappointed there isn't a top with this new design. I like the zipper attachment. It keeps the pack securely attached to the frame. Much better than a couple straps. And the straps are expensive! If you buy their hookup kit you're looking at another $80. That just ain't right in my opinion. You can get those "S" hooks on Amazon for a couple dollars.

    I zip two Batwings on each side of the Main Frame pack and then zip the Transformer backpack to the open zippers on the other side of the Batwings. This creates a huge cavity to either stuff the spike camp bag or any other huge waterproof bag to create a mega bag. Keeps things modular and easy to break down.

    Hi Travis, what do you say about the quality and durability of Spike Camp Duffel?

    • @travisrockwell6409
      @travisrockwell6409 5 лет назад

      The quality of the material and assembly of the duffel is good. No complaints there. The zipper attachment is a little frustrating. When you hook it to Mainframe there isn't anything to keep it pulled up. It has a tendency to undo itself unless you tie it up with some Paracord.

  • @laodealmuqarrabun656
    @laodealmuqarrabun656 5 лет назад

    Oh this is the video you were talking about. I agree with you here. It'd be better as well if the mainframe has two zippers on each side, so we could mount a duffel and two batwings, all zipped on. Anyway, since there's no sign that Eberlestock is gonna make some upgrade to the mainframe, I found this setup to be something to consider for the mean time. So it looks like the duffel is zipped on the mainframe, and the batwings are strapped tight through vertical molle webbings on the back. So the batwings are still accessible without undoing the lateral straps. It's not perfect, but still viable. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0072/8173/7779/products/F1-A6SB-J2DB_376d1f52-d7d6-4f3c-8ca0-f8cd2384e29d_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v=1559237510

      @@travisrockwell6409 I actually never found someone with your kind of experience in exploring various kinds of setup with mainframe and batwings. I plan to buy a mianframe, 2 batwings, and a spike duffel, but I'm still imagining how to set them up, and would they be worthy to replace my FAC track pack. So, here is my next question. Can you zip both the batwings to the frame, and zip an empty duffel to both of the batwings, and then push the empty duffel to the back so the batwings cover the whole front of the system?

    • @travisrockwell6409
      @travisrockwell6409 5 лет назад

      @@laodealmuqarrabun656 great question. That setup should work, but the duffel bag is going to be oriented backwards. In other words, if you attach the batwings to the mainframe first, and attach the duffel to the zippers on the batwings, the duffel will have the back panel facing out from the mainframe. This might be a good thing for what you are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to compress the batwings enough to conceal the duffel it will all depend on how much stuff you put in the duffel. I don't know if you can get it totally concealed. With all that said, I've never been able to try this setup because I never bothered to buy the batwings. They are so close to what I was hoping for, but the zippers are in the wrong spot in my opinion, and it's because of the very situation you are describing here. Once you attach the battwingsr to the pack you are kinda done. I want to attach more than just the batwings. I have another video where I explain how they should have done the zippers to make a better product. Check it out and let me know what you think. Eberlestock has been so slow to develop gear for the mainframe that I'm just about to the point of sewing my own pack. I think they have the best frame on the market, but their bags have a lot of room for improvement. Thanks for all your thoughts.
