Warriors in the Wild - Offroad Recovery Training Event
Просмотров 744 месяца назад
I had an amazing time attending Warriors in the Wild’s first ever event! For this first event, a handful of veterans were able to attend a full day of offroad recovery training put on by Switchback Outdoor Safety. We were able to learn not only the correct and safe way to do many kinds of recovery, but also the “why” behind why these techniques are taught this way. If you are a veteran and not ...
Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp Review - Best Budget Awning?
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Could this be the best all-around budget option for an overland awning? The Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp is an amazing option for a vehicle-mounted awning. It doesn’t have to ride on your vehicle all the time like a traditional awning. It’s cheaper and bigger than a Moonscape awning. Have you ever tried out a Roadhouse Tarp? What do you think? Can anyone recommend a overlanding group or club in oklahoma
Your best bet is to check out "Oklahoma Overland" on Facebook. There are several smaller groups (like OKC Overland) but Oklahoma Overland is probably the biggest group.
Is this the more expensive Highlander version or the khaki version? What’s the difference?
Mine is the khaki version. I believe they are the same thing, just one is camouflaged.
Though very nice, but the most I enjoyed while watching this is just the passion you have for what you are doing. Love it!
I'm glad you can see that, I really do love working on my 4Runner!
Man Rob! I gotta go to this next year! Sounds like a great event. Great shoutout to the folks from OKC!! By the way, I need a Storm Crow Overland shirt!
It's a great event for sure!
Thank you for attending our inaugural event! We enjoyed having you there and hope you'll make it out next year. It'll be even better! 🙌🏻
Hey brother, this is Kris . Just wanted to say thank you for the awesome review and it was nice chatting with you at the vendor party.👊🏼
Thanks for hosting a great event! (sorry I said the wrong company when I mentioned you)
Thanks for the shout out to Heavy Metal offroad! We had a blast guiding the trail run!
Rob, Glad you had a great time. I said that you would like a few videos back. unfortunately, I didn't make it this year.
hope there will be video form of that teaching
Sadly we didn't get any video of these trainings but hopefully we will soon.
I like this. It maybe a little heavy for me. It appears versatile. I got the Moonshade. I like the concept, but not the quality. Thanks for the great walkthru.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice job!
Thank you for the review. I got a PV120 and a AC70. Can you suggest a fridge that draws 35 watts like you mentioned? Would be nice to have in storm situation
Mine is an Alpicool CF50, but if you search Amazon for 12v refrigerator you should come up with plenty of options.
You have to start somewhere in order to learn. Congrats!!
Good job bro
🎉 congratulations 👏🏼
Those dang Navy guys are just everywhere! 😂
Thank you so much for coming to this event!
Thanks for organizing it!
Congrats dude!
Looks good
Have to say after camping next to it at RITO23 I really liked how much coverage you had. Especially with all the rain. Our crappy 10x10 pop up just didn't clearly cut it and the fact that it sloped down all 4 sides meant water was dripping into the tailgate while we were cooking (which was her biggest complaint that weekend). I do like my little side awning for a fairly quick shade/shelter and have used it a few times even outside of camping. But I'd love to have this kind of set up for a multi day event. One thing you didn't mention was tear down time. How is the take down process? I've been finding myself wanting a faster camp pack up.
Tear down is slightly quicker than setting up, so probably just under 5 minutes.
I agree the quality surprised me, it’s so much better than I expected. For a cheap setup, it gives you a ton of different setup options, quality stuff, and packs down pretty decently small. Might be my favorite purchase in awhile.
It really is a cool overlooked piece of gear
Definitely adding that tarp system to my gear. I like the Devos light ranger idea. The directional light options it has would be great for adding light exactly where you need it.
Loved talking with you at MOORE! See you next year
It was great meeting you, see you next year!
It was great to meet you, Rob, thanks for the kind words! We know camping "in a parking lot" is not ideal but feel like you nailed it on the head when you said there is a great community vibe... and I had extra propane 😬
Like I said, it completely changed my mind on the whole idea. Thanks for doing such a great job with the campsite. I will definitely be back next year!
@@stormcrowoverland See you then!!!
Hey Rob! This is an incredible feedback review, we’re absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed the event. Thank you for your genuine and honest overview
Thanks for organizing such a great event, I will definitely be back next year!
What’s up. “Guy next to you’s kid” here🤣🤣🤣
Sounds like I need to save up some money and talk to you about doing some hunting.
@@stormcrowoverland hunting huh? What we hunting for? Lol
I store mine in gaia😂
Newbie trips are the best!
Yes they are!
1st to comment. Greetings from Western North Carolina. Hope you read my comments on your last video. Be prepared. Steve Austin here 😂😂😂
Hi Rob, I posted a prior comment that was likely deleted due to a link I included. David Morgan made the Indi hat and has lots of other adventure hats. I have the Angler style. Much cheaper is my hat with mesh sides of the crown for cooling. For his site, just run his name together and add the common extension. BTW, I couldn't find a way to send you a PM. Maybe that was a good thing, wrt me. ;) John
I'll have to check those hats out, thanks for the tip!
LOL watching your video I started typing the comment "I hope so" just as you said that everyone says that. Yes, overcrowding is a trend but the main problem affecting us personally is the wild fires. Washington State DNR closed all of the eastern Washington state land for most of the summer a couple years ago to reduce the fire risk. We left the wild fire smoke coming from Canada escaping to Oregon when a few days later the governor there declared a state of emergency due to wild fires. Off road with no cell coverage, we couldn't keep tabs on how close they were. Weyerhaeuser owns a lot of undeveloped land in western Washington. When I was a kid, my dad drove us all over their roads and we camped in a van "wherever". Most of that land is now gated off due to overuse impacts. I just noticed it's now accessible via expensive permits ($500+) and even then, the permits sell out. There's now an overemphasis on gear and Marketing hype that drives its sales. In the old days, we had cans of chili and burned pancakes using a too-thin pan on a liquid burning Coleman stove. The wood campfire was a given but now is an artificial propane burning "fire pit" (with the fancy tank mount costing more than the fire pit or tank) required so one idiot among the masses doesn't burn down the forest. The gear that makes it easier, decreases the experience of nature, IMO. Recently, we were off road at a rockhounding site for days and there were just two other camps we could barely see from ours. Then on Friday night a couple of people rolled in at dusk just as we were headed to our tent. The first thing they did was to run their generator for electricity to use their AC to cool their trailer. Gear to run their gear. It was so loud we couldn't sleep. The next morning one of the two original campers told us they were driven out by the noise and we were packing up to leave for the same reason. The experience was ruined for us and those generator people never had it, like not hearing the coyotes we heard the night before. I understand what you are saying about the experience and agree that it's special. Although, last fall we searched for one 8' x 8' flat spot for our tent and found every spot taken for 30 miles, ultimately driving hours to get back home that night. That's not the experience you meant. I expect that overlanding will peak and drastically drop off when reservations, lotteries, permits and such happen on public land the way it's happened for hunting, campgrounds and even backpacking. One of our favorite state lands made dispersed camping illegal a few years ago forcing people into the often filled campground as an "enhancement" to the area. Well, there's a local peaking of overlanding, for sure.
My 4Runner is the one with the two foot high stepladder strapped on the back. Weird, right? To reach the roof rack, we stand on the rock rails, we stand on the tries, and we even have a permanently mounted rear hatch ladder. But that little 2' ladder has a wide top that is just pain comfortable to use! It only weighs a couple pounds. A taller ladder doesn't work since it cannot face the 4Runner without being too far away to reach the rack. My ladder is pretty safe to stand on top of since it allows me to reach the rack for a hand grip. It's about the only way to get the Gazelle T4 tent up and down to/from the rack. At camp, the ladder doubles as a small end table. "All good overlaying things should have multiple uses," says Clay Croft. I showed its double use in our Cathedral Valley overlanding video. My favorite weird thing is the TWO battery systems I built and added to the 4Runner's stock one. My wife's favorite is the drawers we built. The most unique weird thing is the wind fairing on the rack front that I built. We got 20% better highway gas mileage after adding it. Not many 4Runners have built in running water from a 15 gallon tank. May be weird but we love it. The 14 USB ports added aren't even in the running with this weird list. Wow that's a lot. Maybe the weirdest of all is us. :)
Good video, Rob. You hit the highlights (though I know a UPS driver who'd like to discuss how you disrespected the Liberty he and his wife use for overlanding, LOL). And I do agree that folks need to think of overlanding as more than around their home and Moab and the San Juans (Colorado). There is soooo much more to explore, even if one stays just in North America. And to be clear: One can overland around the world entirely on pavement while staying in hotels every night and eating only in restaurants. But it's a lot more fun and challenging if they do get off the pavement, camp often and cook their own meals. Honestly, a mix of the two allows one to increase the adventure while getting to better experience the places traveled. People moving beyond their home turf to those more distant places will cause overlanding to grow.
I understand that the popular places are popular for a reason, but I agree, there is so much other stuff out there to see and exploring and finding it is half the fun.
Sure as hell has peaked and I say good riddance. Tired of the RUclipsrs and influencers shilling for manufacturers and promoting overpriced, questionable products. The whole thing has turned into a circle jerk money grab. Then we have the “bros”. Toyota bros, Earthromer bros, Jeep bros, etc… shit hanging all over their car, 8” lift on 37’s and not a ding, paint chip, or dirt spec in sight. Fuck overlanding and fuck RUclipsrs pushing it. It’s car camping your parents and grandparents did it in a station wagon.
Good video. I think the *rate* of popularity may have peaked, but unless there are drastic (and unlikely) measures such as access closures or restrictions on vehicles overall the population of overlanders of one type or another will only ever increase. As with the shift in "what is normal" in 2020, social media having overtaken traditional media has helped fuel that growth. A single person with a camera can easily put out content that would've taken a whole production crew and months and corporate approvals etc. This out overlanding in front of more people than ever. And midsize 4x4s were already growing in popularity, and now people have a better excuse to use them than the few times a year that it snows anymore.
I truly hope so. No disrespect to the true enthusiasts but I am tired of seeing videos from "enthusiasts" who really show less overlanding adventures and more philosophy and senseless talk. Sorry but that's not overlanding, you're using your platform as a podium for nonsense. Those are the people I'd like to see just move in to the next trend that I can ignore.
great video as always
I appreciate that
I think we're far from "peak overland", I think we're just seeing what was a small bubble of covid popping and causing what looks like a little dip. If you look at the companies manufacturing things, more stuff is coming out than ever and innovations are skyrocketing. Hopefully we get a "Chinese AC Unit" this year, similar to how the "Chinese Diesel Heater" happened in the past few.
A "Chinese AC Unit" would be a true "GAMECHANGER!!!!!1"
happy to have you back Rob! Let's have a great year
Agreed!
I did NOT expect to be called out like that lmao Thanks tho 😅 I'm glad you're back, looking forward to seeing what you're going to accomplish this year!
About time you posted again! Good video. Life gets in the way sometimes, but keep squeezing out time for you and keep exploring!
Don't worry, there's more to come!
Glad you're back!!!
Me too!!
Such a great idea, I was trying to figure out what you did! Npbody has it that I couldn't find. I was thinking of using differing air pressure settings on each deflator at like 5 psi increments... 10, 15, 20, etc.!
Glad it was helpful!
The only reason to go to most of these outdoor adventure expos is to see what is available that you've seen and plan on purchasing in the present or future. Of course, at a "Show Special" discount price! As long as you offset the costs of admission. There's also the social factor of getting to know the folks that are making what you're interested in. As well as the possibility of meeting like-minded people that you may meet while on trail.
After I made that video I ended up going to Rendezvous in the Ozarks and had a blast.
@stormcrowoverland I got almost all my gear from giveaways, raffles, and show specials at the events I've attended. Never pay retail if you can help it! 👍🏾
Hello Rob I hope you are having a good day man. That's awesome to hear you have been doing a great job on making video for a year now. Go & enjoy your holidays with your family man & I will see you begin of the year. Happy Holidays to you & your family man.
Thanks. Great review. Most of the reviews on this panel are a couple years old and I was looking for a current review. Like your rig!
Glad you found it helpful!
This was a great video on Holiday Gifts Guide. I would like to get my older brother the grill man. He loves to cook out on the grill every weekend. For my Holiday Gift Guide wish I can get a pair of sandals or flip flop 🩴 to wear Because my flip-flops 🩴 that I have now are very very worn out & i am about to have holes in the footbed of my flip flops 🩴 because I am a chubby fat dude & I can only wear flip flops 🩴because I have big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 & my foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots. I hope you & your family had a good Thanksgiving man & you ate a lot. I had a very nice Thanksgiving. I ate so much that I was crazy , fat , & happy at the end of the day man. I just hope that I don't get to be 400Ibs again. I have lost some weight so that was good but i think I got it back after what I just ate. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing it.
Well done.
Thanks!
That's a great question. I think you should help smaller businesses and help the community. But take my input with a grain of salt. Have a great day and love your consideration. 😊
That's what I'm leaning towards.
This was a good video man. You are right your Health is so important. I am a long distance Truck 🚛 driver. I own my own Is tractor 🚛 trailer Truck & i have to get a Health check up every 6 months to drive my truck 🚛 on the interstate. I am a chubby fat dude right now but I was almost 400Ibs. It was a big problem for me because I was born with very very extremely wide feet 🦶 with my foot grown up to a sz15 6 E wide ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots when I was 18 years old & i had to go Barefooted 👣 & live my life barefooted 👣 Style for a whole entire year because I couldn't find any footwear that was wide enough to fit my foot. It was very very difficult for me because I lost my job because I couldn't work barefooted 👣 & when I did find a job that would Allow me to work barefooted 👣 it was a summer time job only & I needed a all year around job. I was able to find a pair of flip flops 🩴 that was my size & i could get my toes to fit through. Because of my toes being Evenly straight across & my toes being very fat & chubby it is difficult to get them to fit through the flip flops 🩴straps & it's still is to this day. My Doctor my foot Doctor says that it's because of my weight & if i lose weight my feet 🦶 We'll shrink down. I lost over a 100Ibs & i noticed that I have lot more energy then i did. I have always been very Active but when you get to be 400Ibs it slow you down big time. I was getting Depress sometimes because I have been made fun of because of how wide my feet 🦶 was & how fat & chubby my toes was & how evenly straight across my toes was. I was born like that & i can't help it & when it 20° or 30° Degrees weather outside i have to wear flip-flops 🩴because my feet 🦶 will not fit into a shoe because of my toes being Evenly straight across & shoes are made for toes that are at a 45° Degrees angle. It really really Sucks man. But I found my wife who has a foot fetish over my extremely wide feet 🦶. She really really love my chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across for some reason but i love her for it. She's helped me lose my weight , help me with Is dealing with my extremely wide feet 🦶 problems i have. We made a very nice family. We have 6 boys , daughter in law , 7 year old Granddaughter , & a 1year & 6 months old Grandson. I am so sorry to hear about your Shoulder injury man. I know what you went through because I broke my shoulder back in 2017 & i still have problems & pain with it. So i started kayaking & kayak camping to help Build my shoulder back up. It's helping & it also help me lose some weight too. Iike I say I am a very very Active chubby fat dude & i do everything even riding bikes with my 6 boys & we ride 10 , 15 , 20 miles on our bike & my whole entire family when we go kayak camping we do 20 to 50 miles of kayaking with family friends that go with us for more fun. I am sorry for this being so long but this was a really really good video about your health & it should be talked about. This help me to think more about my health. Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family & be safe out there buddy.
