My name is Richard Grimett and I am based in Durban, South Africa. The majority of my videos center around catches made in and around Durban, although from time to time I will feature catches from the north and south coast of Kwazulu Natal Province, as well as Eastern Cape province. Share my excitement as I catch a number of different species on artificials. I hope you enjoy. Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions, I am always open to discussion. Double Shad Blue Lagoon Durban night spinning session May 2024
When the shad start feeding on the mullet, spinning is fun at night. This was a difficult session as the Umgeni river was draining from the outgoing tide, lots of hyacinth and debris coming down as well as a very strong current. That made fighting and landing fish in this water quite challenging, especially on light tackle. I hooked, four, landed two. The first 2 shad were just too strong and big for my tackle and eventually the braid parted. Both those fish were at least 70/75 cm plus. Tackle used: Okuma Matrix 10ft with Okuma Azores XP 4000, 20lbs Boss Braid HP, 25lbs Elbe Fluorocarbon leader and Linx quick change clips. The lure of choice was the Noeby Bullet (80mm) in pink and silver.

A nice 81cm (About 7kg) Shad taken off Blue Lagoon in Durban on a PASSION BAITS BIG STICKY XL in May 2024. It smashed the lure on the surface, and gave a massive run of about 50 meters before getting airborne. At first I thought it was a Garrick, was pleasantly surprised to see a shad.

Caught at 04:00 on a high tide. Using a McCarthy Paddle tail in Pearl. Nice to catch one in the harbour again, haven't seen them around in a long while. Okuma Matrix 10ft, Boss Braid, Okuma Azores XP.

Fishing a McCarthy Paddle tail 6inch in Hot Orange and a 2 Oz jighead at North Pier can be very successful for Kob. Make sure you cast it out deep and far, and work with 3 upwards sweeps, let it sink, and repeat.

Headed south of Durban to look for cleaner water, and managed to find a small pocket of sardines in the shore break. Loads of bird activity gave me a good indication it was going to be a good morning. Watch as I land the first of 2 Garricks caught for the morning...not even mentioning the few that I lost...what a great way to spend a morning. The Halco Slidog 150 was a beast...cast for cast it ...

With the solid summer fishing coming to an end, and the water still too warm for winter species like Garrick, the very last fish I expected to land today at North Pier Durban was this fish...perhaps the last for 2023? Really nice to see such a mature and healthy shad. If people stop bagging undersize shad, catching fish of this size would become a usual occurrence.

How do you get to North pier anyways,I mean to fish. Don't you need a special permit
Hi there, yes, you need a Transnet permit in addition to your normal fishing license to fish North Pier. Unfortunately, I know they haven't issued permits in a good number of years...
Too many hand accessories. Its bad luck. You got bracelets both wrist and a special glove.
😀Bracelets? On the left is a wrist watch, on the right is my buff that I wear around my wrist before the sun comes up, and on my face when the sun is out. The finger glove is to stop braid cutting into your finger when cast 2-3 Oz lures and jig heads. Believe me, when you cast hundreds of casts to a session, that braid will cut the top of your finger off like a hot knife through butter. Nonetheless, thank you for your support in watching my videos.
