Upgrading My Cannondale SuperSix Evo4 LAB71: Bigger Chainring, Better Performance!
In this video, I’m making some upgrades to my Cannondale SuperSix Evo4 road bike. I’ll be swapping out the SRAM RED AXS chainring from 52/39T to 54/41T and upgrading the cassette from 10-28T to 10-33T. These changes are designed to help me push higher watts and optimize my performance on the road.
As someone who’s spent most of their cycling journey riding a standard 53/39 with an 11-26T cassette, this step feels natural rather than drastic. Join me as I take you through the process, share insights on my expectations, and discuss how these modifications could make me faster and more efficient. Whether you’re a cycling enthusiast or just curious about bike upgrades, this is a ride you won’t...

    • @Bayker-yp1rd
      @Bayker-yp1rd 2 дня назад

      Great question! I haven’t had the tires long enough to fully test their long-term durability, but based on their Addix compound, they should strike a balance between grip and wear life, especially in the SpeedGrip version. That said, softer compounds like this do tend to wear faster, especially if you’re riding on abrasive surfaces or doing lots of braking. I’ll keep an eye on their wear rate and provide an update in a future video. What kind of tires are you currently using?

      Can you compare peyote vs rick please

    • @Bayker-yp1rd
      @Bayker-yp1rd 2 дня назад

      The Vittoria Peyote and Schwalbe Rick XC are both designed for XC, but they have some key differences. The Peyote is known for its super low rolling resistance and minimal tread, making it a great option for dry, hardpack trails where speed is the priority. On the other hand, the Rick XC has a bit more aggressive tread, especially on the side lugs, which provides better grip and control on mixed or looser terrain. In terms of durability, the compounds and casing options vary-Vittoria tends to focus on lightweight and speed, while Schwalbe balances grip, durability, and protection with options like Super Ground and Super Race casings. It really comes down to your terrain and riding style. That said, I’ll need to wait for the snow to clear here before I can do a proper side-by-side test on the trails. Stay tuned, and I’ll share a full comparison as soon as conditions allow!

      @Bayker-yp1rd 22 дня назад

      Fair point! The focus of this video was more on testing the tires in XC-relevant conditions, which often include gravel sections. But I appreciate the feedback - maybe next time I’ll include some more technical terrain for variety!

    • @JoshMcGehee
      @JoshMcGehee 22 дня назад

      @Bayker-yp1rd Where I ride/race (the american west) you only see fire roads in marathon races. Anything under 40 miles will typically be mostly on trails.

    • @Bayker-yp1rd
      @Bayker-yp1rd 22 дня назад

      Thanks for sharing that! It’s really interesting how race terrain varies by region. In Europe, where I mostly ride and race, fire roads and gravel sections are pretty common in XC courses, even for shorter distances. That said, I can see how trails would play a bigger role in the American West-sounds like a great way to keep things challenging! Appreciate the insight-it’s always cool to learn how XC differs around the world.

    i mean any tire is gonna be good on wide gravel path, take it on some actual singletrack and see how they perform

    • @Bayker-yp1rd
      @Bayker-yp1rd 23 дня назад

      Thanks for the comment! I see your point that singletrack is a great test for grip and control, but with XC race tires like the Schwalbe Rick XC, I tend to focus more on their performance in conditions typically found in XC - fast flow trails, technical climbs, and a wide range of surfaces from gravel to hardpack. To me, singletrack feels closer to trail riding, where different types of tires come into play. But maybe it’s worth trying the Rick XC on some singletrack as well to get another perspective. 😊

    Hi. Nice demonstration. I noticed that the cable routings wasn’t very smooth. The fork together with cable routings was a very tight fit. And are you forced to use a specific handlebar with internal routing or you can use normal bars?

    • @Bayker-yp1rd
      @Bayker-yp1rd 2 месяца назад

      Hi, your observation is correct. But my expectations have been even more low than it actually went. The operation with the fork and the hoses in its way is more challenging, but still in comparison to the internal routing through the frame where you need to get out through the small holes this was kind of a breeze. You can use standard handlebar, but then the cables go in the headset just under beneath the stem and I did not find in optical clean enough. The same is with the Cannondale combo handlebars. The FSA solution provided me the polished look that met my expectations. Whatever you plan spend good amount of time to be happy with the final result. Cheers

      That's true. First installation and only with this shopfloor pump. I have as well purchased the 26 mm version and will see how this will pop on the rims. To your second question. Those are the standard presta valves. I have as well good experience with the Project 76 and Filmore valves from Reserve. Here you don't need to remove cores from the valves (basically you can't remove them). The downside is that their cores are not stadard, so if you broke them you have a problem. For Project 76 you can replace it, but for Filmore the entire valve replacement. the 76 I broke one, therefore went back to standard on the wheel you see in the video. Filmore is so far OK, run them on my Scalpel.

    I'm only a recreational road cycler, riding Shimano 105. I targeted an upgrade to Ultegra on my next bike, being unfamiliar with the SRAM product range. I don't think that's uncommon, with Shimano being the market leader in terms of availability and sheer volume. But I'm not slowly learning more about SRAM and it blows me away. This new Red groupset alone costs twice my whole bike as it is, so that's not really an option, but its predecessor on the 2nd hand market might be in range.

All of the them are doing great job in R&D. New tech is dropping down the "lower" level group sets. Everyone sees value in different criteria. The previous Red is as well a good product and I was very happy to use it. You can have a look as well on the Force category. Wish many happy kilometres on you bike. Stay safe.

      Hi, Mezcal was long time my favorite tire. I was running the ones with the brown side wall and those didn't had a lot of protection there, so pay attention to this. Aspens ST are definitely faster, the new compound is doing well as well on the wet, what was not the case with the 3C (with the standard Aspen of course). For 50/50 gravel asphalt I would go with the Aspen ST. They really silent. I haven't tried the ST on the front wheel yet, but if you go with gravel and not a heavy loose one then you will be fine. Just be careful with muddy terrain. If it would a long bikepaking adventure, with a risk of muddy roads I would go with the standard Aspens but with the Maxspeed compound and definitely not the 3C as wet conditions is not their strength. Hope it helps.
