Squarin' Around: A Texas State Sports Podcast
США
Добавлен 7 янв 2023
Co-hosts and Texas State Alums Jakob Rodriguez '20 and Andrew Zimmel '20 first got their start covering the Texas State University Bobcats as student journalists at The University Star and KTSW 89.9. Jakob has a background in investigative reporting and served in a number of leadership roles with The Star including Sports Editor & EIC. Andrew made a name for himself calling it like it is on-air and helping to guide any team he was on into the digital age of sports journalism. The two now reconnect to cover the highs and lows of being a Texas State sports fan, which isn't always easy. #Eatemup
SQUARIN' AROUND: The Comeback Kid Ft. Lincoln Pare
Andrew and Jakob are joined by Bobcat running back Lincoln Pare who has battled this offseason to rejoin the team after an ACL injury kept him on the sidelines last year. We're talking about his road to recovery and the Bobcats' success!

Our first reaction podcast question mark? Things are not pretty right now in Bobcatland. 'Cats now sit at 4-4, hopes of a CFP berth or a conference title all but dead. G.J. and his band of merry men will have to come together quickly to salvage the last four games of the season and keep a very excited and now let-down fan base at bay.

Dawg, please do not ask us about last weekend. Either about the team or personally. Jakob drops big money on this episode all in the name of the NIL collective while Zimmel gets to take a victory lap for predicting that ODU would in fact wake up for last week's match-up. Yuck yuck jokes aside, we got a bye week to turn things around. Let's do something, Bobkitties! Win one for us if not yoursel...

Just a few years ago, honestly, even before last year, you could realistically make the argument that Texas State had no real rivals in the Sun Belt or otherwise across the college football landscape. Enter one of our most storied rivals, the Sam Houston State Bearkats, now in their second year at the FBS level, coached by a man who may have well been on a short list to coach the Bobcats, throw...

SCOTT!
.
McCloud can’t throw the long ball and can barely run had to change the offense to fit his play style and it isn’t working
Hard to build culture with transfers.. they are transfers for a reason when it gets tough they give up
Let’s go boys
I love Prime's comments on recruiting. KC Keeler will retire at SHSU IMO, he's already 60+ (although looks great for his age). I know you guys don't like history of bobcat football, but there's a really long list of people that applied for the HC position and didn't get hired who then went on to great careers.
let's goooo new episode
That UIW team had Cam Ward FYI.
For the algo #EatEmUp
Should of put Texas State in Title views have been up on anything with Texas state Utsa or Arizona State in Title
Great title fellas! 😂
Taking in the last minute takes, boys. Eat em up!
TXST NIL 😎
Beautiful women of TXST then we got these UTSA tortas coming to ruin our food lines
That was a fun podcast! Keep up the good work! IMO, anything less than 9-3 would be a disappointment. on second though 8-4 would work provided we made it to the conference championship.
Love how transparent Don is about what’s going on at Txst
I’m in the 1% doing more lol.
You know what's funny is that ULM game was the one when the players got into it with the student section.. ulm player chucked a water bottle into the crowd and the students responded by pelting their sideline with garbage.
“Fighting with people about mobile quarterbacks” lol
TXST 13-0
That anonymous poll yall mentioned was simply takes from SBC fans on the SBC forum. Also pretty sure that the higher seed hosts the playoff games so there shouldn't be anything stopping us from hosting if somehow we were able to get a top 8 seed. I mean our stadium holds 30k and we've sold that thing out and the town has been just fine. Obviously a bit of a pipe dream there though
I’ll be streaming a TXST dynasty
The most frustrating part of the stadium fiasco on the CFB game is that they got it 99% right on the last game. They had the "home" side on the wrong side though last go around. It might not be a big deal to recruits overall but I'd hate for people's perception of our stadium to be that half stadium when it obviously isn't that. Idk, maybe some recruits could get turned off by it. Maybe they get some interest from GJ and then decide to boot up the game and think "ehh, I aint tryna play in that tiny stadium". Maybe its a complete non issue? We'll see
Havent got to listen to the whole episode yet but I think Tarleton the last decade would be a very fitting comparison to TXST in the early 80s. They didnt have the on the field success that we did but they too got rejected by the Southland multiple times when trying to move up. Luckily for them the WAC was desperate so they got the invite. The funny part is that their fans were so butthurt over all the rejection that ever since they've joined they've constantly talked shit about the SLC and how Tarleton is too good for them now but now that the WAC is falling apart they might once again be left out in the cold by the SLC lol.
I'm impressed that he knew about the Arkansas State deal and many more details that I didn't know about. For many years after we joined the Sunbelt, ASU still complained about the travel. They see themselves as a Southern team and they see us as more Southwestern in nature. IMO, the biggest thing to learn about this 40-something year journey in Division I is that TXST's athletic history is all about building nice facilities, but under budgeting the sports themselves. Hopefully that's changed.
Boise taking all our people or what
Agreed with not wanting to see other instate schools have success. Imagine we make the CFP and no one notices because UT makes it too? Nope. Give us the spotlight if we can earn it.
Thanks for siding with me, Zim. I'm far from a hater. I'm one of your first subscribers, watch just about every show, and leave a like and comment to help your algorithm. There was a popular ESPN show, "Pardon the Interruption," where the hosts at the end of the show would bring in a fact checker to tell them what they got right and what they got wrong. Iron sharpens iron.
Those investigative skills are top-notch, Jakob. Love all the retro talk too, great stuff, but as always, I'm going to hit you up on facts. Jordan McCloud is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year (3,647 yards passing, 43 total TDs & 10 INTs). He didn't play in the American Athletic Conference nor did he play in the state of Texas last year, so he wouldn't be listed on DCTF's end of the 2023 season rankings. He will 100% be the starter next year and RJ the backup. The starting center is between Chayse Todd, the University of Houston transfer who was the primary backup and played a decent amount last year, and Dorion Strawn.
Love the pod yall but how do yall get so much stuff wrong? Glad yall figured out the Haydel and Spav thing out but it felt like watching a kid struggle to work through a simple math problem. Eric Morris coached a Cam Ward led UIW against us in 2021. Not GJ. GJ replaced Morris at UIW in 2022. Other than that I enjoy yalls stories, banter, and crazy takes. Keep it up my dudes.
You guys are great, and we fans are lucky to have you. I'm still going to give you crap, though. Loose facts: 1. McCloud is conservative; he is quite the opposite. 2. We lost our ability to take the top off with Hawkins' transfer, as stats show otherwise. This is not a criticism of Hawkins, but rather a defense of our current players using facts. Thanks for being good sports.
No it was for sale in Walmart not on anybody
Your podcast was a little loose with the facts, so I wanted to chime in. The three longest receptions last year were made by Joey (83 yards), Kole (77 yards), and Mahdi (89 yards). Ashtyn had the fourth-longest reception at 48 yards. We didn't lose our game breakers. Additionally, McCloud was absolutely known for his deep passing ability at JMU. He threw the third-most balls over 20+ yards and had the highest completion percentage on those deep throws in the SBC. Lastly, this is not immobile ruclips.net/user/shortsgCpR9kg6_F4?si=tIqkvF6IKcz0uzXf . Finley wasn't a dual-threat quarterback, but he had 5 rushing touchdowns, 2 big ones (16 and 12 yards) against Georgia State to clinch a bowl berth. 6'6" is tall, but little help when the goal line is 60 to 70 feet away. Remember, a quarterback takes a snap 5 to 7 yards deep in today's game.
Saw a ulm shirt in Plano TX at Walmart
1. JMU and ODU are public schools. 2. JMUs stadium is like only half of a stadium and it really isn't that great. 3. 5 years ago I'd say we had the best stadium in the SBC, but USAs new one is really sharp, ODUs is great, stAte has really stepped theirs up, and Louisiana is about to have a brand new one. Ours is still better than most though.
Justice for parody accounts
Will always be two of my favorite TXST athletes of all-time. Could write a book about their talent and impact on our university. Jessica has swag.
Love Thad even though we’ve had some disagreements on twitter about TXST basketball
Ashtyn was statistically the 3rd best receiver behind Joey and Kole last year and probably struggles to find the field at Baylor because they have more talent. Beau Corrales has a chance as a UDFA. Really impressed at Drake Maye's pro day. ruclips.net/video/ioZB1zOachs/видео.htmlsi=PuD7OK9ihn7wvNn_

#MarchMadness Bound or else!!!!
kinne said he did his homework on the guy. Nobody knows all the facts… disagree with kicking this young man out of school.
Over 4,800 people signed the petition I started. Over 3,500 in the last 24 hours. President Damphousse, Coach Kinne and others were bombarded with emails saying that we didn't want him to be the representative of Texas State University. #femalesAreMoreImportantThanFootball
There are some in our community that wanted us to look “past” his SA because we’re trying to build a winner and bigger programs would have done it but I’m seeing supporters from Arizona and Washington State giving us props for doing what they didn’t. That makes me proud to stand on integrity even if we’d REALLY like to win.
Now all the excitement about next year is lost with this new shi**y person of a transfer.....I WILL NOT WATCH next season if he's still on the team!
Dude.. I was freezing on the sidelines. I had chapped lips for two weeks after the bowl game. 😂
Congratulations on 1 year. Keep it going!
What do you think of the NCAA proposing a different tier to the division 1 schools?
Congrats on making it a year. I wish I could make it to that meet and great/bowl game but sadly am gonna be stuck up here in Minnesota for the year. Keep making great content, here’s to another year!
If you guys were to pick one person to name Bobcat Stadium after who would you pick?
