We packed up our newly developed mobile test rig and took it to Silverstone for the first round of Bennetts British Superbikes 2022. Many customers coming in past with their helmets to get tested. This was the first time we've taken our test instruments out of the lab and into a challenging environment, but we were delighted everything worked beautifully.

Quite frankly, none of us know for sure if used helmets are a safe purchase, so we're experimenting with a few that we've bought off eBay, and we're putting them to the test. Important note: we do not, and never will endorse or support the purchase of used helmets for active use.

You forgot the biggest recommendation for pinlocks: don’t touch them. Don’t breathe on them, don’t even look at them. If you want to try the tip in this video, just be sure to be EXTREMELY careful and grasp by the edges.

After the soapy bath do you rinse the soap out?
That's a good point, Jeff. The Baby Bath detergent is so mild, by the time I've finished it doesn't need a clean water rinse. It wouldn't harm to do this, however. Personally, though, I don't bother.
This is ingenious, will defo give it a try as mins is just starting to fail in one corner...
The pinlock fixings on the visor can also be adjusted if the seal is failing in just one location.
@@helmetinspection have already tried tweaking them for a tighter seal but there's one area on the bottom left that just doesn't wanna seal properly

A frivolous test procedure. It's worth nothing. They scold brands like Shoei, Schubert. Many new types are not being tested because they cannot buy new helmets. Ridiculous. "Nigel Mills of the University of Birmingham criticised the SHARP scheme in a paper in 2009, examining its testing of rotational acceleration,[4] despite SHARP using the test procedures specified in British Standards BS 6658, and also the United Nations World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations ECE Regulation 22. The UK's Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) delivered a detailed response addressing the Nigel Mills paper in November 2009.[5] SHARP stress that irrespective of their own ratings, all helmets sold in the UK have been certified to comply with the relevant legal standard, namely ECE R22.[6] However, it also points out that there is a 70% difference in protection between a SHARP one star rating compared to their five star rating.[3] SHARP has been given two prestigious road safety awards; the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award (2013, Motorcycle category)[7] in recognition of its outstanding contribution to improving road safety, and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) annual Road Safety Award recognising achievements in helping motorcyclists.[8] Some retailers of motorcycle helmets use SHARP star ratings as a selection criterion.[9]"
In the Philippines they don't have tests like these. If you're a manufacturer you just say you comply with ece or dot standards, pay a liscencing fee, an they stick an ugly holographic sticker at the back. Then the dirty traffic cops come and see if you have the stupid sticker in your helmet. If not you pay a fine. It's all about money.
All DOT "compliance" is the honor system. DOT is useless even here in the states
