Lisa Morales - Great Day Houston Interview - October 2018
Thank you sooooooo much! Had an expensive mat board arrive damaged but needed to send it out quickly as a gift. Worked great!!! Saved me! 😁😁
Awesome!! Glad it worked out.
Where are your papers from?
I use papers from all different sources but most are book pages, sheet music, and maps that people have given me or that I pick up at book sales. My library has a $1.00 book sale a few times a year. Thanks for your comment.
Great! Thank you 🌈
That’s super cute! Thank you😊 new sub💕
This is amazing!
Now you tell me, after I already did it wrong 😂
Thank you!
Very, very helpful.
I experienced something similar and thought the mat board was just lost... Until now! You have given me hope for the damaged mat board I own ☺ Thank you so much for sharing this awesome tip! ❤
You are very welcome. I hope it works for you!
It did! Thank you again! ☺@@LisaMoralesMixedMedia
I have a print that came folded and there are crease marks; they are not sharp creases but they are there. Will these go away when I stretch them, or do I needed to do something about them before-hand?
You can flip it over and iron it with a cool iron to take out the creases. Place it on a towel and test a corner first before you iron the entire print. I hope that helps.
@@LisaMoralesMixedMedia - Thank you, and thank you for this video!! My project came out, I think, acceptable for a first try. My mother-in-law moved into a facility and she and my wife started picking out wall treatments. She's on a budget (she's 90) so they went the "nicest, cheapest things available" route. In this case ordered what they thought was a canvas wall-hanging but what turned out to be just a folded-up canvas. My wife was crestfallen. She was going to send it back when I opened my big mouth and said "Let's see how much it costs to get it framed before you do that." So I went to the frame shop near our house and a $200+ estimate later, came back home and started looking for DIY options. I found a place onine to order stretcher bars and I found your video put it all together today. The corner folds are on random sides and I'm not convined this thing will hold up in the long run; it probably could have been streched better. But it's done and like I said, looks acceptible. I do have to say that my first thought when I finished it and flipped it over was "That's nice; she'll like this ... I'm so glad I'll NEVER have to do this AGAIN!!" 🤣. I'm sure I could get better at this over time; but it's just not something I want to invest the amount of time it would take for that. I have all the respect in the world for how easy you make this look!! And while I still would never pay someone two bills to do this, I certainly understand someone asking that kind of dough to do it for me!! Again, thank you for the video; I would have completely botched this without it!!
Great video. Thank you so much for the tips on how to lay out the papers. Can's wait to try it out.
@LisaMoralesMixedMedia This is great! Is there another medium that can be used other than the soft gel. I know art is expensive, but I'm trying to work on a budget and would like to attempt this technique.
This is so original! Very interesting technique. Thanks for showing us Lisa.
I’ve had 12 of these plates for years and tried using them on the gel plate and was not happy with the results. I love your technique! Your super-duper cleanup system is fantastic. Will definitely get a set-up for myself. TFS 👏🏽💜
Love your work😍Do you have to use acid free paper?
Thanks so much for sharing your process! That looks like a great way to make backgrounds. 💞
This is a brilliant idea!
Loved your art ❤
Thank you! Great info...
Thank you for the great info on lightfast materials. Do you not worry about the acid content in your papers?
Thank you so much for this tip!!
New to your channel, but so glad to find you! Great information and your work is so inspiring. Thank you
Nice!
Do you use magazines for your paper.
I paint my own papers, usually on sheet music or book pages but you could use magazines if that is what you have handy! Happy Creating and thanks for watching.
Thank you , will this work on mat board stencils ?
This is wonderful information! I’m not a great “draw-ER” but have photos I’ve taken that I could, essentially, “trace” from my original. Thank you.
Great technique! Can’t wait to try this! Thank you for all your videos.
Hi Lynn. Thanks for watching and for your sweet comment.
Your work is so beautiful. wow!
Thank you, Mary. I appreciate it.
That is so beautiful!
Hi Mary. Thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comment.
Does covering your finished cheap paint art with a professional glaze help with color fading?
Hi Kymberly - I'm not an expert on cheap paint but my best guess is that an archival sealer would help with the color fading. Of course, as always, keeping it out of indirect light should also prolong the lifespan of the piece.
What's great about acrylic paint is that you can paint right over it if you don't like it! Take the planning and technicality out of the process and just paint!
Good advice. Thanks for watching.
What a great thing to share. It will be fun to make a few and have them handy for gifting. Thank you!
You're welcome and happy creating!
Wow! Excellent idea! Thanks a lot.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and happy creating!
new subscriber here! what do you mean when you say you "textured" the paper? is it layering paint or are you adding another medium?
It is paint only. A better word might be "patterned".
This is absolutely brilliant!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Your artwork is amazing!!
Thank you so much Katie. I'm so happy you like it.
I spray a fine mist of water on both sides of the paper Before I start glueing it down. It let's the paper expand and settle.
Good advice.
Can you paint the mats? I bought a package of 10 for $1.50 at a thrift store
I often use glossy heavy book pages for backgrounds. Would this method work for those as well?
Hi there. I'm pretty sure it would but the best way to tell is to give it go and see what happens.
THANK YOU!! I have been looking for something to help me begin to understand mixing colors! This blows my mind-especially adding black. I am going to Amazon now.
Ha Ha!! Color mixing always amazes me too! Glad you are ready to try it yourself :)
I could watch this all day! I’m fascinated! Thank you for explaining each step so thoroughly. It’s incredibly helpful!
Yay!! Happy to help and thanks for watching.
Thank you for the butterfly printables, they are gorgeous 😊
Very pretty! Thank you for the printable and the ideas.
Brilliant! Just the answer needed that been puzzling on!!
Just discovered your art, and I love it. I watched tye video of the bird on plastic method. What adhesive do you suggest for the bird to the board? Your work is so beautiful and inspiring. Thanks.
Hi Lance and thanks so much. I use the same adhesive for everything. it is Golden soft gel. I used it to put the bird together and I used it to adhere the bird to the board. I like toi use the gloss gel and then I sealit with a satin sealer (also Golden brand).
You have really taken this medium to a new level, beautiful work! I can't wait to try it. All of your work is so vibrant! I have one of your prints of a seahorse and it is just gorgeous.
Hi Diane and thanks so much. I appreciate you watching and your nice comments.
Never knew incense sticks can do that. Great effect cause it looks so organic. Thanks.
Love it. Thanks.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching :)
I have the same rubbing plates & use them on my gel plate too besides using them directly on paper. I don’t know what type of paint you used but if it’s acrylic paint, I’m afraid of washing the plates, stencils, sponges & water for brushes in the sink. I read that it will clog the drain. I wash that type of paint in a big dish pan. When I’m done then I dilute the paint with water & pour it into the toilet while it’s being flushed. Then flush it again 1 or 2 more times to make sure it’s gone. If I use washable paints, I don’t worry too much. Hubby tosses his paint outside in the sewer drain & adds water to dilute if. I still dilute the washable paint before it goes down the drain. I really love the rubbing plates & enjoyed your video. Am going to watch your other videos. Thanks. Tere
Hi Tere. Than ks so much for watching and for your comment. I can tell you love paper by your profile name!! Paper lovers unite!
