Hardys Scale Models
Великобритания
Добавлен 9 дек 2011
Hi I'm Dave and I'm Hardy's Scale Models!
I started modelling aircraft when I was a kid and got seriously into it when I was an Air Cadet here in the UK.
I left the hobby completely after school and got back into it, after almost 30 years, just before COVID hit in 2020.
Once I felt a little more confident, I started this channel to share the kits I've built, techniques and tools I've used and other channels I've used for advice.
If you would like to find out more about my channel, please see the links below.
You can also support the channel more directly if you wish, using my new Patreon page! You can pick one of my two monthly donation tiers or join as a free member. None of my videos will ever be pay per view.

IN BOX REVIEW - Das Werk 1/35 scale 8t Zgkrwg. Sd.Kfz 7 || How GOOD is this kit?
Thanks for visiting my channel.
This is my in box review of the Das Wert 1/35 scale 8t towing wagon, as used by the Germans in WWII. It was mainly used for towing artillery pieces and I will eventually be making a diorama of this and the Tamiya 88mm Gun Flak36/37.

Even in 72 scale, this bomber is HUGE. Seen the real thing up close and personal. It is enormous.
Yeah I would love to see one for real. Amazing aircraft.
Dragon did two version of the Sdkfz 7...early version and 1943 later version. Any ideas which one it is if Das Werke have purchased the moulds ?
@@MichaelKennedy-tr1xc I’m really not sure to be honest but I can certainly trying and find out.
@hardysscalemodels It's the 1943 version I've found out. I was hoping it was the earlier version as I have already made a Tamiya 88 with a field grey paint scheme and I would have matched the two if that had been the case. The German Army changed its base colour from field gray to desert yellow in 1942 for all vehicles so I'll have to look for the Dragon early production version or maybe Trumpeter to keep it accurate for a field grey paintscheme. Thanks for the video.. 🙂👍
@@MichaelKennedy-tr1xc ah ok. Thanks for the info update mate. Appreciate that. I’m new to armour building so my knowledge is limited. Nice one.
@@MichaelKennedy-tr1xc From the photos & vids I have seen, it was quite common to see a mix of dunkelgrau equipment & dunkelgelb equipment in the same unit, as well as dunkelgrau equipment sprayed with dunkelgelb camouflage in stripes/spots. It really depended on when sufficient quantities of dunkelgelb became available at each factory, at the repair depots & on the front lines. Also, as was usually the case with every asset, SS units tended to be the first to get the latest & greatest stuff (e.g. new vehicles, new weapons, new paints, etc..), while the Wehrmacht had to make do with what it had. And...to complicate matters, quite frequently, both Axis & Allied units on the front lines would often smear mud on their vehicles as a form of "camouflage". In fact, because the first shipments of German equipment to North Africa were painted in dunkelgrau, units in the Afrika Korps immediately set about mixing the local sand/soil with water & painting the mixture on their armour, artillery shields, trucks, etc.. When the U.S. landed troops in North Africa, their units did the same to break up the solid olive drab colour. In some wartime photos, it is difficult to tell if Allied & Axis equipment used paint or mud as a main colour or a secondary/camo colour. Also, during winter, the whitewash used by all armies to camouflage their equipment was easily worn off by crews walking on/handling them, or partially washed off by rain...so during the winter & early spring, most vehicles were white with a lot of blotches of the base colour & perhaps camo colours showing through. Last, but not least...just to complicate things further....as the end of the war approached, when German industry was being destroyed in air raids or overrun by advancing Soviet & western Allied units, the supply of dunkelgelb paint became scarce. Consequently, German equipment had to be painted in a base colour of dunkelgrau, or dunkelgrun, or feldgrau, or even just red oxide primer...and the camo colours that were applied would have been dunkelgrau, dunkelbraun, or any other colour that could be found. So, back to your kits...therefore, a combo of an artillery piece in dunkelgrau (perhaps with dunkelgrau camo) & a half-track in dunkelgelb would not be out of the question during 1942 & 1943.
@derekbaker3279 wow! Thanks for the information mate!

Hi. I have been making models for over 40 years so I have built many models. I started with aircraft , in a big way. I then went into 1/35th armour as well. Now I focus on small scale armour. I built the Puma , a nice kit. I have also built the King Tiger , another good kit. I might suggest that you look towards battles between the Germans and Russians on the approach towards Berlin. Places like Seelow Heights , also the battles around the Lake Balaton area or in other areas in Czechslovakia. This is where the T34 and King Tiger would have gone head to head. Good luck with your builds. Regards.

Nice build I’m trying to get into the hobby, what type of resources did you need and how much did it cost?
@@andrewtang3108 thank you! I guess it’s like any hobby, you can spend a lot, or spend a lot less. Buying second hand kits online can save you money, as can just buying the essentials you need. For instance a knife, sanding sticks, nippers and brushes. But the kit I have has built up over time, I only buy new kit when I need to upgrade/replace. Hope this helps.
@ thanks hope I can get into the hobby soon, if you have any specific suggestions for paints for this build please let me know
@@andrewtang3108 I tend to use Tamiya acrylics. Easy to find, decent quality and not expensive.
Just got my hands on a similar kit, was wondering if you have a list of paints you used
@ hi. Mainly Tamiya acrylics, but the main grey colour I used was Mr Hobby Aqueous H51, Light Gull Grey.
all looking good! as regards building different genres of kits, I take the view that modelling basics can be applied to most types of kit, and I personally am a very eclectic builder ( I have on the go at the minute an airfix B17 old tool, an airfix Roland WW1 German two seater, I've just finished an airfix 1/32 MGB car kit, and will be carrying on with an airfix vintage classic HMS Hood with a photo etch set) that list is airfix heavy, I admit, but I do have stuff by other manufacturers, honest!
@@philsmodelmaking2260 yeah I think I’m definitely going to broaden the range of stuff I build, instead of just aircraft. Thanks mate.
