Unforgettable Outdoor Fun at GIG Day2 Vlog: Join the Adventure!
I really want an NXWing. Nice set up.
One thing I didn’t like was that the faders don’t have memory when you change pages, they don’t adjust to match the settings on the new page. Then again, I’m not sure if that’s standard for lighting consoles! I need to learn more about lights, they make such a huge difference in the show. I can't seem to find any good videos on best practices on creating great light shows though.
This is why you always bring back up gear. I had a soundcraft ui24 and gave it away because of different problems.
Redundancy is always a good idea if the budget allows.
Very cool, thanks for sharing this! I am trying to achieve something very similar for my band - I opted for the LivePrompter App, as it is not as bloated with features as BandHelper - that was too overwhelming for me. Also, LivePrompter has a nice auto-scroll feature, using timestamps or a combination of tempo and number of bars. Do you know if BandHelper can do autoscrolling (except via MIDI), or do you always scroll via footswitch?
guess it was a 48/50 point inspection.
Another Ui24r packing in. Fantastic mixer, such a great interface, but so unreliable. The amount of reported dropouts etc during gigs would completely turn you away from it. I myself had one and used it for a few months, loved it but returned it within the return time because of all the problems people were reporting. Moved to the CQ-18T and it's been brilliant. Also got the CQ20B, great too.
wasn’t aware there were so many issues with it. It has some great features, but at the end of the day, reliability is what matters most.
you should set your camera and upload these videos at 60fps
I’ve gone back and forth on this. I like the clarity of 60fps, but it feels less movie-like and almost too clear sometimes. It’s a tough call balancing the cinematic look with the crispness of 60fps!
Cool vid. I would have ran a wireless speaker in that tent.
That's a great idea! They didn't have any extra gear on hand, but I'll definitely add that to my bag of tricks.
Over-under, from the female end of an XLR cable. That way, the cable wraps the same way every time and the slack ends-up at the input side as it’s unwraped.
I’ve never thought about making sure there’s a designated starting end. I’ll give it a try!
Is that a beyer m88 for your kick drum? love that thing for kick.
I doubt it, she said it was a cheaper set.
That RCF system is really good..... great mixing Bro...
Great stuff. Love seeing setup and load in cheers 🍻
Thanks! I enjoy watching others set up too. it’s a great way to pick up tips and find tools or techniques to improve efficiency.
Sad to see that the Swiped Right band is now on hiatus. The music business never stops.
This year has been tough with so many great bands taking breaks. Hopefully, they’ll find their way back to the stage soon!
9:59 bath or toilet only?
ChatGPT Being from the Midwest, I called it a bathroom, but really, it was just a toilet. 😁
Just purchased a guitar from Sweetwater with Plek. Hope I don't run into similar issues. I want it perfect out of the box. I just want to play the guitar and not become a luthier.
That's the idea of it. I really do hope you get a great guitar!
4:06 and how do you work with such clipping? Also, I wanted to ask if 12P version is enough for cover-bands?
I've only had a speaker shut down a couple of times, and that was during a much larger gig. Since then, I haven't had any issues. Someone suggested it might have been caused by a power problem.
I bought some self retracting straps because of Silver Creek too. Guy is full of good ideas.
They are super handy. I no longer hate using straps!
What foot switch did you use?
We used an Airturn. It was built nice, but kind of a paint to sync.
For anyone wondering.... on the CDL12p / 10p, "Clip"is input clipping aka your sound board is sending too hot, "Limit" means the CDL's amp is saturated, the output voltage is approaching the amp's supply rail voltage. We can take a lesson from the QSC Touchmix user manual here. I know there is this rule of thumb in the sound community that powered speakers should be set to "zero", but unfortunately "zero" is not a standard across brands, or even different models from the same brand. Deep in the QSC Touchmix manual (or in the built in help pages of the mixer), they tell you to set QSC KW series speakers to FIVE clicks past ZERO. More or less +5 if it was a DSP with a digital display. KWs are a bit "cold" on their inputs, so rather than clipping your board trying to drive them, you crank up the KWs. CDL's are exactly the same... a bit cold on their inputs, so crank 'em up past zero. No harm done, as long as you don't see the CDL's LIMIT light coming on. CDLs ask 8x or 6x 2" cone drivers to handle from 20kHz down to 420Hz. That's a lot of work for a driver of that size. By comparison, the horn loaded compression drivers in most point source top boxes cross over around 2.5kHz, which means you can a lot more dB SPL out of them since their titanium or Mylar diaphragms barely have to move at all to scream at those frequencies. I stick with my QSC's for hard rock & metal. For everything else, there's CDL...!!!
Most likely a network hang. Needed to use external WAP and disable the internal WAP.
so what was wrong with the mixer?
He never figured it out. He decided to junk it and bought a different brand.
Hi Dave Woow amazing really i love USA and sweetwater rock camp ❤❤😊😊⚡⚡⚡🤟🌟🤘🤟⚡⚡🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️🎸🎸⭐🇺🇸🇺🇸I hope this 2024 my dreams it comes true in rock camp sweetwater and find a girl in USA with blonde hair its my dream ❤❤❤😊😊😊
What size ipad do you use ?
I used 12.5", but they get heavy. Most of the time I use the base model 10" now.
Can I use my iPhone if I don’t have an iPad?
I haven’t tested it myself, but it should work. The BandHelper app on the iPhone has all the settings needed to control an external monitor.
@ Thank you so much for the reply 🙏🏽
Hey Dustin, this was my first visit to your channel... I thought your review, comparison and overall discussion was really great and quite candid. I enjoyed it. I've been thinking about getting one of the EART Guitars and your experience was insightful... Thanks for this one and stay blessed!
Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words.
Hi . Which is the best powered speakers 15 inch for live band setup without subs for 150 to 200 people ?
"Best" can be pretty subjective. For budget options, I’d go with a Electrovoice ZLX. If you have a bit more to spend, RCF, QSC, and JBL are the most common brands I see.
@ how is mackie Thump215 or Yamaha Dbr15?
what's considered a smaller band
Got any vids of you using your set up live in front of an audience? Love to see it. Thanks
No unfortunately, not right off hand. I'll dig through footage to see if I can find any!
Hi Dustin i love your channel its amazing really , i love the fractal fm3 i love USA and Nashville 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎸🌟🌟❤️❤️🌟🎸🇺🇸⭐⭐Finally this december im coming in Nashville with my dad im so happy really i cant wait im coming at Tootsie’s bar at the auditions ❤🎸🎸🎸🤘🤟🤟🤟🎸🎸🎸🇺🇸🇺🇸⭐😊😊
i don't get it, why can't they make a freaking bag for it...
See a need, fill a need. Seems logical to me too.
Wow, just looking at all that stuff gives me anxiety. Way too many things to keep track of.
Thankfully I didn't do the job alone! It is a whole other layer when I have to keep that many musicians happy and make sure it sounds good to the crowd.
Always using my clean booster just for leads, without getting nuts cracking the volumen knob haha just a little, we're a power trío
Hi Dave my name is mahdi and im 23 years old im a guitarist and i live in italy im a special guy i take my medicine every day but i never give up on my dreams i love Nashville i love USA ❤❤❤😊😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤟🎸🤘🤘🎸🤟🇺🇸🇺🇸🌟🌟🇺🇸🤟🤟🎸🤟🎸You are an amazing artist really i love the fractal fm3 like you 😊😊im coming in Nashville with my dad this december finally im so happy really ❤❤❤😊😊i cant wait 🌟🤘🤘🤘🤟🤟🎸🤘🤘🎸🎸😊😊😊
Call me crazy (I've been called much worse!) but I JUST bought the FM3 AND the VP4. I realize the VP4 wasn't out when this video came out. Here's my reasoning... If I just wanna go jam with some buddies, the FM3 is enough and it's very portable. For gigs with my band, I'll use both together: drives, amps and cabs on the FM3, all time-based effects on the VP4. Linked by MIDI for control and SPDIF for no-latency audio connection. I like the modular approach.
In the UK, pubs and clubs are closing down at an alarming rate. Many long time music venues have closed. Those that remain are now cutting their costs. Why hire a band when you can have a solo or duo act at far less cost? Venues also go with the tried and trusted. Acts that they know have a following, making it nigh on impossible for new bands to play. But less are going out to see live bands. It's sad and disheartening. The cost of day to day living is stopping leisure entertainment. That and the dross that is now forced on us through pay TV.
I just did sound for a band, and they were really solid. But when I played some dance music during the break, the floor was packed! I love live music, but if I were a bar owner and saw that, I'd probably start booking DJs.
Man, I was dead set on the QC. Now I’m sold on the FM9
They are both great for their own reasons. I like the tone of the FM3 more, but that QC is so easy to use.
I received the firefly madcat tele....alot of fret "sizzle" even when the neck was adjusted to flat....no un-levelled frets when I checked with stewmac rocker? Just had to raise the bridge the lower strings 4-6 to 2.0 on my action gauge from music nomad....not as pleased as I was with my donner dst 400 much better than this...like you no response from firefly..it's a budget guitar with great wood and looks but budget action which I will learn how to do adjustments 😂🎉 still... not the reputation I heard of
Great job man, multiple amps on stage had to be difficult.
...made in Mexico.....
Eart arent even close to fender. The eart pick ups are shit.
Nice rig, and clever fix on the D6 clip! I have a sneaking suspicion that the "clipping" you're referring to in the CDLs is actually a full power cycle of the box (or protect mode) being caused by low voltage. I'm willing to bet that the outlets you have the PA plugged into are either very far from the breaker panel, or they have long extension cords plugged into them to get power to the stage (or a combination of the two). Long power runs will meter just fine without a load, but once a load (in this case, speaker at high volume) is applied, the voltage will sag and cause the speaker to shut down/mute its output. You can confirm this by metering the voltage while a speaker is on and at high volume. You could also use a circuit analyzer that will measure the impedance of the conductors to predict the voltage drop at various load levels - I have an Ideal 61-164 analyzer, but Klein recently released one that appears to be more affordable (RT390). If that turns out to be the issue, lower gauge extension cords (10AWG) will help you avoid the voltage drop, or sourcing different power from the venue may be a solution as well. I have a 50a distribution box I bring to some shows, and I've had some venues install a 50a/250v receptacle. Even if I don't need a full 100a at 120v, my cabling for the distro is 6AWG, which is able to tolerate the 20-40a required by my full system over a greater distance without worrying about the same sort of ill effects voltage drop would bring with even a 10AWG cord of the same distance.
Wow, I hadn't even considered it could be a power issue. Thanks so much for the detailed response, I really appreciate it. I'll definitely look into that!
I had a venue owner throw me out 15-20ft of extension cord. What I didn't realize was that behind the door he had the remaining unused 80+ft of a 100ft extension cable rolled up. During sound check at regular concert volume I had the QSC KW152 connected to that extension shut down. I've literally never had a KW152 shut down before under any circumstances. I power cycled it and continued on. At the beginning of the show, same thing happened. At break, I managed to get into that area, and when I saw the ridiculous roll of cable, I was like grrrrr, ran & got my own 25ft heavy gauge cable and everything was just peachy for the rest of the night. Don't under estimate voltage drop on long extension cables. Most class D amps with DSP's, even older ones like the K / KW series have under voltage protection, such that the amp shuts down when the line voltage gets too close to the power supply's rail voltage. Also, can you be specific... the Presonus CDL "Clip" light is input clipping. Only the "Limit" LED indicates the actual status of the amp itself. If "Clip" is on, your board is sending too hot. If LIMIT is on, then you are indeed over driving the CDL's amp.
Do you think your two presonus cdl12p's could cover this same event? With the other subs you have?
I've used my CDL speakers and 4 QSCs at that venue before. While I couldn't match the output power of the RCF system, my rig still sounded great in that space.
@@DustinRadtke Thanks, do you really need 4 subs for that setup?
Um, yeah. Why the fuck would you pay $300 extra dollars for something that isn't perfect from the factory. The nut should be cut correctly. The frets should be perfect. An instrument should come perfect from the factory. I realize that's not always the case. But I am not accepting anything other than perfect when I put $3,000 + on a new guitar. I am not paying $300 extra to have someone "fix" a brand new guitar that should be perfect. Industry standards from every manufacturer has fallen so low. Retailers should be demanding higher quality from the manufacturers. So they aren't shipping out shit to their customers. Granted I would never... NEVER purchase a guitar I haven't put my hands on first.
I wish there were more stores in my area that carried the gear I want. They might have the guitar I like, but not the color, or sometimes they don't even have it in stock, so I end up ordering online. At least the return policy has been easy. It's a hassle to drop it off, but at least I don't lose money.
Couple things of concern. The downstage truss only resting on one of the forks… Also, the line array are splayed to only truly cover about 60 feet away from The stage. Thirdly, that power distro pulls in two phases of 120v on two separate legs. There’s no transformer actually stepping down to 120v. Finally, those lifts are not kosher for lifting PA and trussing. They look like material lifts, not line array lifts…
Thanks for the feedback! I wasn’t responsible for the setup, but I’ll definitely pass your concerns along to the right people. What would you do differently?
@@DustinRadtke obtain the proper front loading lifts for line array/trussing. And the span of trussing should at least be resting on both forks each side.
Your monitor is 24 inch ? Thank you !
Yep, 24"
Thank you ! God bless you!
So instead of looking down at the iPad you're looking down at the wedge. FAIL.
Totally! If a singer just stares at it the whole time, it definitely loses its purpose. But with the larger screen, you can see it from farther away and just glance when needed. Plus, it's great because it doesn’t block the audience's view of you.
Thank you so much this helper me a lot!!!
Great video! Mixing in style👍
Thanks! I try to have fun with it.
Unfortunate that seems kind of unfortunate that this happened
Dude love your content, you need to invest in a bigger trailer. You can see mine in my videos. Were sending out our cdl12p boxes for events soon.
When I'm making Dream Entertainment money I'll upgrade! :) I'm not sure I could pull larger one with my Highlander, but a 6x10 would be nice.
Thank you for sharing. I need this solution for my crawl space lighting.
Wow, cool idea!
