It's amazing, hands down one of the best nonfiction books I've read this year. I read Orbital for my Booktube judge round earlier this year. What do you think of it?

@@toweringtbr I was immediately hooked, I wish I had been reading it both print and audio to get even more out of the prose, but I only had the audio and hold lines became even more long by the time I knew I would want it because of the award win. I'm pretty sure I recall you weren't a big fan? There definitely isn't much there if you aren't into the writing on its own.

@ReadBecca I liked it but it felt more like creative nonfiction. I felt it didn't represent fiction very well with no plot and flat characters but the ideas it brought up were very thought-provoking. Plus that tidbit about the USSR cosmonaught was fascinating and the fact that we currently have astronauts stranded in space, feels really timely.

@@toweringtbr Currently I'm working on a book for the Favorite Author prompt. It's called Paladin's Faith. It is the 4th book in The Saints of Steel series by T. Kingfisher. I love the banter in this series. Absolutely hysterical!

also my one goal for this year is to finish Van Gogh!!!! My Dad and I kept pushing it off b/c it was just so long but he recently finished so now I feel the pressure. I like it so far!

Welcome! I'm glad you're here. I'm sorry you also suffer from migraines. I use audiobooks a lot as an accommodation because my vision is fractured during an attack. Maybe if you aren't too sensitive to sound, you could listen to an audiobook. The House in the Cerulean sea is wonderful! (and the audiobook is great as well) Thanks.

I'm realizing that's important to me as a reader. There are definitely exceptions but I usually need someone to root for! Do you agree?

@@toweringtbr For sure! I always want someone to root for even if they are kind of terrible. Some books can be successful with unlikable characters but I still need some point of connection so that I care what happens

I listened to the first one on audio. I'm glad to hear they get better so I will definitely try book 2 and cut my losses if I don't like it. Thanks for your advice!

I knew almost nothing of residential schools before that book. I have Five Little Indians but know its a bummer and am waiting for the right headspace. I'll be keen to hear your thoughts if you get to it before me.

@toweringtbr on my list to own, so not likely soon. Yes absolutely need the right headspace for those stories. Not about residdential schools. But i did love The Firekeepers Daughter, a YA thriller. Looked at racisim Indeginous communities face. 💜📚

If I remember right you didn't like Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. If that's the case, Bobiverse might not be for you. Its a very similar tone and humor. I try to set realistic goals so that I have some hope of actually achieving them. :)

@toweringtbr Not read Project Hail Mary, I read the Martian and enjoyed, but did not plan to re-read so rehomed the book. I thought Dark Matter by Blake Crouch was "fine" but alternate universe was not a new concept and i was incensed that he was obssessed with his wife but barely mentioned his son. So did not blow my mind like it did other people and have 0 plans to read more by him. 💜📚
