S03E08 The 3rd Commandment: Blaspheming God's Name Goes Far Beyond Just Words
In this episode of Chorus in the Chaos, Blake and Jack continue their Ten Commandments series with an engaging discussion on the Third Commandment: 'You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.' Often reduced to avoiding profanity, this commandment carries profound implications about reverence, worship, and the weight of our words.
We dive into:
- The cultural normalization of phrases like 'OMG' and how they impact our reverence for God.
- Why professing faith without living it dishonors God's name.
- Examples of blasphemy include flippant speech, misuse of Scripture, and irreverent worship.
- Biblical wisdom from Exodus 20:7, Titus 1:16, and more.
- Practical ways to honor God's n...

    Also have you ever considered Jesus was and likely still is shorter than many people today. Kinda weird as I default to imagining looking up at Him, kinda like a child to a father. I don't think I'm alone as most images don't have him shorter than others.

  • @LifeInUganda2025
    @LifeInUganda2025 Месяц назад

    The glory of God is veiled always to us, as you mentioned, so falling ahort in representing all of God's glory is no issue. Baby Jesus looked differently then teenage Jesus and adult Jesus and transfiguration Jesus. He was a Jewish man who grew and changed. It is the character that is the issue not whether he was 5'8" or 4'6"-this has no bearing on His divine glory. I believe pictures can represent him as a man without that baggage (though some images necessarily imply characteristics on purpose that could misrepresent Him). Video portayals are more difficult because inflections and non verbal body language may communicate something inaccurate. And Jesus should never be saying things we dont have record of Him saying. I know you only have so much time and you've done an episode like this before but it would have been good to hear you touch on the spirit (as a dove) or descriptions of God in scripture (Rev 1 or Daniel 10) in which the writer is trying to use words in order for us to picture God as they saw Him physically in that moment.

    Why is your hypothesis better than those who believe this to be a truly consequential election. After all, you do have Russia at war-- ju sing thousands of North Korean troops, Israel at war with Iran, and China threatening to invade Taiwan...for starters...and most of the "action" is a result of a very weak and inconsistent foreign policy.

    How does a Christian vote in this election with a clear conscience? The answer is easy. Just think of Trump convicted with 34 FELONIES by committing adultery with a porn star = very unchristian-like. Just think of Trump trying to imitate Hitler by saying that immigrants are poising the blood of Americans = Very unchristian-like. Just think of Trump with his gross racism by degrading other God's children by eating dogs and cats = Very unchristian-like. Just think of Trump making a habit of violating women by grabbing their their privates = Very unchristian-like. So you go and pick the lesser of the two evils and pick Kamala Harris. You see, that's easy. I really can't see how a Christian can vote republican. I really can't.

    All nations are God's nation. We are citizens of the kingdom and living on earth. God is in the business of sanctifying and redeeming this world. We partake in his work by taking actions that best aligned with God's laws and character. That includes choosing a candidate who is lesser of two evil. Isn't it that simple? We may have to consider that part of our fallen state is also simply we can't help but sin but can't help but partake to some degree the work of sin manifested in our sociopolitical system with unbelievers.

    This is a good take. However, we must not blame it to believers who are desiring to be fed by expository preachings. There are scarcity of expository preaching in some places. The fall of a pastor is completely and entirely because they give in to temptation. There are still who are living in purity by the grace of God and I want to be focused on them rather than meditating fallen pastors. The Word of God remains true.

    World “Kosmos” in Greek is “universe, all”, and used in context means “everything”. You know John 3 defeats Calvinism because all you have to do is read verses 13-14 before it. “And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him.” ‭‭ Here Jesus is referencing himself as the serpent Moses lifted up. God told Moses to lift up the serpent, so that anyone who looked at it would be healed. In John, Jesus is the serpent so that anyone who believes is saved. God didn’t say “lift the serpent up so I can make my elect look at it”. John 3 as a chapter has no reason at all to support Calvinism in any sense.

    It’s better I feel not to discuss and publish in social media when a leader/pastor of any church commits sexual sins. Just don’t publish or discuss shut him up and wait for his repentance because we all are open to same sins. Better not to malign the name of Jesus with unbelievers.

    As I listen, I made a ref to 2 Peter 1:6 "to knowledge self control, you self control perseverence, to perseverence godliness". Knowledge puffs up...and must be tempered with self control. Without the ability to control ourselves, our knowledge of good, and the desire to do it, are both worthless. Self-control is the moment-by-moment restraint of our urges. This is the ability to make the right choice, in those moments when temptation strikes us.

    Anyone calling themselves "Pastor" is exposing their own phoniness and hunger for authority, not a true calling to serve. Jesus Himself warned against chasing after titles like "Rabbi" or "Father," yet some ignore His clear instruction to reject such labels in favor of humble servanthood (Matthew 23:8-10). These so-called "pastors" use a title to elevate themselves above others, seeking recognition and control instead of leading by example in Christ-like humility. If their leadership depended on the fruits of the Spirit and genuine service to the body of Christ, they wouldn't need a title to prove it. They're parading a false sense of authority, and it's an insult to the true worship of God in spirit and truth.
