    I need to know which model Ryobi brad nailer you are using. I need one. Plus, where did you get that gluer? Please, need that too! Love your feeder! Well done and great delivery of the technique! I don't use those. I throw food out on the ground for birds and let weeds grow that have seeds and berries but I could make those for others who manicure their property. How about making a bat house?

    • @RickSawDesigns

      That was a Ryobi 18 Gauge Brad Nailer. I usually get Ryobi products from Home Depot when they have a bundle sale. I use .5" to 1.25" brad nails for projects to help secure pieces until the glue dries and makes the permanent bond needed. The Gluebot (a.co/d/bmdXHd1) is found on Amazon among other places but sometimes I also simply use plain plastic ketchup bottles too as they are cheaper! Thanks for the questions - and watching my build video! Let me know how yours turns out!

    What kind of seed do you prefer to put in this? I think in a high humidity environment, you may want to put a lil side tilt to the bottle, maybe 5 degrees? Looks good though! Hope to have time to build one myself!

      It is probably at a 10% tilt but honestly that wasn't in my design plans - just a happy mistake. We have a lot of smaller birds around here so millet, black oil sunflower and other small grains seem popular.

    On quality. SS saws look pretty junky to me. Having come up through the General, and Inca range, and with general familiarity with the European safety standards, an build standards, SS looks like a typical offshore saw, and uses a basic design from the 30s. And costs about twice what it normally would to get that stuff. But that goes into the safety system.

    • @RickSawDesigns
      @RickSawDesigns 5 месяцев назад

      Interesting observation. Truthfully, I am not familiar with European makes at all, so I will see what others think on that one. Thanks for commenting and bringing this to my attention!

  • @HondoTrailside
    @HondoTrailside 5 месяцев назад

    The irony when people move up from small saws to the big SS saw is that there is a whole other world of pain with 3-5 HP saws as far as kickback is concerned. So while one may be safer on the fingers issue, particularly if it had been one's first rodeo, it now opens people up to the actually deadly threats. I would get an SS if I had employees. I know the truth about table saws, but it would be a looser if I ever had an employee, or other dependent, hurt on the saw, particularly if they had registered a complaint about the lack of an SS system. And all users should do that on day one. Keep your options open.

    • @RickSawDesigns
      @RickSawDesigns 5 месяцев назад

      The extra power and possible kickback power is definitely something to avoid! Proper technique and always keeping safety first has to be a priority.

    Even though I have nothing against the technology and the people wanting to buy it and use it, I do have something against the company for pushing legislation to make it mandatory for manufacturers to install similar tech in theirs. This while Sawstop also having fought for a long time to keep and defend their patents, making them basically the only manufacturer currently able to sell this tech. Yes, I know they recently offered their patent for free, but it will still cause prices to go up and less selection to be available to the buyer, and it would still place them as the #1 option out there, which is I'm sure the main reason they are doing it for. If it is something so awesome, why not let it sell itself instead of trying to force it down our throats. I appreciate the extra safety, but I don't need a nanny to tell me what I can or can't do with my saw or how I have to use it.

    • @RickSawDesigns
      @RickSawDesigns 5 месяцев назад

      You make some really good points here. As a woodworker some of the business/legislative stuff involved is disheartening for sure. For those who don't know about the debate/challenges with SawStop technology go ahead and tune into some videos from others to get the details. I think two folks I go to all the time - Stumpy Nubs (ruclips.net/video/nxKkuDduYLk/видео.html) and 731Wooodworks (ruclips.net/video/EZ6yGis38R4/видео.html) do a good job getting into it. I can see the business that developed the technology wanting to protect its patents because that is probably the most profitable way to move forward (although licensing it to other manufacturers might also work well too.) I can understand a legislative desire to have less people seriously injured (per NPR, the United States sees around 30k table saw injuries each year that require medical treatment) but if ALL manufacturers have to use this technology it will significantly increase prices for everyone. And it could even force workplaces use only new technology saws going forward too. From an individuals standpoint (like yours here) I can also see that you want to be able to make that choice for yourself too. Thanks for the comment lexugax.

To refill it, simply tilt it out of the two holders, refill using a funnel (or a rolled up paper plate in a pinch) and replace.

      Great idea with the Sharpie - there are always new and smarter ways to do things if you are open to them.

    • @BobBob-eh5sb
      @BobBob-eh5sb 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, either way, cutting the line or leaving the line is ok. I guess one question would be about the marks on the tape measure. Would you mark on the left side or the right side of it. They are probably around a 1/16”, so not much, but if you pick one side and use it to measure where the piece is going and use the same side to measure the piece, then all is good. And if using a roll up tape as opposed to a steel rule, it doesn’t hurt to check the hook on the end of the tape occasionally. The holes can wobble out in time and your outside measurement might not be quite the same as the inside measurement. And make sure the hook is pushed in or retracted when doing an inside measurement. Again it’s not going to be much, but if you’re looking for exact it might be enough. The main thing is to be consistent. Measure everything the same way, try to use the same measuring device for the entire project, and use the same marking tool whether it be a sharpie, mechanical pencil, marking knife or whatever.
