Fit bigger tyres with the ratel x spare wheel carrier
Просмотров 70421 день назад
With the new spare wheel arriving from back order it was time to change the wheel carrier for something a bit nicer. The bigger tyres meant that there was very little clearance on the bumper so an upgraded one from ratel-x industries fixed this. Great video well narrated and filmed showing the points of interest 👍👍👍👍🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🍺

Happy Birthday! Looking forward to your trip with the trailer (caravan). I wouldn't be too quick to swap out the engine. I really wish the diesel engines would have been available here in Canada but, alas, we are required to support the fuel companies with the terrible fuel mileage of the V8s. I don't care much about the power, I'm not in that much of a hurry anymore!. I've actually considered a diesel swap but my gasser is running fine so I just pay, (and pay, and pay. . .) lol
@@dieselgypsy1100 thank you. Haha yeah I do love the 300tdi I just wish it was a bit more powerful for towing. If I ever do swap it it won’t be for a while until I can afford to do it properly.
Really liked this Video! Lots of vids about extreme 4x4 trails and torture courses but not many at all about moderate off-roading like the old Discos are perfect for. (I have a 2000 Disco 2) And the added bonus of some lovely scenery and touring and camping! Really enjoyed! Please do some more like this!
@@dieselgypsy1100 thank you so much for this! I really needed a comment like this. I enjoy making these types of videos and will do my best to make more.
Happy Birthday Dan. The compressor is a bit small for an impact gun, but what you can do is plumb a fitting direct to the tank. Just make sure to put a bit of oil in the gun daily. To set the fuel pump timing with a dial indicator alone, tie a piece of rope onto the spanner for turning the crank and place it on the crank bolt facing down, then you can stand by the right side fender looking down at the dial gauge while pulling on the rope attached to the spanner to turn the motor over.
Thanks! That’s a great idea thanks. I know the compressor wouldn’t run a gun for long, to be honest I probably won’t use one for long
@@TheNorthernExplorer You can easily plumb in another tank to give you a bigger supply of air. It will give you more air in the short term but recovery will take longer. Also, for air tools you might need to use a bigger hose and quick connects to get more air flow.
@@dieselgypsy1100 thanks, I do have 2 10m hoses and quick connects. I also have a filter which will add oil to the tools. I’ll see how I get on with it first before I look at bigger tanks.
Replacing all the coolant hoses for silicone is some of the best preventive maintenance you can do on an old LR, especially if planing a long drive and/or driving somewhere warm.
From someone who lives in Portugal and owns a 300tdi Disco, if you are coming down to Iberia and towing on top of that, do all the cooling you mentioned first, so if any gremlins come up after the replace you have time to sort it still at home. Consider replacing the expansion tank... And last but not least, refurbish the AC, if you are coming with kids in August, it's a must...
Thanks!
@@blaketrooperthats good to know thanks! I will be doing the coolant first and might swap out the expansion tank, though it isn’t that old I only replaced it a couple of years ago. Unfortunately my Landy doesn’t have ac, while it is one less thing to worry about it would be handy in the heat.
What is the roof bars for this? Please

Do you have any lift on your Disco? I'm looking to get some 31x10.5 installed on my completely stock Disco 1, i'm not doing hard stuff but i'm afraid of rubbing without camel cut and lift.
Hi, yeah I have a 2 inch lift. I have also done a camel cut
Pretty sure on back of my 90 on the studs there are spaces - PO had closed nuts on alloys - I swapped to steel Wolf wheels with open nuts they were iirc about 5-6mm which would be just right and save grinding studs
@@deanh3741 yeah that would have saved grinding them. I use the same nuts just incase I lose one I will always have a spare.
Love this!!! That campsite location is stunning😍

Hello Dan, would you have the reference and the dimensions with the offset of your rims? Or maybe the brand? and second question, do you use wheel spacers in addition to your offset rims? Kind regards, Yannis
Hi yannis, not sure where in the world you are but 4x4tyres.co.uk do the wheels. They are a 16 inch rim -32 offset and 8j width. I don’t run spacers just the wheels. Tyres are 265/75/16
@TheNorthernExplorer thank you for these details and for the link 👍and see you soon😉
@ happy new year 🥳
merci toi aussi 👍🥳👍🥳🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺😁🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You're correct with putting the oring at the base of the thread, the other way doesn't work. Use loctite aviation sealant on thread. Works perfectly, the sealant doesn't dry and stops it coming loose
Thank you
It was nice to meet Dan, a more intimate side of the person who makes videos about his experience with a Discovery. If you decide to keep this format, congratulations, because, as you say, it's ‘your’ channel and you don't have to just do what others do, that's your freedom. Congratulations from Portugal!
Thank you! I really appreciate this comment!

You so need to come down and go round Salisbury plain..
I do!
Replace bushings in front radius arms and install standard bushing without mid size tube. Make sure your central diff lock housing front shaft output has no wear. otherwise front diff flange will be loose and front shaft will give you vibrations. AFAIR double cardan needs to go to the LT230 and front in line with axle casing. then double compensate angle of LT230 and front is parallel to front axle pinion. Consider going for rubber type coupling on rear diff as it will eliminate any issues with angle on rear and should act as sort of vibration damper.
Thank you, I have done most of them but I think the front axle needs aligning to straighten the prop
Yes. It will cure root cause assuming double cardan will face LT230 (so front prop shaft to be installed opposite). However note bushings on frond radius also matter how it transfer vibrations ( i see you push in double sleeved bushings which is not good) . Double check front flange play on LT230. I know the bearing is with extra float etc. but it needs to be super tight in the end. Otherwise centre diff casing (FTC5207) require replacement as intermediate shaft is loose on the splines.
@@unclesam44 I will align the axle and see if that helps and then maybe change the bushings back to poly and see if that helps. The transfer box is a new one so should be fine on the output. I just need some free time to get on it. Thanks for the tips 👍
You can consider using bushing NTC6781 which has no inner sleeve . it transfers less vibration. Also seen "new" recon transfer boxes where someone didnt want to spend 400GBP for new FTC5207 and it was still having front flange not tight enough.
@@unclesam44 I do have a set of poly bushes that have barely been used so I’ll try them. The transfer box was from Ashcroft so I’d like to think it’s in good condition. I’ll try alignment first and then look further 😀
👍
