Jag har en annan film om hur kabeln till Gotland byggdes, invigningen av anläggningen blev år 1954. Uno Lam är den som ska ha alla credits för hans forskning om likström. I have another movie about how the cable to Gotland was built, the inauguration of the plant was in 1954. Uno Lam is the one who should have all the credits for his research on DC power.

Maintenance work on Cement Kiln 8 where changing race ring for the kiln. A work that is done after about 35 years service life. The weight of the race ring is 140 tons. It is filmed with a Gopro 3 camera with timelapse for 30 sec intervals.

Crane Building at Cementa Slite. A small test with a new Gopro camera. I do timelapse with 30 sec intervals as long as the batteries hold. It's a little bad with the actual battery life. Additional battery and the internal battery should provide 10 hours of run time but ends a battery to supply power, so they only have the time to shoot at, in this case up to 6 hours minus the weather condition...

To me this is like the bridge between locomotive prime mover and a ship only engine, it sounds so amazingly menacing
They have at least one of these at the power plant in the town close to me. It's been down a couple of months.
Very impressive sound of a V-18 at such a low operating speed!

We use fresh water in a closed system that is switched to our district heating system.

En fråga till, det står om ett varvtal på 400 rpm. Jag får inte ihop det med nätfrekvensen 50 Hz och något poltal som finns att välja på för generatorer. Det måste väl vara en synkrongenerator och med tanke på åldern så körs den säkert utan sådana moderna häxkonster som tillåter annan frekvens från generatorn än nätfrekvensen och det är väl ingen växellåda mellan motorn och generatorn heller (eller är det det?). I så fall kan man t ex få 50 Hz med en tolvpolig generator som snurrar med 500 rpm. Tillägg: Aha, man ser ju en märkskylt precis på slutet där det står det udda varvtalet 428,6 rpm. Då är det en 14-polig generator, det ger 50 Hz på det varvtalet.
Jag trodde inte det fanns kvar något dieseldrivet kraftverk på Gotland längre. Det är inte mycket jag hittar om den här motorn när jag Googlar. Finns den vid anläggningen i Skrubbs? Skulle det finnas möjlighet för några motorintresserade grabbar att komma och titta på motorn i slutet av juli? Jag har inte frågat om de andra vill men jag älskar sådana maskiner. Vi åkte upp och tittade på oljepumpen i Rute förrförra sommaren, inte det kändaste turistmålet på ön kanske... Tillägg: Jag läste i beskrivningen om katalysator för att ta bort svavel från avgaserna. Det är inte svavel som en katalysator reducerar utan kväveoxider (och lite annat med). Det kanske finns någon annan mojäng också på anläggningen som tar bor svavel, möjligen en skrubber men knappast själva katalysatorn. (Hade ju passat bra med en skrubber i Skrubbs, om det är där den finns.)

If is a 2 strokes runs at 200 rpm, of os 4 strokes,runs at 400 rpm. The mechanic touch the heads and if he feels some vibration anormal,he discover the cover and fiind the problem.
any ideas of compression ratio on a big engine like this compared to road .. lower ???

215 ci per cylinder?
Jordan Roberts EMD'S, have up to 1,010 ci, per cylinder, but they are medium speed diesel engines that run at 900 rpm.

I find it amazing at how low of an RPM these engines run at idle. Even under full power, they are still at a less RPM than a car engine idling.

As with any internal combustion engine, there is the velocity of the explosive wave front. These engines have a longer piston stroke and even though the rpm is low the piston is travelling at a high velocity. To achieve more power output you need more power strokes and higher rpm, you will need a much shorter piston stroke to reduce the piston to a lower velocity. Compare a convention cannon to the Rail Gun. The projectile cannot travel faster than the explosive wave front.
Essentially it comes down to pure physics... Engine components of such sheer displacement and mass cannot counter gravity.. also with the centrifugal force of crankshafts and other parts they simply cannot rev like their smaller counter parts... BUT.. I totally get what you're saying man ☺️

Air at high pressure contained in a huge pressure bottle,and a compressor to fill the bottle. the bottle may have the capacity for 15 starts without using the compressor( this is tipic)
Happy that I never came across with this engine when I was at sea, 36 exhaust valves to maintain!! I am more into a 2-stroke crosshead engine. That did cost quitte an amount of starting air to get it running, long stand-still maybe? But at no load and on gas-oil the engine sounds nice.
