Yes, that’s pretty much the best way to get to your high cost cards in ND, unless your deck has good synergy with some of the other mana increasing cards! Doesn’t fit with every deck, but if you’re playing a 3+ civilization deck like my opponent, it’s like a staple!

@@noctisfatehart Ah okay. That makes a lot of sense. I am also noticing that each Civilization has limits on what it can do. Seems like Water, Fire, and Light (i think) has some sort of card draw.

@@Kitepyro Yup, water is usually draw power, fire is usually destruction and light is usually shieldify(turning cards into shields)! They each have a few more unique traits too, all civilizations have quite a few of them!

@@noctisfatehart I started 3 days ago and it's still a bit hard. But it's still really satisfying and interesting, despite the speed and insanity it still feels like both players get to play. Hopefully I can get better at understanding what's happening.

I believe there's also a DMPlays discord if you check for the DM Play's Wiki page, they might be a good start to check out!

@@Ehibika This isn’t necessarily a normal format as far as I know, just one made for a short event going on right now in the mobile game called “SP Rule”. Every so often they put out an event with unique rules for folks to play so they can achieve point goals in game to get rewards. Normal formats are still the same as ever, although stuff like mana deletion is indeed a thing. The game isn’t that different from how it used to be back in the day, in the west, but of course there’s plenty of power creep like any other TCG. It’s still plenty fun and one of my favorite cards games, however. This is all in the mobile game “Duel Master’s Play’s”, which is a bit behind the official card sets in Japan where there are even more new effects and card types!

@noctisfatehart interesting! And something I've always been curious about is the color identity and aesthetic of the game since the end of the western era. Specifically, does the game still carry on with the whole internal story of the five elemental civilizations? Or have it since gone in the something else? And have the mechanical identities for each color changed any over the years? Hopefully we're not where they all kind of do the same thing.

@@Ehibika Yes, the story has continued but it’s much much MUCH more complex than it used to be. Moreso based on races rather than just the colors nowadays. I’m not as well versed with the lore as I would like as most of it is still in Japanese, but the wiki pages have a lot of it there! Personally, I’d say all the colors/civilizations have kept their identity for the most part. Most effects/keywords still tend to be exclusive to a color or a race these days. There is some overlap but there’s usually only such if it’s a multi color card or if the race exists across colors. I don’t feel like any of the colors feel the same, at least from all of the ones I’ve played, they all seem to still fit pretty well heavily under their unique color based gimmicks. Mostly, they seem to often introduce new abilities that work with a the usual color gimmicks over anything else!

@@KabutoGatack009 Heya, I believe the unique versions of their cards and their skins are indeed paid only, but other variant cards can usually be found in the points shop which comes from turning excess cards into points and aren’t usually paid stuff. Chips, which are used for avatar accessories, skins and a few other things like playmats and sleeves, are also easily available in the different formats of play in game. There are a bunch of events that usually occur when they do these collabs and as long as you play them enough, you get some other free unique cards, variants with the characters on them/their voice and other rewards related to the event characters! Personally speaking, it wasn’t very hard to start the game, IMO. They have rental decks that are fairly decent in pretty much every type of format you could want, so just playing with those until you have the currency to buy packs was enough for me. You can even use rental decks in ranked! I just did events, ranked and story mode for a long time using them and then copied a rental deck as a base to get me started and crafted every card in it with points. You’ll want to do that if you aren’t sure about what kind of deck you want to build as the rental decks give you a good, basic outline on the civilization and playstyle of the current tier. Though, there are two different ranked formats of play, one where you can only use the current seasons of cards and one where all is available, so I’d recommend building for the current season of ranked because it can be used in both, just to save yourself the trouble of having to use all your currencies to build two different decks. I’m not really an expert or anything so it may be good to try it out yourself first or to seek out some other resources! I only play a few times every other day and accomplish a fair amount so I don’t think it will be too hard to get started! Good luck! 🤗

I also assume collab will be done fairly soon considering it started on June 28 but I'll still try it out for a bit. Been looking for another digital tcg to play and had exposure to duel masters as a kid.

I haven’t changed any settings to achieve this, just using the method I found on Reddit it runs at this framerate. I do have my GPU graphics settings set to 60 though, with an NVIDIA card, so it may be a hardware difference between us that causes it.

@@noctisfatehart Thank you for your reply. I'm playing the game in Japanese, so I haven't actually tried translating it into English yet. I didn't see any performance improvement steps in the translation instructions, so I thought there might be something else I need to do, but maybe it's already improved in the translation process. I'm going to try translating it a bit and see. If that doesn't work, I'll also take a look at my GPU settings. Thank you for the information!!

Thank you! Well, I don’t think I’m really a good example of what to go for but I’d recommend trying out the basic decks for each civilization and seeing which playstyle might fit your liking. They don’t fully represent how each civ plays but they’re a good start and you have them all from the start. After that, there are several deck recipes you can use to make a playable deck of different civilizations, but you’ll need to have enough crafting points to craft all the cards in it. Otherwise you’ll have to search for the packs they come from and just open those. For packs, I just opened as many as I had the tickets for, but unless you know the cards you’d want from each one prior then you probably don’t have to worry about them much. I basically opened them just so I could have cards to dust into crafting points for the prebuilt decks. From there it’s just a matter of searching for cards you could use to improve your base deck and finding something that suits your tastes. There’s two different formats to play, mainly. One that focuses on a more curated choice of cards in the current sets and one that includes all cards, even those from previous formats/sets that are not current. It’s a lot of trial and error, but I really just used the Duel Master’s wiki to figure out what I want to use! I wish I could be of more help, but I kinda just wing it and go with the flow of what I like! Sorry!

There’s also special styles of play where you can get coins and currency to purchase packs and gets rewards if you need them. The story obviously, ranked matches, city battle and quick pick. They’re all prettt fun and useful ways to get stuff to use to get more cards! Quick Pick is great for testing out cards and civilizations of various types because it’s a draft format where you pick from a set of cards to build a deck! It puts you on the same level of building as your opponent so it’s very useful in figuring out the flow of the different types of cards and will give you a better idea on building a decent deck! I’m sure there are resources or Discord channels that do a better job so those are just my experiences and opinions!
