      @AntiZOGZone Yes a bit underpowered similar to every ww2 vehicle but has amazing traction in off road conditions. They are a rare vehicle compared with other Dodge Weapons Carriers or Jeeps with only about 20,000 bieng made, and more expensive. Mine has a top speed of 50mph/80kmh. Both my Studebaker 6x6 and Willys Jeep mb are slower by about 10mph. They are a bit underpowered as well. Both also have flat heads. Unlike the other Dodge Weapon Carriers the 6x6 has both high and low range, useful in heavy sand. The 6x6 version was born because the US went from a 8 man squad to a 12 man squad. Once youv driven one you'll smile for a week.

We use and fire all our guns that's what they were made to do plus we are not collectors. Having said that we almost didn't open it up. Also the war was over when it was manufactured collectors find the ones made during the war years more desirable apparently. Thanks for watching and have a awesome day!

    So there’s some confusion and mythology around these Fazakerleys. The Irish contract was actually completed and delivered as per several witnesses that were still alive a few years ago and confirmed that delivery. Truth is, these were designated for the Royal Navy and production was halted in a rush in June 1955 to set Fazakerley up for production of the first run of L1A1’s. Or British conversion of the metric FAL from Belgium. Limited to fire only in semiautomatic. Thanks for the video fellas. Will clean mine up in 2025 when it turns 70.

    6,000 AUD is 3,935 USD. These retailed for under 200 USD in tbe early 90’s when they first hit the US civilian market. They cane mummy wrapped and retards considered them junk and beat the piss out of them. Ipicked a UF55 series, made in June 1955. Last month of production at Fazakerley. Mjne is in the middle category. Meaning that it’s unwrapped but uncleaned and unfired. Action is still packed with Cosmoline. Unwrapped, whenever they show up, are between 2500-3000 usd, so you guys paid high retail. Next category would be mine: unwrapped but uncleaned and unfired. And they go for between 1,400 and 2,000 bucks. ( i got it for 700😊) Ans the last category is obviously used, fired condition, and the going price varies from how beat they are to great shape and max out at 700 bucks. I’m planning on cleaning and firing it soon. In June actually. She’ll turn 70 and I’ll turn 45. So we’ll have to celebrate.

      All good mate Aussie prices have gone through the roof for even clunker 303s here. Recently a sniper 303 went for $13,500 I'm not sure what they go for over the pond. It's difficult to gauge here in Aus as i haven't seen another one for sale and those that have bought one that i know of did so years ago. People here are paying $1000 for junk that doesn't even shoot straight 😒

    • @factorybear5264
      @factorybear5264 6 месяцев назад

      @@Outbackvintagevehicles That’s absolutely nuts. I’m in the US, but Canada is littered with 303’s. Especially sporterized ones for hunting.They’re cheap as shit because nobody wants them. They’re not appreciated anymore. Australia was under the crown also. You guys should have 303’s in massive numbers. Prices should really not be that high for your grandfather’s father’s beater. How much is a box of rounds then? Like 20 rounds of 303, or anything else common, like 308. Just curious. Is it insanely priced as well?

    • @Outbackvintagevehicles
      @Outbackvintagevehicles 6 месяцев назад

      @factorybear5264 One loaded factory round in Aus is $3 bucks and up. I reload for about $1.35 per round. Large rifle primers and powder is difficult to get hold of lately because supply is very slow from America for some reason. Iv noticed since our government, rightly or wrongly, severely restricted what type of firearms the public can use that the prices for pretty much all firearms have become over the top. I'm not sure how much the magazine has played into that but there is also a big resurgence of 303 range shooting clubs in the last few years. It's like all of a sudden every one has to have one. My next door neighbour bought a old used one recently and paid $2,500 for instance and 10 years ago he could have bought the same rifle for $500. A lot of the Aussie ones were turned into sporters and those don't get the high prices. Recently i bought 2 sporterised 303.25s for $450 and $480 for instance. Yes Australia was flooded with 303s but they could barely give them away prior the new laws.

    • @factorybear5264
      @factorybear5264 6 месяцев назад

      @@Outbackvintagevehicles Inflation in America has risen dramatically but you’re telling me some prices beyond my realm of understanding bud. And here i was thinking our ammo went up. And it did go up. Almost 3x more expensive than 10-15 years ago, but then again, the dollar is worth a lot less now and prices just reflect it in America. Meaning, the prices are higher only in the sense that dollar amount/ price on the bag of potato chips (crisps) is higher than it was 3 years ago , but in reality, they cost the same as they did 3 years ago, it’s just that the dollar is worth that much less. And that’s inflation for you. The hidden tax. But what your government seems to be doing is shameless robbery. My ex was a kiwi and moved to Brisbane, so I know how Australia works as far as everything needs to be shipped there and the cost of goods reflect the shipping costs. Like a 500 dollar Fender guitar might cost double but the guns and ammo prices you’re talking about are insane. Now let me ask you. Since the big ban you had, how difficult is it to become a gun owner? Here in America it varies by state depending on the type of firearm, but generally speaking, we can get anything as far as long guns without a need for special permits. NY and California are the most restrictive towards assault rifles and they need to have some compliance modifications such as no pistol grips, and ten round capacity mags. NY took the lead in being even more restrictive in September of 2022 after making a law that requires a special license for semiautomatics bought after that date. Meaning if you had a semiautomatic rifle in centerfire or rimfire prior to the law, you are grandfathered in and do not need said license unless you plan on buying more. Retardedly enough, the law doesn’t apply to semiautomatic shotguns. Also, since very recently, in NY, we now need to pass a State background check to purchase ammo. The cost of $2.50 is to be paid by the purchaser regardless of the amount of ammunition being purchased in that transaction. And just to be clear, when I say New York, Im talking about New York State which is very rural and sprawling in wilderness. Not talking about NYC where legal gun ownership is dam near impossible. So again, my question is do you need any special permits to own a rifle or shotgun now in Australia?

    • @Outbackvintagevehicles
      @Outbackvintagevehicles 6 месяцев назад

      Hi mate the laws in Australia are quite involved. To get your firearms licence you need to be 18. Have a genuine reason like sport/ target shooting, recreational hunting, primary production, pest control, rural occupation, animal welfare, firearms collector. Depending on your genuine reason you need to provide proof of that genuine reason. Next obtain an application for a firearms licence. Complete a multiday firearms safety course. Pass a written and practical assessment and recieve a certificate that you have passed and completed your course. Identify your genuine reasons for a firearm. Identify the category firearm you require, most is A and B. recreational shooting/ hunting. If the applicant is applying for say a semi they must show " special reasons " as to why the applicant needs such a firearm and why a less lethal firearm will not do. These are rare. Attach the safety training completion certificate. Prove you meet the safe storage requirements for the firearm category you are seeking. Firearms registery police process your application and conduct national background checks including criminal records, mental health and intelligence checks. If you have a record you cannot obtain a licence including, sexual offence, drugs, robbery, terrorism , organised crime, criminal groups, fraud, stealing, domestic violence Wait 28 days for these checks to be carried out and application to proceed. Once approved you receive a letter. Providing you get the green light to obtain a gun you lodge a PTA, permit to acquire. You Identify the address the firearm is to be stored, prove your safe keeping requirements and reason for acquiring the firearm. Pay the fee. Send the PTA application to the firearms registry. There is a mandatory 28 day waiting period for the police background checks. Once you have the PTA you take it and your firearms licence to a Licenced Firearms Dealer. You purchase the gun and it can only be recieved by a firearms dealer and you must collect it from him for a fee. The Dealer will notify firearms registery of the purchase and the gun will be recorded on the National Registery Data Base. Cost for a shooter's licence is $144 for 5 years. Most get the a and b but there are also other categories. Category A is air rifles, rimfire rifles other than semi auto. Shotys other than lever, pump actions and semi auto. Category B guns include muzzle loading, including shotguns but not pistols and centre rifles but not semi automatic. It seems complicated at first but it's easy once you work it out. With the old laws it was all easier and in most states a pump action shotgun or semi auto wasn't a problem with A&B category.

    I managed to get my hands on a mummy bagged Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk 1 which was dated 1943. I don't remember the wrap causing me any issues. I also had a minor blem in the fore stock, same location which is weird. My butt stock is also made of the rare brass which was quickly converted to another less expensive metal in 1944. It's a beauty. I've never shot the gun, never intend to. The barrel and inner working are just full of the gunky cosmaline (sp?).

    • @Outbackvintagevehicles
      @Outbackvintagevehicles 7 месяцев назад

      Beautiful guns aren't they with such a long and colourful history. We should check our butt stock again as i now suspect it may not be brass after all which is slightly disappointing. I also came across another 303 with the same small imperfection in the same spot on the wood on you tube believe it or not. We kind of regret opening ours but it was a super rare joy to shoot a Lee Enfield that you knew was bieng fired for the first time! What a treat it was! You have a treasure there in that rifle and im sure you will take good care of her. Best of luck!

      @@Outbackvintagevehicles These rifles are indeed beautiful. You were right to unwrap the bag. No human is capable of buying that gun jamming it into a safe to forget about it. You have video proof it came in a mummy bag which is fine. For grins, a few years ago, I carefully put the Enfield into a collectors transport bag for safety. Took it to my favorite gun shop, let them look at it. I asked them what is was worth and what could I trade it for. Their eyes lit up, they said I could have anything in their store which was extensive, they never valued the rifle for me. I've had my Enfield for many years tucked into the back of one of my gun safes and can remember it cost me $250.00 I think in the early 80's. I would recommend not shooting the gun, leave the original gunk in the receiver and barrel assemblies since the value will only increase. Just a friendly suggestion :)

    Bad ass rifle , well made , very durable solid wood. They used this model as a sniper rifle as well being that this 303 model has a long barrel. I wanted to get my 1st buck with my infield , but it's heavy as an oak tree. Respect to all the war veterans that had to carry this beast into battle. I still have mine , and it still shoots like a new rifle. I love the spring back lever action for faster reloading. I have the original sights , but put on a high power scope for long range target shooting. Nice video, thank you for sharing.

      Lol the 6g has brought a lot of attention and fair enough. I had no problem justifying the price but yes it is a lot of coin. Remember we are talking Aus dollars to but even so it is a lot. Worn out clunkers can go for 1g here in Aus that are only good as wall hangars and usually shoot crooked unfortunately. A sniper 303 fetches around 13g aus. I have yet to see another mummy wrap 303. There were 3 buyers attempting to purchase this rifle at the same time. I just happened to deliver the cash the quickest. These mummy wraps don't fall out of the sky anymore. I bought a factory wrapped Irish contract back in the mid 2000s for about $500 CAD. Beautiful blonde wood. The cosmoline melts right off the metal in a dishwasher. Just be sure to oil it thoroughly as soon as it is dry and still hot. I rubbed the wood down with turpentine and then refinished it with a mix of 1/3 Beeswax, 1/3 Boiled Linseed oil and 1/3 Turpentine mix. Every day for a week, every week for a month and every month for a year. Then annually. I do all my wood handled tools like that.

    Наверно я последний по всему СССР, который работал на студере. В 1967 году устроился в автобазу и мне дали студебекер. Возил почту чабанам на отгоны в пески Кызыл Кум. Студер был 1943 года выпуска. И после войны отработал 22 года без запчастей. Через год мне дали новый Зил 157 . Я сделал на нем несколько рейсов и попросил обратно Студебекер. Но его уже порезали на металлолом. Зил 157 тоже нигде не останавливался, но если Студебекер на горку залетал то Зил заползал на 1й передаче. Студебекер нигде не садился не разу не застрял, по проходимости был даже лучше Урала. Так как легче.

      Awesome thank you for your comment 😀 Russian's loved the Studebaker it would have been harder to win without them and Russia didn't have a decent equivalent at the time. They could run on almost any octane fuel and was loaded with 5 ton regularly it bieng a deauce and a half rated off road but the 4x4 versions rated heavier rated for good roads. The Russian's didn't worry about weight capacity they just loaded the back to the cab roof. Russian's loved them that much Stalin sent the US president a thank you letter personally thanking him for sending such a great truck. The Studebaker.

    Served in the Aussie Army in the 80's. Only new rifle i saw was when our platoon took delivery of a brand new L1A1 SLR that went to the designated marksman. We all stood around and watched in awe as Pte Peters wiped away all the cosmoline to reveal the virgin metal beneath. A thing of beauty. (Saw a bunch of new guns however when the M60 got replaced by the Mag 58) 😆

    The Lee Enfield 303 is one of the best rifles I've ever had the pleasure of firing. Just FYI rifles in general are never sent to the field with the wrapping still on them they are unwrapped and cleaned before they ever see service.

      Thanks for your comment. Wrapping no but cosmoline yes. My Uncle was a armourer in ww2 and on occasions soldiers had to remove the cosmoline themselves. Happened in the Pacific quiet a bit apparently.

    My dad had one, he use to shoot at the Range back in the 60's, he also used it to shoot kangaroos for dog meat on the farm, I used it a couple of times as a 12 year old, you needed to have the wood work bedded in for Target Shooting.

    I carried one of these for nearly two years when I served as a National Serviceman in a British Army infantry regiment in the early 1950's. It was for sure an excellent rifle the No. 4 and I always took due care of it and I did quite well during a Battalion an annual shooting competition coming 2nd on target shooting from 200 to 400 yards and the falling plate at 300 yards. The soldier who came first was in the sniper section and was good, really good whilst I was just a bit better than average. My rifle did have a screw back sight 25 yards adjustable which was useful rather than the standard slider. I seem to recall that the butts were available in three sizes, short, medium the standard, and long. We later moved on to the SLR or FAL which for shooting I was never really happy. At the time I had the opportunity to fire the SMLE Mk111 which seemed to have had an even more silky bolt action. It's back sight I never really got used to but the pundits at the time considered it more accurate then the aperture of the No.4. But practice makes perfect. Happy days!

      Thanks for your thoughts. I enjoyed reading what you had to say. I also used she SLR in the Australian army. It hit hard and carried the distance. I disliked bieng the radio man because of the extra weight but the batteries were shared at least. I quiet liked the SLR.
