Wind speed: 1…4m/s from west. (This is below the cut-in wind speed and thus too little for net-positive power generation. A product-version kite would remain on ground and wait for stronger wind.)

    Darf man fragen, ob auch ins Netz eingespeist wurde? Im Video sieht es so aus, als würde an einem komplett windstillen Tag geflogen und die Propeller durch das Stromnetz versorgt statt in selbiges einspeisend. Durchhängendes Kabel sieht nach Windstille aus. Wie gut funktioniert die Landung bei Wind?

    It would be interesting, if you could insert a power meter in a corner of the video in order to see in which flight phases power is generated or consumed. Why do you cruise in this laying 8 shape? Isn't it enough to bring the kite in down wind position just changing the hight and position relatively to the container to optimize the energy harvesting?

    Hey. I am a wind turbine loads engineer. It is good to see an update from this project. How do you think to fullfill IEC requirements for certification? Specifically, implementation of Design Load Cases in IEC standart would be challenging.

      For now we will go with IEC 61400-1 for the wind load cases. But really it's something to be yet defined properly for Airborne Wind Energy Systems.

      So far we've generated energy for small amounts of time (due to low wind conditions, the system shown in the video is capable of generating energy), this will increase this year for which we aim at long duration flights!

      Bien, estoy trabajando con el traductor de Google aquí, así que tengan paciencia conmigo. El sistema que ve en el video es nuestro demostrador que puede producir hasta 15kW. Nuestro primer producto tendrá una potencia nominal de 100kW con solo 4 veces la envergadura. Pero no se detiene ahí: en los próximos años queremos escalar hasta el rango de megavatios. Velocidad mínima del viento para permanecer en el aire: 0 metros por segundo. Porque podemos volar con la ayuda de nuestras máquinas de a bordo. Sin embargo, eso consume energía y solo se haría por períodos cortos de tiempo. Si el viento baja por más tiempo, aterrizaríamos y luego volveríamos a volar una vez que las condiciones sean adecuadas. La producción de energía comienza alrededor de 4-5 metros por segundo. ¡Atentamente!

    Nice Video. Do you have description of flying controller and it's software? The touchdown and launch should be theoretically possible at any azimuth direction to the wind - is it possible already? When will you try at stronger winds?

      By flying in figure eights (one could also do circles, but this has a few other advantages) the apparent wind speed at the kite is increased wich is benficial if you want to increase the power output. This has to do with how electrical machines produce power. The output scales with toque times rpm. But because torque scales with weight, and you really wnat to be lightweight, you do not go with high torques, but with high rpm. Makes sense?

    How this can generate a net electricity gain considering the thrust required to maintain itself in the air?

      The wings generate the forward thrust, just like the blade tips of a conventional wind turbine generate forward thrust to rotated the rotor.
