Every week I read a biography of an entrepreneur and tell you what I learned.
This quote explains why:
“There are thousands of years of history in which lots and lots of very smart people worked very hard and ran all types of experiments on how to create new businesses and invent new technology. They ran these experiments throughout their entire lives. At some point, somebody put these ideas down in a book. For very little money and a few hours of time, you can learn from someone’s accumulated experience. There is so much more to learn from the past than we often realize. You could productively spend your time reading experiences of great people who have come before and you learn every time.” -Marc Andreessen

#362 Li Lu
What I learned from reading "Moving The Mountain: My life in China from the Cultural Revolution to Tiananmen Square" (a.co/d/f1QXdIR) by Li Lu.
Charlie Munger said that Li Lu was the only outsider he ever trusted with his money. Decades before Li Lu made Munger half a billion dollars, Li survived one of the most horrific childhoods imaginable:
Born into poverty, abandoned, hungry, beaten, surrounded by death. Persistent. Smart. Disciplined. Intensely curious. Obsessed with reading and learning. Determined to escape. This is a story you absolutely cannot miss.

#361 Estée Lauder

This is my third time reading this book. It gets better every time I read it. This episode is what I learned from rereading "Estée: A Success Story" (a.co/d/b9MThPy) by Estée Lauder. Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger said it was a crime that more business schools didn't study Henry Singleton. I think it's a crime that more entrepreneurs don't study Estée Lauder. She is one of the best founders ...

What I learned from reading "The Power of Fastenal People" (a.co/d/bo6SAbm) by Robert Kierlin. Since its founding in 1967 Fastenal has grown from a small fastener store in Winona, Minnesota, into a multibillion-dollar global organization. How did a small town “nuts and bolts” shop become one of the world's most dynamic growth companies? Whenever asked, company founder Bob Kierlin attributes Fas...

I don’t know how your videos don’t have millions of views, but you’ll get there much sooner. A tipping point will come. Never give up! I absolutely LOVE your podcasts and have recommended it to many :)

i love these podcast
I love listening to this story. Thank Y😍U for making it so inspiring
Love this channel! In Sweden Ivars legacy is that he is the builder of our industrial economy and because he did that he also made it possible to create our welfare we have today and we believe he was murdered. Great job at the videos can you please do Ingvar Kamprad founder of Ikea?
New biography of Daniel Ludwig: 'Capitalism in the Epic Sense: Daniel Ludwig’s adventure in the Brazilian Amazon’. [2023] Amazon USA: US$5.00
I just found this podcast and am hooked. Cheers very grateful
Thank you for these episodes & stories. Everytime I feel down I listen to one episode and continue working.
Multi-billionaire
I've always despised gambling until recently when I realised there is something in it to learn (not by gambling but by understanding the process). I've avoided it to the point that I would skip Ads or change channels when gambling was mentioned. Recently though, I figured how betting happens in ALL parts of life. And the underlying principles come from probability theory. It's funny how it mimics our origin. The tree that was the center of the heaven was also forbidden. By metaphor, if only Adam enjoyed its shade living carefree without indulging into the forbidden...
Good is the enemy of great. There I fixed the whole podcast for you.
Can you do an episode on the Cargil family
Lots of great points to take away
thank you
thank you for sharing
Dude, been listening to your stuff for a while, thank you for putting out what you do in the world. Always got quality content
Life is weird

Amazing work David! Thank You for sharing
Phew! That was terrifying. I’m starting to think communism never really went away, like nothing’s really changed. We’re just lucky to be under democracy’s wing, keeping us safe. Seriously, somebody please* save America. 😢🥺
Huge fan of your show David. I had seen your videos here on RUclips accidentally and instantly felt you were good (though you had very few subscribers and views) but I really found you when I saw you with Ben and David on their podcast. I love Acquired too. I wanted to something which both of your podcasts do. So I came up with an idea that comes pretty close and that also resonates deeply with me. So I am going to take your idea of reading a founder biography and making an episode on it and then use it for my own newsletter. I'll extend your idea to how great entrepreneurs, artists and athletes find an edge over their competition and succeed.. I have already begun writing about it on Medium. I'll soon start my newsletter. I also want it to have the depth that Ben and David bring to their podcast. Maybe turn it into a book one day. Possibilities are limitless. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work.
27:46 is a banger
Can't wait for second part ❤️🔥
Love your delivery, voice, presentation. I would pay to listen to these summations and insights. Bravo!

Thanks for these videos. I started listening to 1 video every Monday when I take the day to fast. In my notebook I'm writing down all the points that stand out. Hope your channel starts really growing and everyone that listens gains knowledge they implement.
The podcast is amazing as always. Really appreciate that you put it on RUclips.
I learned about this podcast from the CEO of Wayfair. The positive consequence of that advice is only rivaled by the advice from this podcast itself.
Best podcast in the world
32:20 goosebumps 🔥
This is the first time I've seen the number of listeners on your podcast, it's outrageous, I was sure it was watched by millions. Absolutely amazing work, thank you so much for the endless enthusiasm in your voice, it's impossible to tear yourself away from the episodes
99% of the listeners are using podcasting apps.
@@roeylalazar that explains a lot! in kazakhstan we don´t have an access for those platforms(or only partial access where you can't listen to everything). So thank you very much for using youtube too
Just found a new gem in RUclips
I haven't listened to this particular podcast yet, but I'm just here to say that your content is amazing. I'm from Brazil, I came here after a recommendation from Nick Bare and since then I've been listening to your podcast every day. Congratulations on your project and thank you for making all these biographies accessible, I'm starting to read some and this content is really changing my life. Another thing, my mind was blown when I saw your RUclips numbers, my mind was making a connection between quality and numbers... I'm sure it's just a matter of time for you to get great numbers here. And a quick question, I'd like to know why you don't do audiovisual, I think that would make your RUclips content go higher (if that's a goal), have a great day.
Welcome to the pod
Liked in 6 seconds. You goddamn legend
You’d need a vault to house these gems because they cost a good penny. Great video, can’t wait to order this one.
Another great episode. Thanks!
