If you type in the YT search "Wild Goose State Trail Playlists", you will find the whole trail on video playlist. The trail has a Trailhead right off of Hwy 60, take Hwy 26 north to Hwy 60, and go east on Hwy 60. In about a mile going east, you will run into the trailhead for parking on the trail. It's a pretty big trail, so you may want to "piece meal", do the trail in segments. There is no street travel if you start at the trailhead. I just did he trail segment south for demonstration purposes. Take a peek at the playlist trail videos to make up your mind whether you want to take the trail or not. @@oatmealman1694 If you get the chance, go up the mountain from the middle of the trail (Blue Mound State Park) and go up to the observation towers and view the scenery from way up there. I've got a video from up there, but it's not the same as being there (the video doesn't give the view from up there the respect it deserves). I also have the connecting route from the Military Ridge Trail to the Cheese Trail, if interested. The trails unfortunately might be closed at this time due to CV19.

I was on the bicycle which is included in the photograph to the left. The time was sped up on the video to make the video move along faster since these trails span through a good portion of the state, and are time-taking.

The trail looks better when you took it. When I crossed the state line it was over grown and almost like a MTB trail.

In Illinois on the Jane Addams trail--when I rode on it, the trail was kept up, was in general overall good shape, and was fun to ride on. When one gets to the WI State Line to the Badger State Trail going Northbound, the trail is not kept up, grass and weeds run wild, and worse yet, you have to pay for a pass to ride on the WI trail! In my opinion, IL has far better bicycle trails from rail lines, they're free to go on, and they are kept up. I'm really impressed with the trails down there.

Wisconsin Rails to trails cycler the box to collect the pass is gone. It’s actually worse now than when you did your video.

I love this trail. A wonderful mix of beautiful scenery, interesting little towns, a well maintained trail, and even a pre-Columbian archaeological site (Aztalan) just east of Lake Mills. There is also a quaint state campground just south of Lake Mills if you want to do the trail in two days, or you can get lodging in Lake Mills if you don't want to camp.

When I was younger, it took me approximately four hours to get from Waukesha, WI to Cottage Grove. I'm older now (can't do it like THAT anymore) , and the trail has gone through some changes on the western half section due to weather conditions, I think. Also, it is advised to put some bug spray on when bicycling on the trail, due to all the deer flies & mosquitos. Unfortunately, at this point I've been busy with my van build currently, so I haven't been doing any trail rides at this time. The Military Ridge Trail in Verona, WI is also a suggested nice trail for you as well. If you get the chance, go on that trail, and if possible, turn off the exit trail at Blue Mound State Park, and go up the trail, sign in at the registration station, & camp out there at the Blue mound State Park. Then, go on their observation deck. I have a video about both observation decks there, but it doesn't give the view proper justice as it is just being there. You feel like you are on top of the world!

I am looking at doing a week's long ride up through Wisconsin on trails like this. Can you recommend a good resource for planning my trip?

The DNR, over time as I understand it, is going to eventually "connect" a lot of the trails & pathways together to form one big trail; either east to west or north to south. The best trail right now I can think of at this time for you is the trail that starts in Reedsburg (see my videos on the trails), and goes 105 miles through bicycle trails off the old rail line which provided railroad service back in the day. There are 4 different trails "The Reedsburg '400', The Elroy Sparta (3 tunnels on this trail), La Crosse River, and Great River State Trails" that interconnect with each other. You need to purchase a daily or yearly trail pass in order to ride on the State Trails like this one, though. You can search the internet to see which trails are where, and which ones are the trail you would like to go on. There are also trails which go from the border of Wisconsin down into Illinois, and seem to go on FOREVER, if that is your thing (See my videos on the Prairie/Fox River Trails). You can also go on Google Maps/Menu/Bicycling to get a view on where all the trails you may want to go on are as well. I hope this helps you, and I hope you find the trail you are looking for.

@@wisconsinrailstotrailscycl4277 Thank you. This is the type of support I was seeking. I am looking for a trail that I can ride out and back on and burn a week. I saw some trails northbound near LaCross or Tomah (where I can take the Empire Builder up from Chicago to start the ride.) I am still researching. My preference would be flatter, rails to trails type of terrain. Anyway, I will keep researching and figure something out.

I enjoyed the trail, but unfortunately there was a major storm in the area that took down trees & did damage to the trail with respect to the bridges, this is why the trees are in the way. It was a nice peaceful trail though. I remember someone left the gate open on a farm next to the trail near there that day, and the cows were all over the place.
