Pillow water type aquatic plants are recommended because they supply more oxygen to the water than floating plants. Aeration is not very good for medaka fish that live in still water because it creates a stream of water. However, medaka requires not so much oxygen, so if the aquarium has a wide water surface, there is not much oxygen shortage. Normally, it is said that two medaka fish require 1L or more of water. Therefore, for 20 medaka fish, aeration is not required if there is 10L or more of water. In addition to supplying oxygen, aquatic plants have a role of purifying water, so it is better for the health of medaka. However, since aquatic plants also breathe and consume oxygen, care must be taken during times when there is no light.

At the moment, we are testing the cultivation of locally available medaka fish, and we will start culturing by transporting about 10 varieties of medaka fish from Japan in the early spring of next year. If all goes well, I think we can start distribution in the fall. If the aquaculture in California is going well, I think we can start the cultivation of more varieties of medaka. Breeding medaka sometimes causes malformations. I'm raising it with biotopes so that they can live happily.

There is a degree of inbreeding in medaka, so naturally there are some deformations. Some of the newer strains can be like this, but with enough culling and careful outcrossing, you can bring back genetic health to a medaka strain.

this is a very large and great pond for medaka they live in rice fields naturally and prefer shallow still waters
