Franklin's Tower by The Grateful Dead (Steel Pan Cover)
I saw "Franklin's Tower" performed by Dead and Company in 2021 in Philly. A rainbow appeared over the whole stadium when they played it. Needless to say it was amazing and it's been a staple in my repertoire ever since.

I love this... so much, it is possible if I wanna get sheet music? I have to play for my Marimba Recitals. 🙏🏻❤️❤️
@tiidrummy860 Thank you very much! This piece is in the public domain so you can get the sheet music doing a search or download it from IMSLP.
i love your plyaing!
Thank you. Much obliged!
i like it
Thanks!
A Mike Dettra classic!
Indeed!
it´s a nice interpretation. I´m trying to go from 2 mallets to 3 and 4. I´s possible to get this sheet music? Thank you
Thank you! I just used the original Bach sheet music that can be downloaded through ISMLP or a google image search. I tried 2,3, and 4 mallets but ultimately settled on 3 because it gave me the ease of only holding 1 mallet with the right hand combined with the texture of adding the bass mallet to the left hand.
@@DettraMentalMusic Thank you for your answer. I'll try that way
Bravo!!!!
Excellent !!!
Thank you!
Why do I like this better than piano
Cello
@@Treblemaker888, the cello, like the violin, is one of the hardest instruments to play. You have to memorize where the pitches are
Absolutely wonderful.
Thank you!
Beutefull
English
That was really well done
Always a pleasure to listen to someone who understands how to time a Bach composition, unlike a famous cellist I can think of.
Thank you! Much obliged!
Which cellist?
@@chrisoconnor9521 Well, it isn't Rostropovich. He was extremely good. Also he is no longer alive.
Hey Mike!! Beautiful playing, hope you’re well!
Thanks, Anthony! That's very much appreciated.
Ivr Mogings, Moonbug, Lamis Conner - Prelude.
That was marvellous! Sounds very Carribean and authentic. 😀👏
Thank you very much!
Great choice - Sounds awesome!
Thanks Joe! That mean a lot!
That translates to the steel drum surprisingly well.
Thanks Jesse!
Very cool, Mike!
It's Steve S.
Thanks Steve!
awesome
Thanks!
Very good.
Thank you!
Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement.
Keep up the work man 👍
Bravo! 🎊🎉Well done!👏🎉👏🥁🎺🎸🎵🎷
I agree! Thank you!
If Bach had had a marimba, he would certainly have composed suites for marimba. 😉Bravo, thank you for sharing! 👏
He did have a marimba. It’s called a piano.
@@augustsmith9553No, it’s not. A marimba is a marimba, and a piano is a piano. It’s almost an entirely different skill set playing marimba vs piano. It’s like saying I have a violin so I can write electric guitar music.
?@@allforone5693 👍😂 Very good.
Bach was a very busy man in his time. His musical IQ exceeded that of more than a thousand men combined, surpassing Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin, as well as Bartok, Debussy, and Shostakovich. Sadly, their music and the music of all the great composers will be wiped out if there is a World War III. Even Anton Dvorak's music
Well done, gents! Love the drummer’s “jazz stank” face!
Walter White and Gale Boetticher ....enjoying coffee together! ha
Nothing to see with samba at all. Your rythm is a kind of inversed baião, the typical hollywod mess-up about brazilian culture.
I understand where you're coming from. While I strive for authenticity in my music, our goal here was to play our own interpretation of a song we enjoy.
No problem, enjoy, but it' is definitively not a samba. Brazilian music deserve more respect.@@DettraMentalMusic
@@IRACEMABABU Indeed it does! Are you familiar with the original version Vince Guaraldi did with Bola Sete? Would you consider that a samba?
They play samba, but you play other rythm as i said. Your guitar and bass players are playing dotted quarter notes followed by eight notes comping rythm which doesn't belong to samba. If your reference is Bola Sete and Guaraldi, combo, try to emulate their comping.....@@DettraMentalMusic
@@IRACEMABABU I hear what you're saying. Thanks!
Very impressive, Mike.
Maravilloso!! Demasiado talento ...❤

Thanks!
Tonici e leggeri. Bravi!!!❤❤
That's good stuff, nice job!
Playing this song on the vibes for my college Jazz class :)) loved this rendition! I will be taking some notes on your marimba solo!
Thanks! Good luck with your class!
💎💎💎!!!
This is amazing!
well that was officially the best thing I've seen all day. thank you
Great Job!
So... when we start makin meth?
Awesome, Mike D!
Sounds great, I was looking up El Paso by the Grateful Dead for a friend to show him that they sang a Marty Robbins song and you popped up in the search, I love so many types of music especially Western cowboy and classic rock but always loved a steel drum✌️
u rlly have a long chin? but still, great cover
That's just my beard, but thanks!
beautiful!
Thank you!
That's some good coffee!
Thank you!
Love this rendition
Thanks!
This is amazing! Do you know where I could perhaps find the sheet music for this?
Thank you Kay W! This is what I call an "improvised arrangement" so there's no written music. I could possibly write it out and make it available though.
Yeah Man, that's what's up. When are y'all coming to Tampa?
Play Sad Day!!
I'll put it on the next recital
