There is a Drone in my Backyard!
There is a drone over my backyard!
Drones are awesome, but more and more it seems like there are two kinds of people. Those who have a drone (or more), and those who are concerned about their privacy the moment they see one.
What are the legal and moral implications of flying over people’s private properties?

Drone Registration in Mexico, Yes or No?

I have talked to the Federal Aviation Dept here in Mexico and was told quite clearly that no non Mexican can fly a drone, regardless of weight here. The laws changed back in about 2020 because of tourists abusing the no fly laws. I live here in Mexico and do fly my DJI Mini's quite a lot. But I always make it a point to be-friend a policeman of some kind before I do. The local police especially will confiscate your drone so they can resell it. The paper work shown on other videos are from 2019, laws change here just like any where else.

I went to Mexico in 2023 and thought I couldn't fly for commercial use which would have been the case if they determine RUclips commercial use. The resort also had a no drone restriction. The import tax is just a shakedown to get money out of you. They say if you paid it once keep the receipt as you shouldn't have to pay it again on a future trip. It didn't seem to be worth the hassle and you always run the risk of some police officer that doesn't know the confusing regulations either confronting you and you end up losing your drone or paying a bunch of money to get to keep it. I didn't even bother taking my drone to Mexico.

    • @TheOneDroneMan
      @TheOneDroneMan 2 месяца назад

The question of RUclips being considered commercial use, at a reward of $ 2 per day, or perhaps stock footage, it's a bit of a concern, but so far no one is checking on that. I will stick to taking my old Mini 2. 😉

I see so many cases of this ribbon snapping in the Mini 2 (including mine), that it seems to be a design flaw. Also, I did this ribbon repair on my Mini 2 and it said I needed a firmware update. I think I am going to look at other brands if I want a new drone.

Recently had to do this repair on my mini 2 as well. From looking at it before taking the cable out I think the rubber gimbal mounts are allowing too much movement potentially due to the rubber stretching with age. Mine is at about 3 yrs old now. While I was replacing the cable I replaced the rubber gimbal mounts and the new ones are a lot firmer and don’t allow as much movement.

Yesterday I received this in response to my inquiry to the AFAC (Mexican FAA) about foreigners operating in Mexico. This reply was cc'd to the Executive Director of Aviation in Mexico and the Director of Engineering Standards and Certification. So officials from the top down had eyes on this email. "In response to your email received on April 20 of this year and based on section 4.10.16. of the Mexican Official Standard NOM-107-SCT3-2019, which establishes the requirements to operate a remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) in Mexican airspace, I inform you that RPAS operations by foreigners are not allowed in Mexico, regardless of the weight of the aircraft or the intended use of it. I add the aforementioned numeral for quick reference 4.10.16. They will not be able to operate in Mexico an RPAS with foreign registration or registration or operated by foreign RPAS operators, other than those mentioned in section 4.10.15 of this Standard Mexican Official, unless there is a bilateral agreement between the Aeronautical Authority and the Aviation Authority. Civil Aviation of the state of registration/registration." So Mexico is a no fly zone for foreigners... So now I'm applying for Mexican citizenship and I'm going to bring down a drone that my mexican partner can fly, with my guidance, while the application is in work.

I say yeah go for the 3 pro with the screen controller you won't regret it and you can scout a scene with the 2 and then fully film or photograph it with the 3 pro. The 3 also performs much better at night with that bigger sensor and the wider aperture range too. Orbits are a piece of cake thanks to the spotlight mode too. The dcine profile is more flexible when colour grading too.

I'm not convinced that VLOS is even helpful. I have a Potensic Atom which is very easy to fly and I understand where it is all the time because of its FPV. I also have a cheap non-FPV drone and, even when it's still in the VLOS, I can't tell whether it's facing me or facing some other direction. So when I push it forward, it's not easy to tell quickly whether it's moving toward me or away from me. I'm pretty sure I'll eventually lose it because of that. Feels a little dangerous to even fly it.

I agree 100%. In Canada VLOS is supposed to mean that you can see the drone without visual aids. I think in the US it actually means something else, like being able to know where your drone is and having an unobstructed path to it. Don't quote me on that though. Thanks for sharing!

Great video - many thanks. Couldn’t agree more. I’ve got a Mini 4 Pro and am heading to Merida/Progreso in Yucatan for the first time. Am I OK to bring my drone? I’ve been flying for decades (my first was the AR Drone!), so understand risks.

Yes, absolutely! Progreso is an awesome area to fly. You have the ocean and also the lagoons. There are airplane tours of the area though, so just be aware of airplanes potentially popping up.

Just found your channel. Love it and we go to Mexico at least twice a year from the USA. I took my mini 2 to Cancun but it was way to windy so I just flew a little bit above the waves. Thanks for the info!

Thank you for watching and sharing. I hope you'll get some nice shots on subsequent trips. Wind can be a real challenge on the ocean.

Really appreciate this video - great sunset shot. Love your caution and pursuit of great shots. Also appreciate you calling the other pilot out. I think it's important for us to self-monitor with respect for each other. While we can say "he should have known ..." sometimes people just aren't thinking. (And unfortunately sometimes they just don't care - which puts our whole hobby at risk.)

Yes, definitely. It almost seems like some pilots have unlimited faith in the technology and 90 % of the time they get away with risky flying because technology saves them. But we all know that it can and will fail, usually at the worst time. Thanks for your encouragement!
