SMALL KITCHEN REMODEL: More unplanned projects, but at least we have a fully functioning kitchen
This week we continue our small kitchen remodel. We had to take a slight break because of leaking galvanized water pipes and galvanized drain pipes that were going to cause problems if they weren't changed soon. So might as well prevent a future looming plumbing disaster. Plus we realized we should have waited to shiplap the kitchen ceiling. WE persevered this week for sure. So glad to have a functioning kitchen again. Hope you enjoy the video this week!

SMALL KITCHEN REMODEL! Demolition Day! (That escalated quickly!)

After several months of no house projects, we are back! Starting with the kitchen, we went from planning on painting the old cabinets, to a complete gut of the kitchen down to the studs. This was not the original plan, but I think the right choice. In this episode, I walk through the thoughts and challenges we faced doing a kitchen demo for the first time. We bought cedar fence pickets and used them to build custom cedar shutters for our house! We spent less than $15 per shutter. This is a project that just about anyone could replicate. We have grown to love our house without shutters and don't know whether or not we want to hang them. IMPROVING OUR CURB APPEAL by adding landscaping to our freshly painted home.
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.2 года назад
Now that the house is painted, it is time to give it some pop with landscaping to improve the curb appeal. We thought about adding more emerald green arborvitaes, but were hesitant because of how tall they get and the front of our house does not get very much sun light. Also, we got to this project a little later than we wanted to and the plant selection was not what we were hoping for. So we s...
BEFORE ➡️ AFTER TRANSFORMATION! ❤️#DIY ❤️ WE PAINTED our brick house using our airless sprayer!
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.2 года назад
IT's FINISHED!!! You read that right. We are done painting our house with our Harbor Freight airless paint sprayer. We used a mineral based paint called Romabio. We aren't sponsored, but we absolutely love this paint. We would use it again without any hesitation or reservations. We got it done before the weather changed here in Kentucky. According to Romabio, the temperature should be between 5...
We are FINALLY painting our brick home! Using airless paint sprayer & mineral based paint #romabio
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
Ok. If you have followed us for any length of time, you have heard us talk about Romabio (not sponsored) and our intention to paint our house with it using our Harbor Freight airless paint sprayer. Well, that time has finally come! I know, I know...I can't believe it either. So far the majority of the changes we have made to our 1948 brick home have been on the inside. Now changes are coming to...
TUCK POINTING: brick and mortar repair. A Learning Experience
Просмотров 9832 года назад
This week we attempt to do something that we haven't ever tried before! Feels like we say this a lot lately, but it is true! On the agenda for this week: Tuck pointing the brick and mortar cracks of our 1948 house. Not going to lie, it was a little intimidating at first, but by the end, we felt like pro's (jk). But seriously, we learned a lot in the process and could definitely see how much bet...
Backyard DECK Removal: Can we SAVE ANY of this WOOD?
Просмотров 6572 года назад
Time to get back to the grind! In preparation of our next major project, painting the house, we have to remove our backyard deck! This has been neglected and has several areas of rot. We are hopeful to find some wood that is worth saving to use on other future projects (compost bin, chicken coop, replacement deck, etc.) We've enjoyed the break from working on the house, but winter is coming! "I'M SORRY FISHY!!!" Mill Creek Lake: Slade, Kentucky She caught her first fish! #fishing
Просмотров 6822 года назад
Mill Creek Lake is a quiet and peaceful, 27 acres, lake in Natural Bridge State Park. The lake is perfect for paddling canoes and kayaks. There is a boat ramp for small fishing boats, but only electric trolling motors may be operated. This means the waters stay calm and you don't have to deal with the wake for boats flying by you like we experienced at Cave Run Lake. We are beginners when it co...
Rappelling in to PINE HILL CAVE in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky with family and friends!
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 года назад
We went rappelling into a cave! Sounds crazy (especially if you know us), but it is true! Pine Hill Cave, which is one of over 130 known caves in Kentucky, is located in Rockcastle county just outside Mt. Vernon. After entering through the correctly named Skylight entrance, we began our journey exploring the 5 miles of the cave. Huge shout out to Brandon for organizing the trip and to Richard a...

Once we reached the Double Arch and took in the views, we headed to Courthouse Rock. It was incredible. It is a beautiful plac...

Hope you have lots of money ? 😂
Love this! Gonna take notes and build one too!
Did you guys wet the brick on the second coat as well? Or just first coat?
Just the first coat!
@@chris_laurathank you! also, I wasn’t sure if I heard in the video of you guys using the mineral shield?
We didn’t end up using it. I think we thought it was only for the lime wash products, but that isn’t the case. It is also recommended for the masonry flat product.
No hinges? No latch? Are they functional or only for the look?
Only for the look.
Getting ready to do the same thing with my new home. How has it held up over the last 2 and a half years?
It has held up pretty well. No issues for us.
Shutters
The newspaper may have come from work on the wall above to block air infitration. Why did you go with sliders? The hoppers open all the way to horizontal for 100% open.
Honestly, at the time, lack planning and local availability. We are still happy with the windows. The sliders come out giving us the access we need. Hoppers would possibly provide better ease access.
Big trees like that, a lot of money!
Shutters
because you were using fencing cedar, that stuff shrinks even when very tightly packed side by side. when used as fencing, so you probably woundn't need those spacers , They look great and are hugely economical! Nice job! I'm on Team Shutters. Cant find fault with architectural design
Thank you for that feedback!
Never paint brick! Always stain!
Umm. Research the product first. It is made specifically for that purpose.
@@chris_laura in a few years I’ll start to crack and peel. it’s not recommended to paint exterior walls.. interior walls are fine since they’re not exposed to the elements..

Great Video! Just ran into you guys as I was searching for yard ideas. Btw, the privacy trees came out great on that huge back yard. Good luck the rest of the way- I guess I'll have to watch more videos (to see how hard Chris has to work-☺), Love the team work though!
Putting drylok, or any waterproofing on the inside of a block wall, will lead the disintegration of your block wall. Wall. The wall will still have water in it, and you're keeping the water in the block. You need a waterproof from the outside.
amen
Is there an update on these
They are all doing great! This season they have really fattened up. They’ve also grown about 1.5-2 feet since they were planted.
Awesome
Yes definitely put the shutters up. Looks so good.
Looks wonderful! Great job!
Great video! What is the best distance between thujas and other trees? I made a mistake of planting saskatoon trees along the fence first just to realize they will not be a good privacy fence. Im thinking of planting thujas (brandon cedars) 2 feet away from the fence. But it will make it very tight to the saskatoons. What to do? Pls help
i really like they gray makes it look wider
Thanks for sharing your basement project. We are doing our basement now. It is so time consuming and messy. If possible, can you share the brand name of your dehumidifier. By the way, I love your paint inspector. 😊
Thank you! 🙏🏻 it was quite the project, but it is 100% worth it! Our basement dehumidifier is an Aprilaire model 1710.
Did a great job they look amazing
Shutters definitely
Great job! Would you say the Romabio flat should be about the consistency of buttermilk or thinner?
Thank you! I would say it is a little thinner. We followed the manufacturer recommendations for adding water.
Very cool. Getting into kayaking this year and trying to figure out WHERE to store. I am liking the DIY rack solution. Congrats!
I think the grey is lovely! You guys are supremely helpful. Thanks!
Glad we could help!
What color limewash did you use?
We didn’t use limewash. We used Romabio’s masonry flat paint in Avorio White. romabio.com/masonryflat/
First off great job. and Chris you're a lucky guy to have a woman want to tackle this project with you! you guys are great!. I'm about to do this same thing! I'm glad you had success with the Avanti painter. Is it still holding up? I'm on the fence on buying this one or the X7 which is a lot more at home depot because it's rebuildable. But on the house it looks great! I'm painting my house a similar color but doing all the trim and the gutters a dark grey to give it some contrast.
Thank you! So far the sprayer has held up. We used it for the entire exterior and interior of the house with no issues. We are about to use it again for painting a shed! Good luck!!
Holes need to be wider, they were buried too deep and the you should have taken them out of their burlap sacks.
Thanks. They are doing great.

I like how she says "We Are Going To Plants Them" the look in his face was had me laughing 😂😂
Looks great. Doing mine tomorrow!
Thanks! Good luck tomorrow!
That’s not tuck pointing, that’s called repointing
Thanks
Shutters
It is cool to get up there on the ski lift
I just went here
Wet the cracks before grinding, it really cuts down on the dust
Great tip! Thanks!
How far the fence did you plant the trees.? How many inches
64”
Good job
I’m also renovating a basement. You apparently did a great job waterproofing, which is critical. One “tip” I can offer is don’t be afraid to tint. (I’d have darkened the light gray paint to hide the dark gray patches.)
Granted, the gray may have already been “dark enough” compared to other options.
Thanks for the tip.
6… I did 18- 7 footers by hand on a Saturday.
Awesome!
It looks good ... but those horizontal supports are going to eventually sag and get out of level with one another ... then your kayaks will warp.
You are definitely correct. We completely forgot to add support. We have now and it is still holding up great.
This was a lot of work.
It was but we do like them. Especially now that they are filling out.
@@chris_laura I know a good type bamboo. If u want some more screening
One bamboo plant. And be done.
We did talk about that recently 😂
@@chris_laura a good running bamboo. That is outstanding. For screen. Yellow groove.
Yes to the shutters, but gray paint would have made it pop on the bright background.
Shutters for sure!
Definitely shutters, looks beautiful!😊😊
Hey I live in Shepherdsville, KY and I do landscaping. I’m learning from you on how long it may take and how hard it may be for two people. This will be my first time planting tall evergreens for a client. They also want privacy from their neighbors and some protection from heat on one side of their house.
How are the trees making out now after a year? Did the nursery say it’s OK to bury with burlap? I have mine with burlap and not sure if landscaper knows what he’s doing or was just lazy, but he said It is biodegradable and the roots will be able to grow still. Have 17 of them so hopefully all is well 🙏🏻
They are doing great! Our nursery said we could leave it or cut it off. Main thing was just to cut the ropes so it doesn’t restrict growth. We haven’t had an issue with ours thankfully. Best of luck!
Shutters.
