Did you try lacing the back from bottom to the top? That way you can pull the bottom tight but leave more room to the top so it's not so tight

Grommets are 2 piece, and eyelets are 1 piece. The boning you used is called "zip ties". It turned out really cute. Practice wearing your corset a little bit everyday and you will get used to it. Try wearing a peasant blouse under it.
