Giant Chicken Combo Attack - ProductionCrate VFX contest July entry

This is my entry for the July ProductionCrate contest. I used both ProductionCrate.com sound effects and Visual assets, although admittedly the visuals are subtle. I used dust and earth footage for my landing. The giant bird was modelled and animated entirely in Blender. www.productioncrate.com

An Apple a Day is a five-minute short based on a series of random prompts, including the use of stairs, an umbrella as a prop, and the title "An Apple a Day." Despite these constraints, our group was able to create a charming and whimsical film that explores an unusual conflict between a man and a worm living inside an apple. Nah, parasites from those snails bruv. We’re meant to be on dry land; we’re not amphibians
This is great!
Great Vid ! Maybe Light wrap will help a bit ? I don't know the edges seems a bit harsh, Red Giant super comp have some really nice Effects for edge blending like volumetric rays, edge blend , light wrap, black levels. May be give them a shot ?
The video was fun, really enjoyed👏
For your green screen composite learn about light wraping...it ll help blend your shots to the back ground. It takes away the cut out feel.. Also try and match your blacks and whites in the green screen back ground. Holding up colour ref cards are good way to help match colours in green footage to the cgi. You can get light wrap plug ins for AE..not sure how you can do it in blender.

I’m going to save you a lot of time for the future: Use an AI image generator to create your “shot” or scene. Then use Photoshop’s generative fill on that image to tweak details in the image (clothing etc). Then upload that image to an AI image-to-video generator and voila! You now have a 10 second video clip of your imagined scene, all done in about 20 minutes.
Maybe adding some volumetric fog in Blender would’ve helped to sell the “at sea” effect. Also, I think you were far too worried about the lighting; you can easily flatten the lighting in your editing program afterwards - Davinci Resolve is amazing for this. I think the chroma keying is where the effect was let down unfortunately
Fun to watch! Thanks!
Keep up the great work Jasper….the future is bright and it’s not green screen 😜
@@RichInHD7 thanks Rich!
Another excellent video Jasper👏👏 As usual!
@@pete1kirk Thanks Pete!
That looks quite good and I feel as if something great is going to come soon. PS: Hope none of you have green eyes!
Very good

@@Faneva_Jorah thank you!
nice
yo this video was incredible, 10/10!
mate your first huge mistake was YELLOW CROSS MARKERS OPS.. gonna take so much time removing them from hair and stuff !!! yikes
@@poopiecon1489 thankfully the yellow keyed out fine!
@@jasperpagan2237 Always you a darker green color for the tracking markers , if you need help with keying and that weird black edge let me know :)
Well done, my guy... Well done!
❤ love 😊
honestly you did a pretty good job, though i’m not sure i understand why the others weren’t down for shooting outside, it does look way more realistic lighting-wise. also the focal length of the second shot made the edges blurry, which didn’t help sell the effect either. but the colour grading and overall the compositing was better on the second shot
@@btlnono_ that is so much better than our own analysis, thank you!
Can the shapes then be transferred over to similar shaped characters quite easily?
1:07 Oh Lalla, the place you're sitting in is so awesome😍! And the wind, oh hoo! btw great work, and you lizard character looks so funny :D Your crab work in cube challenge was amazing!
I just started using this ap with an app called Face it (Cost me like 100$) but it seems to automate the face shape key process which saved me a ton of time
um, wow! fair play, think you just helped define a new part of my pipeline! also you can unlock the app and dont have to subscribe now luckily
Thank you so very much for sharing this.
oh shoot! you're the giant crab guy! no wonder! definitely can't wait to see your new stuff now then!
i enjoyed this! awesome video!
Appreciate the content but this is not concept art. Concept artists are designers who use design principles (contrast, emphasis, repetition etc...) in combination with a specific domain knowledge (characters, creatures, architecture, vehicle, clothing etc...) and tecnical knowledge (either drawing, painting, photobashing, 3d or a combination of the previous) to communicate and iterate on an idea. This is more some form of previz as someone else in the comment already said.
That's a pretty creative way to use create concept art. Typically you just see it in 2d, but I love the depth you got here by making it in 3d. I'll have to try this on my future projects. Looking forward to see more about this film!
super cool video dude well done!!
step 1: get a 3D photo scan of this guys brother Otto
dont add music its painful
Amazing 👍🏻
Now just fyi this is not Concept art, it’s at best a fancy Previs without the actual concept art before, 90% of Concept art is focusing on design, for example the Boat the characters, clothing, water fx ect. Wich after having found the right designs you compose into a keyframe, and present variants of the Keyframe choose the one you like the most and THEN you do the previs, and after that you shoot it
Amazing video. Pure talent♥️
nice video bro!
Dope!
this is soooo cool
I love this whole approach! I hope you're video is blessed by the algorithm!
This was cool, me likey likey
Thank you Mr FatBowels.
Hi Jasper, thank you for your videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks KaLong!
only 3hr!!???
great video!!
Cheers Liam!
Super cool to see this sort of workflow and behind the scenes. I do wonder, is this how much work you'd put into all your concept art?
Thank you! It depends on the image, but if I don't model anything, I usually do my work within a couple of hours. Its really all just blocking and figuring out the lighting.
Pretty cool
Can you only do this with one mesh? I noticed you sculpted the blink instead of manipulating the existing eyelid meshes to make it blink
yeah no this sucks the motion capture app isn't available for me
thanks man
This is an incredible tutorial man, can't wait to try this out
