I will be producing blogs and videos to share online for others to see and possibly go visit. Also general chat and ramblings about running a bike on a fairly tight income to a budget and how to manage everyday riding and maintenance especially through the winter months and to share costs and tips I have learnt along the way.

Cherhill white horse first cut in 1780
I was meant to change my oil but my sump bolt crush washer has not arrived{its taken way to long to get here} so we decided to to to Cherhill white horse in Calne Wiltshire, a fairly steep walk and pretty windy but oh those views, well worth it and so I thought I would take you guys along with me. The white horse was cut in 1780 by Dr Christopher Alsop he was called the mad doctor as he shouted his instructions on how to make the horse through a megaphone further way down the valley. The horse has been scoured many times and then new chalk and stone has been dressed to brighten it up again.

Evening guys, So i have been trying different positions on my lid with the new camera, this is what I think is a good riders view, I will also post a video with the camera on top of the helmet but I don't think its as good, plus lots of noise but its a good view point. I was once a riding instructor and have been out with a couple of new riders lately and they are asking about filtering which i...

Anyway two questions I get ask more than you would think, 1, how do ? store my bike through winter when still riding, without a garage? 2, Friends ask about there disc going rusty after a couple of days of not using there bike, is this an issue? Heyup , I've had lots of Oxford bike covers , the only one that actually works and lasts is the protex stretch .Tommy Tickle
Wilshire is a lovely part of the country, you're lucky to have all that beauty on your doorstep.
@@BatterseaBill yes absolutely, I really love the English countryside
Many car drivers study the Highway Code in search for a definition of "filtering". It's not there! The action of "Filtering" is not defined in the Highway Code! It says where filtering is allowed in several paragraphs but filtering is not defined. How are car drivers supposed to know what filtering is?
@@fuglbird yes very true, I also think this is why it's something as motorcyclist we have to be very confident and aware of the dangers as a lot of motorist get annoyed and think bikes are pushing in, so I also say thank you if someone moves over and just try to be considerate
My first bike also an A100, lusted after the sporty GP100! Really enjoyed your ride with a bit of chat 👍
@@edjones3390 I had a gp100 in blue, I ran out of two stroke oil and bored it out to a 125 loved that bike.
bike tents are quite good if you don’t have a shed or garage. I used one in Switzerland when we lived there, very useful and better than a simple cover.
@@tenbear5 good idea I never though of that
@@thewiltshirerider01 I have a frame going, all you would need is the canvas. I have a garage i store mine in.
@@tenbear5Thank you for the offer , I'm actually looking at building a wooden shelter off the side of the house so that should be a fun video 😂
Also another tip: Get a Japanese bike , Honda or Yamaha. Legendary reliability.
Homda almost put me off biking for life back in the day of chocolate box cams, no thanks!
@tenbear5 huh ?!
Hello, what were you riding before this big bike,? Regards from durham
@@davidheron1884 Hi , well I have been riding for a long time and had many bikes, I had a nt 650 vtwin before this one I bought it for £100 as a run around, before that a mix of vfrs 800 and 750s I do love engines but I have also had two strokes (another favourite) so a mixed bag really. Do you ride?

Hey dude, i don't think im far from you. I understand there are some bike thieves operating in the area. I had my nicked a few months ago and the Law have told me there have been many others and these guys are bold. I now do not keep my bike in the same place and where it is kept is locked up and the bike itself has 2 posh (very expensive) U locks, one on each wheel! You may want to spread the word around your crew. Kind regards.
@@ratsstuff1952 thanks for the heads up, sorry about you bike getting stolen did you get it back. Yes I use a couple of good quality u locks and keep the car in the way of the bike .
@thewiltshirerider01 Alas no mate. It has gone. I never thought, out here, bike thieves would be so bold. The bike wasn't worth much to any one but me. I guess I was just nieve. Anyway, I don't keep my new bike at home anymore and I have invested in some good security.
@@ratsstuff1952 trouble is now they get stolen for parts and .most the guys I know say the police haven't got the time to chase it, yes they are coming out here more now, I think it's because we are close to the M5 and also very little police presents here
What’s happened no sound?
@@paulkimber1287 not sure on that one it plays okay for me , sorry about that
@ sorry it was my bad, not sure what happened but tried again and all ok
I’ve heard you can buy a brass Downpipe gasket which replaces the crush gasket apparently it never needs to be changed again only thing is it’s about £40 😩
@@ProfileP246 yes I have seen those but I bought mine ages ago so I think I need to use them 😁
Happy days the one I’ve been waiting for and I’ll be watching the exhaust one also for my next job👍
@@ProfileP246 yes although I don't need to take off the rear cylinder one or at least I hope I don't, I've started soaking them in wd40 to help release the studs 🤞
Camera seems to produce good results, sound is crystal clear. My old Lexmoto relies on rust to prevent parts falling off😅
Or you could buy a car 😂😂
Where's the fun in that 😅
I've had 2 Oxford covers, they're good but beware when using the clip underneath the exhaust that the exhaust will burn the strap. So I use a bungee cord to wrap around the middle. You can thank me later 😅
Yep been there done that, I do the same 😂
I feel for you. When I had 2 bikes, (I was selling one and shed was needed for something else), I got one of these covers with a frame that folds up to get bike out. I got a cheap pair of concrete lintols to bolt the thing to the deck, and there are side vents that let the damp get out. It worked out very well. I think it would work better than the oxford cover. The cover is sat in the small shed now, wrapped up, as current bike in the larger shed. 🙂 I live by the coast, 10 meters away, quick spray with fresh water, especially in the winter. Oh and such a lovely motorcycle, in the go cooler blue.
Can you send me the name of the cover ? Wind and salt water not a great combination
I have on occasion used plastic bags over my socks to keep my feet dry in inclement weather Works pretty well
@@nickmonkey284 yes black bags was my go too
Good tip that Cheers
@@nickmonkey284 it was through sheer struggle of doing it in the rain one day I just thought I would give it a go and hey presto struggled over, it the small victories in life 🤣
Greece or not greese that is the question.
I find ACF50 is really good for keeping brake discs from rusting I'm joking DO NOT PUT ACF ON YOUR DISCS
Great stuff Andy I have the same bike in candy red and silver, I really like the colour of your wheels do you know the colour code?
@@ProfileP246 it hammered gold hamerit. It's £11.50 off eBay for 250ml, it's quick drying and 8 year guarantee, I did it as I didn't want to have to strip the wheels and pay loads to get them painted. The grey colour was looking old and tired, I really cleaned them well and wiped them off with white spirit, I used a soft brush and love the way they look, I find the gold they use on most bikes is too yellow.
@@thewiltshirerider01 Brilliant! I don’t want to pay the quids for sandblasting etc so this is perfect thanks!
@@ProfileP246 it works really well I would advise two coats but give it a couple of days between each to allow it to harden off, I have a video of the result on my channel
Some great tips there, that camera seems pretty good, new sub here
@@tomstc thanks, good to have you on board
Personally discs are discs either on a bike or car . Don't clean the wifes MX5s nor my Enfields.
On the disc point, I remember when Italian bikes used iron discs which went red rusty in 24 hours stood, which as you mentioned disappeared as soon as it was used 😊
@@kevindarkstar I think that some of the materials used in manufacturing now are not as good so it's going back to those sort of times especially on budget vehicles .
but they worked
@paulmckell7726 certainly did 😊
Brilliant mate! How did you know the wheel bearing was bad? I’m getting a slight whine from the front and I’m not sure if it’s the tyre or bearing. At least I know how to tackle the bearing now. Thanks for showing us how to. Tell the missus top camera work btw 👍
@@robcrawford9657 if you put your hands opposite on each side of the wheel (top and bottom or either side) then try to move the wheel side to side and if you feel a small amount of movement sideways chances are they are worn, also on the front it started feeling a bit vague going into round about, so it was either headstock or wheel bearings. Glad you find it useful, I now have my new omaze action 3 camera and microphones, I will start more videos next week, away this week.
Found you from Facebook, looking forward to your videos. Looking good so far 👍
@@robcrawford9657 brilliant , well it will be oil and filter next plus some other bits I have planned, hope you enjoy it 👍
thanks for the update As a Varadero owner i find your content very informative. Regards Gary
Thank you for this video. What Is your advantage RPM'S you coast around on? Mine does not like low RPM'S
Hi @Craigcoleman1020 in general they don't really like low revs I do let mine warm up before trying any low rev manoeuvres as they can splutter and cut out usually on a tight turn, I find mine best to keep in a lower gear and always have the engine pulling slightly but usually I find myself around the 3000rpm range and that seems to be comfortable that's on a v5 injected model, hope this helps
@andyjdaviestjk thank you for the reply. Yes mine splutters at love RPM'S. what about your first to second gear shift? Mine is clunky AF. But all the other gears are fine. Is there a technique? I've only had this bike for a week. My drive chain is on the looser side. Could that affect first to second 🤔
@@craigcoleman1020 yes they give the typical honda clunk between 1st and second but have a great gear box, I would suggest an oil and filter change if you don't know when it was changed, these use semi synthetic oil as it is a heavy old engine and fully synthetic is a bit thin when they are hot, also yes the chain slack will play a big part, I always adjust mine on the side stand as if you do it on the main stand when you lower the bike it tightens but you probably know that already
Couldn't agree more! This thing made me frawn of pleasure, overtaking "all" the other tourists at Lofoten this summer LOL ruclips.net/video/dZPKZ8irzRI/видео.html
Hehehe :D
It must be 👍
Completely agree with you about the honda switchgear - much more satisfying to use IMO than circuit pad types which can go wrong often. Varadero is a much overlooked adventure bike in favour of more fashionable gs.
@@timrains5011 yes it's getting on a bit now but at least you can look after it yourself, as with the new bikes there no chance
thanks for the advice i watch all your videos varadero is great bikes love mine
Glad you like them!
Great Video, keep up the good work and i hope you get more recognition
Thanks, you too!
Can I ask you about the temperature on your bike? My fuel injected model ('03) temperature gauge shoots up to half way real soon from cold (three bars) and just stays there. The cooling fan comes on soon when in traffic. With my Mk1 ('99) carb bike on the other hand, the gauge, which is different, goes to about a quarter of the way up and stays there. If I sit in traffic a good while, the gauge will creep up to halfway and the fan will come on. Both bikes have had recent coolant changes and I'm pretty sure that there are no air pockets in the cooling systems of both bikes. The fuel-injected is obviously running hotter than the carb bike. I was wondering about your bike? Where does your temp gauge sit when riding around, and how soon does the fan come on when in traffic?
Hi, yes mine sits at 3 bars all day long no matter the weather and the fan kicks in now and again in traffic but it's been completely fine. Always did it.
@@thewiltshirerider01 Thank you for the reply. Good to know that 'three-bars' seems to be the norm.
Great! Thanks from Brazil. This bike is rock!
Glad you like it!
Thanks for the videos you make very interesting also because I have the bike the same as yours if the braided pipes are ok if you can tell me where hau found them Sincerely waiting for you to make the video ✌
Hel brakes you can send off measurements and they make them, it was £78 for a pair of rear hoses, genuine ones are around £150 each for standard hoses. Video is coming soon of the fitment
Very useful trick. Thank you for sharing with us 💪🏼 I'll use it on my Varadero
Is that Swindon?
It's laycock and Corsham lovely part of the uk
Спасибо за видео. Всегда смотрю. Из России с любовью!
Love my 09 model but with a 31 inch inseam i run the risk of dropping it every time i put my foot down. Roads with a camber or gravel at the side are especially tricky.
Yes, it does make you plan your route more, I'm always conscious of the road camber and gravel but luckily not had too many issues,
Hope ya doing well. 🏴
Yep all good, loving the sun makes a change from riding on the rain 🌧️
Hello, mine also ticking mostly from 3000 to 4000 rpms when the engine warms but not every time. I replaced tensioners and nothing changed.
It could be a clutch rattle as Honda's are well known for a clutch rattle if it disappears when you pull the clutch in that could be it.
@@thewiltshirerider01 when i pull the clutch is the same. Thanks
Good review that covers quite a lot of daily driver questions!👍 Currently I'm owning a Transalp 600v, you could call it the little sister of the 'Dero. Where there is a lot similar to the Dero, I'm very curious if the extra power and added weight is a plus or a minus compared to the TA. I've kinda out grown the TA and am looking to get something similar but with more power. Would a newer Africa Twin not out perform the Dero in any way? I'm curious of your thoughts and thinkings.. Thanks in advance!
Hi, yes I like the transalps and yes you definitely will feel a difference in the power especially two up or just at longer distance more power on tap so you can just cruise on the same gear if you want to and it will sit at high speed all day long, the dero is heavy but you only really notice when pushing it around, the Africa twin is only slightly lighter by a few lbs, and the power is almost the same. I have not ridden an Africa twin but have sat on a few and they are about the same height but feel easier because of the narrow seat, New bikes scare me with the amount of electronics and as always I have heard lots of horror stories about the failures. The dero is a reliable bike and the new versions are great I think the latest model is a 2019 model, it depends on what you are going to use it for, I use mine every day for commuting and go touring around the UK, I would never take it off road as my skill level is zero off road and it's heavy but I would probably be the same with the africa twin. It looks like a good bike and some of the guys I know like them but they always sell bikes after a couple of years so again not sure on a high mileage one with all the electrics how they age. My dero has now got 61,000 miles and apart from serviceable items never misses a beat, you get a lot of bike for your money and you can also fix a lot yourself with basic tools and skill level, like myself, hope this helps 👍
what kind of muffler on a motorcycle? tuning?
Ah okay they are F1 stainless exhaust cans
@@thewiltshirerider01 I have GPRs on the same motorcycle, but they are quite loud, I had to make a db killer....
@@Gor7760 yes the F1 have a removable baffle but I don't feel the need to take them out as it's a nice noise with them in

Да. А что за выхлоп стоит?
Sorry I cannot translate what you have said
On the topic of fuel efficiency, that would depend on how you ride it . 150 miles for a tank before the yellow light comes on. I ride.......
That's a low mileage, my average is usually 200 miles at least even if I tank it everywhere, is yours a carb or dual injection ?
Fook me Dude, these bikes do 120 mph why would you ever consider a sports bike ? ruclips.net/video/RT1GeOUGC_w/видео.html
That’s exactly my dilemma. In an ideal world I’d have more than one bike, but alas no. Can’t decide on a sports tourer or adv as my next bike 🤔
Yep same here but I realised that my main commute is around 20 miles a day and it's a mix of roads and also now I sway on the side of comfort, I love sports bikes but I get far more use out of my dero and also the advantage of an upright riding position is lovely plus being able to load up the bike for weekends away and still ride relatively fast and in comfort. I have dropped it twice over the years and no damage and found it knocked over onto a hedge and again no damage and I'm sure a sports bike would have cost a lot more in those scenarios. I love vfrs and sports bikes and never thought of this style of bike but now I would not go back, good luck with your decision, let me know how you decided.
I have a Varadero XL 125, 05' carb model, it smashers through potholes and speedbumps that used to terrify me on my Speedfight2 and Vision 110 scooters.
