Perfect, exactly what I needed
Thanks for the tutorial, configured the same on my HA instance
Great takes! Great video! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
So i followed you guide (but install on proxmox). I connected the stick (zwave and zigbee) from the RPI, install from backup and the sticks are not working. Any idea?
If running HA as a VM with Proxmox I believe you must enable a pass through for HA to see those controllers. I do not run HA as a VM, so cannot provide advice based on direct experience. Hope the rest of the guide was helpful.
How do I just hire someone for this
If you're looking for someone to design and setup home automation and networking solutions for your home, you can search locally for a low voltage installer. Alternatively, feel free to contact me via the email in the channel description. Thanks for watching!
Can you still stream your camera to Apple TV? And if so through which integration? Thanks.
Yes. In my case, I am using Ubiquiti UniFi cameras. Each camera is added to Home Assistant via the UniFi Protect integration. Additionally, I expose all of my Home Assistant devices to Apple Home via the HomeKit Bridge integration. This makes the cameras visible on my Apple TV 4K, where I can view live streams and get doorbell ringing notifications, all on the TV.
Thanks Michael! Would you recommend having one in each room? Or is one good enough for the whole house? Or one per floor? And are the replacement filters purchased directly from the company? Any idea how often that would need to be replaced in a normal household? Sorry for all the questions. Excellent video!
Thanks! It can purify a house up to 1,800 sq. ft. in one hour. Depending on your home size, you may need more than one. There is a mesh gauze around the filter that can be detached for washing or vacuuming. The HEPA filter itself should be replaced every 6-12 months, and the life expectancy is shown in the SwitchBot app, but I do not have information on the replacement cost or where to purchase (I'll try to find out).
You can purchase replacement HEPA Filters here: amzn.to/40OFOXK
If I saw correctly the air purifier table can only get into the matter ecosystems via their hub 2 or hub mini with matter not directly from the device itself? Great video!
Yes, you are correct, and thanks!

This is my home media server for jellyfin along with the home assistant. I am glad it's getting some love
To stop a long running response, just say Stop. Then say the wake word for your next prompt. No magic here. In my experience it responds to Stop immediately and no need to say the wake word/phrase twice.
Glad to hear you have had a positive experience. That has not consistently been my case.
Great video - I have my Shelly relays all on my NoT network with NTP configured as in this video. When I go into the Shelly to set the SNTP server address as an ip not name it cannot get the time still, anyone know why?
I do not have Shelly relays at the moment. Hope you get it sorted out.
Do you still use and recommend this tablet?
Yes and yes, though for something a bit snappier I also recommend this: amzn.to/42iWO9p
Great video! Happy to see HA widgets and controls 🥳
Thanks! 😀
I cant find anything that specifically says under settings "advanced restart" what am i missing?
At the time of recording on a Beelink S12 Pro mini PC with Windows 11, I had to go to Settings > Security > and click on Advanced Restart.
I don't have Home Assistant, SmartThings, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, or Alexa, don't have any kind of smart home server or service. Can I still somehow use Rat Gdo to control my garage door remotely?
ratgdo does not have its own app, and must be paired with Home Assistant or HomeKit for remote operation.
@@michaelsleen Ok, that's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll have to start thinking about doing some smart home stuff. Thanks for your reply.

I love using widgets, so much faster
Move the mic away from your throat
Noted
Ideally, from a safety perspective, a garage door is only operated remotely from a screen that has the garage video feed as the background. I'm glad you pointed out Home Assistant's casual way of implementing garage door without a confirmation. This isn't safe. Garage door is traditionally a toggle because the physical switch is located where the operate is observing the door status. I feel the minimum should be no operation without confirmation, and a display of current status (open or closed).
👉 Let me know how you’re using widgets to control your smart home.
We are looking for a battery operated heat sensor that we can monitor the temperature in our pump room from our cottage to our home. We recently had a baseboard fail, freezing our system causing over 1k in damage. Can you please let us know which sensor would work best in this situation. We only need it to monitor the heat, thanks
If you’re looking to monitor the air temperature in that room, any of my top picks mentioned in the final thoughts section of the video should work. The cottage would need to have a Zigbee or Z-Wave network to work with my top picks.
Hi, great video. Got 95% of it working apart from sending the image. it must be the directory but I cant work it out. Also it doesnt show me the full notification as has ... at the end and when i tap the notification it just takes me to my homeassistant page. Can anyone ofer advice on the image and ... thankyou
Are you using iOS or Android? I've seen some folks with Android struggle a bit more. Go to the folder in your config where you are trying to save the image snapshot, and see if the image is actually being saved there. If it is and you're still not seeing it in the notification sent to your phone, another option is to write image_file as /media/images/snapshot.jpg and filename as /media/images/snapshot.jpg and image as /media/local/images/snapshot.jpg.
@@michaelsleen Thank Michael, I'm using IOS. when i go into traces and the last step I see the following which doesnt look correct after .jpg, is that right? Great video Michael I just got mine today!
Curious to hear your thoughts!
@@michaelsleen Yep I will be producing my video soon!
You lost me at Apple :D
😞
And for the record i do currently use an iPhone :)
I did mine today and it when flawless, thanks to your video. Just have 1 question, can i still use my mini pc for other stuff, like downloading Reolink app so can project my cameras on the tv
Glad it went well! I’m unfamiliar with projecting the Reolink app on a TV.
@ no I was wondering if I can download they Reolink app onto the mini pc, after I installed home assistant on it
Great video! But what if you don`t have an iPhone and still want an img og video stream on your Apple TV? Can this be done with a Ring video doorbell?
One option is to run Homebridge on a server with the Ring plug-in installed.
Theres a notification blueprint that works on google TV no need for a tablet.
I mean it depends on your personal setup and what you want. We have on TV and it's in the basement, and we have a wall-mounted tablet on the main floor in the kitchen, so seeing a notification on both is nice for us.
Great video, I own a Google TV and the way I did it was streaming the doorbell camera to the TV for a min and then stop the stream. Not picture in picture tho. Sharing the automation alias: Front Camera on TV description: "" triggers: - trigger: state entity_id: - binary_sensor.front_door_person_detected to: "on" conditions: [] actions: - if: - condition: state entity_id: media_player.sony_xr_75x90k state: "on" then: - action: camera.play_stream data: format: hls media_player: media_player.basement_tv_2 target: entity_id: camera.front_doorbell_wifi_main - delay: hours: 0 minutes: 1 seconds: 0 milliseconds: 0 - action: media_player.media_stop metadata: {} data: {} target: entity_id: media_player.basement_tv_2 mode: single
Great video! I successfully set mine up by following your video. thank you so much for this!
I'd be very intested in how to do this on an Nvidia Shield or similar Android TV device.
Hi, check my comment, maybe it will help you.
Another person commented with their solution for Android TVs.
As someone who is new to even the research phase of this solution, there is a fundamental question I have never seen answered regarding the Apple TV functionality. Assuming the correct device compatibility and configuration, does the pop-up functionality work for every single thing you could conceivably be doing with the Apple TV? In other words, is there anything you could be doing on the Apple TV which would suppress a doorbell pop-up overlay?
I have the native Apple TV video pop up feature enabled (no Home Assistant work around) and if turned on in the Apple TV system settings, the notification pop up appears no matter what you are doing on the Apple TV. I have never found and instance that it doesn't. Maybe when playing a full screen game? That's the only. thing I dont ever use my Apple TV for so I can't answer for that scenario.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I kind of assumed I would have seen at least some mention somewhere if the pop-up behavior was conditional in any manner. It's good to hear a current user explicitly state that it isn't.
It pops up every time for us when watching the TV.
A couple of exotic things to try in home assistant. The integration start/stop function may work to disable the doorbell homekit on the HA side. The doorbell would still work for the non-homekit functions. Another would be to temporarily block the AppleTV from the homekit hub by a fire wall rule This can be done in unifi integration if one is using unifi networking. Of course you would need to have more than one homekit hub enabled.
I'm not sure why I would show a just still image on the tablet. I show the webRTC video feed. This can be set up to talk to the person at the door. I also check to see if the tablet is in use before taking over the screen to show the door video feed. In addition to the doorbell feed , a tablet can be set up to show a person or car outside under certain conditions, assuming the camera system has object detection. Also, triggering on "person at front door" instead of the doorbell button push is an option for people who have camera systems with person detection. This trigger shows not only the doorbell pushers but also delivery people and weirdos.
I’m using it to generate an image when a person rings the doorbell. I don’t need to watch the person moving in real time, just an image to see who it is. But I can see why some may want the live video feed.
@@michaelsleen Where I live UPS/FEDEX ring the bell. If they wait, they want a signature. Aslo, another way to handle the doorbell is conditional trigger in the dashboard itself that displays video without server side intervention. The video display space doesn't show when the trigger conditions aren't met. So many options in HA.
If I mounted a 2.1amp usb socket adjacent to the blind would this be enough to power the product instead of using battery/ solar?
Just got to the bit where you say powered options are available. I’ll see if they are available in my location.
Glad you got it sorted, and thanks for watching.
Thats an excellent review. On spot.
Useless video. Didn’t show how to INSTALL zwave on home assistant.
Plug your Z-Wave dongle into the computer running Home Assistant, and the dongle should be recognized automatically and ask if you want to set-up the Z-Wave JS add-on, and click Submit.
Perhaps change the title of the video to remove 'and Video'. I just watched to find out how to use stream analyser, only to find that you only cover snapshots.
Thanks for the feedback. The video covers various use cases, but the hands-on example focuses on snapshots as you mention.
Dumb question, why not just have the senser hooked up to send a notification when the sensor stops vibrating AND the door must be shut.?
I see no need for the door must be shut condition.
@@michaelsleen Wont it send a fault alert from the vibrator when you transfer from washer to dryer without the door sensor? The door sensor will confirm to the vibrator that the washer is actually doing somthing.
You're absolutely going to need a door sensor. This will avoid false alarms when transferring clothes from the washer to the dryer
@ No, this doesn’t happen. The automation trigger requires the dryer to be vibrating for at least three consecutive minutes. I’ve never had such a false detection in almost three years of running this automation.
@@michaelsleen oh no I'm talking about using this on the washer, makes things way more easier for people without HA. 2 things must happen no vibration for 30 secs. and door must be closed. This is sent to a smartthings LED light for the notification.
Hi ya the response variable is coming up as not defined like its either not setting or not able to read it in the next action
Is it come up that way when you click run action in the automation editor? If so, that makes sense.
@michaelsleen even when I run the whole automation
When you say "run the whole automation," do you mean clicking run actions in the editor, or do you mean when you walk in front of the camera triggering the motion even?
@@michaelsleenboth
Able to drop your automation YAML here using Pastebin?
Ive had mine for like 15 minutes and I'm ready to refund it, absolutely horrific.
Sorry it’s been so rough.
Then you're doing something wrong. How is it so bad for you, yet I've had no problems?
@@fretbuzzly even on the video he said its name like 5 times in a row.........
Oh, I didn't know that ratgdo was inspired by RATM. That makes so much sense now 😅
I have used OurGroceries for years… and it works perfectly and have all the features you would wish for in a shopping list app, even support for Apple Watch, WearOS and … cross Android / Apple support and the mobile app even works on MacOS and ChromeOS. However, the voice integration have not, at least not yet, been working for me since only English have been working and that is really hard to use, as I’m speaking Danish. However, since the App now supports Danish and a lot of other languages, I will try again with voice and see how it works, either through Google Nest or Siri. Thanks @Michael Leen for a great walkthrough of the various options. 6:37
Hope it works well for you in Danish, and thanks!
@@michaelsleen Actually I just tested and it seems that either the App or Siri has improved, as I was able to ask Siri to add any item to the shopping list. Great ! :) So now I might need to look into the OurGroceries integration to HA 😀
I have to ask Google twice every time to set a scene. “Lamp is offline”. “Lamp is on”. Resetting all my lights isn't an option.
I haven’t had that issue, but I also don’t use Google.
@@michaelsleen I've had Apple HomePod mini's next to my Google minis (or whatever google calls it) and they've both had issues recently. I'm trying to downsize my smart home. I mostly use lights and google for the TV off/on rarely. The google issue is all over the web, but no real resolutions except shaming the user's internet/network. It's throughout the house and it seems google doesn't stay connected while not in use somehow. I"ll troubleshoot when I have more time(not that I want to)(The point of smart homes etc)
That's annoying. Sorry to hear that.
@@michaelsleen No worries. I'm gonna try my Apple Minis one more time before I sell'm just in case.

Congrats on getting solar, I think it was a wonderful idea. Additionally, it adds value to your house price when you are ready to sell it.
I always get excited about CES…. It seems like this year was basically just filled with strange / stupid gadgets that made an appearance and will be forgotten about by next week…
