Mae West meets The American Athletic Team (1978)
This all ties-in rather neatly with past & recent events... namely the birthdate of Mae West (August 17, 1893 - November 22, 1980) & the French pole-vaulter who lost the event, but ultimately "won" the Olympics!
(I think Mae West would have loved that along with all that pomp-n'-pee-pee-pageantry of the 2024 olympiads.)
As for Mae West, she was having trouble hearing (an earpiece hid-in-her-wig was feeding her cues) & also seeing. (through false eyelashes, presumably..)
All I can say is; I hope I can still walk & talk & still play a camped-up version of myself when I'm 83!
As for "Sextette" (1978)... it's so bad that it is exquisitely good. It's like a big-screen adaptaition of a 1970's TV-...

Recalling American composer & musician W. C. Handy (November 16, 1873 - March 28, 1958) as he performs his 1914 composition "Saint Louis Blues". He was 76 & blind but still manages a soulful rendition. As seen on Ed Sullivan's "Toast Of The Town" & originally transmitted on Sunday, December 18, 1949 on the CBS network. I did a bit of audio tweaking so (with headphones anyway) you can hear impro...

Wanted to share a Flintstones TV rarity you possibly never saw unless you're way under 60 & up way past your bedtime.... The cameo of Fred & Barney from "The New Alice in Wonderland" (or What's a Nice Kid like You Doing in a Place like This?) A true mid-century-modern re-boot to boot. Ending the day recalling Jane Withers (1926 - 2021). Here she is with Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards (1895 - 1971). These scenes were shot in 1939 for a film released the following year. This ties things up neatly as was reported at the time, upon Withers's first stage performance (at age three), she had impersonated "Ukulele Ike"! "Abe Lyman's Barn Dance" (1930) I thought it would be fun to extract the "hot" Abe Lyman footage from the Path'e film "Pardon My Gun" (1930) & turn it into a short! The reveiws are somewhat awful for the actual film, but I think people expecting a Western are a bit put off by the hot dance music & people expecting a musical are just left wondering... Well, it is a bit uneven. To be fair to it, ...

Thanks for posting this. I never heard of Hal Le Roy until very recently, when I saw his tapping in a short film. One of those that TCM channel puts on between movies. He is a superb tap dancer with suc a unique style. Not gimmicky because it's based on solid dance technique.

This cartoon entered the public domain in the United States in 1962, as United Artists failed to renew the copyright in time. This is also the last Harman-Ising short currently in the public domain. Every short from 1933-35 until "Hollywood Capers" remains under copyright. Works from 1933 will enter the public domain in 2029, 1934 in 2030, and 1935 in 2031.

Here, they play bad comedians and make it hilarious. This is an example of why they were groundbreaking: meta humor and awkward humor like this are staple goods today, but nobody else did it back then. And the old cliché that they all played the same character and had no personalities--it is obviously wrong. Harry Ritz in the middle was always the leader and the funny one with the faces and quircks; Al and Jimmy always looked the same like twins and were Harry's sidekicks.
