Finnbrough N gauge model railway - class 37 thrash! and some layout running session videos...
Not much work on the layout to video lately. But the 37 has had it's chip reblown with a sound file from Digitrains. It sounds way better now, so here's some footage along with some general layout running.
More progress soon hopefully!

    Nice video... I've found that for the final finish on the surface if you remove all the filler from your scraper then clean it in water, then just let the filler dry a tad then dip your scraper in water then drag it over the filler at a low angle it will make a smoother surface, you just need to keep cleaning the scraper in water, a lot like how a plasterer plasters a wall. If you do it like you did i find that you keep pulling the filler up that you've just put down.

    • @finnbroughngauge
      @finnbroughngauge 3 месяца назад

      Thanks James, never thought about using water! I did find I needed to have a clean scraper and aslong as it was spotless it wouldn't drag anything. Worst thing I found was the odd piece of ballast would find it's way on and cause a scrape!

    Hi , nice video and great advice😊👍🏼 I’ve been builddioramzs for a number of years but I’m new to railway modelling. I was surprised to see how you clean the tracks after laying down the product. I’ve been racking my brain trying to come up with a solution so I’ve taken courage from you! I’m also an N Gauge modeller 😊 Can I give you some ideas? Any of these pre-prepared products need diluted. They say ready to use but every one of them that I’ve used need diluted. 90% of them just need water thankfully 😊 Secondly, I felt your pain sanding everything down. I had to do this on a diorama that I’d nearly finished for a museum. Nothing was taking it down. I was ready to start again when my father came to visit me (I live in France). He is a railway modeller of 70 years. He saw my struggle and said « Why not build the surface up with plaster of Paris with white glue and water mixed? ». It bloody worked! Weathering, I use artists chalks from the local pound shop or ‘The Works’ type of place, scrape them down with a knife and apply them with an old brush. Old charcoal powder from the BBQ is good too. I’ve even used the pure carbon toothpaste powder too 😁 Oil paints are great for eating shades but a little more complicated to explain but the principle can be quite easy. The one thing I suggest investing in is a battery operated airbrush. You can pick them up for around £30 on Amazon. Smashing for lightly shading larger ground space like your concrete 😊 I’ll try to link you to an Armour Modeller called Nightshift here on RUclips. He is really at the top of his trade, a true artist, but explains everything so well. You have a lovely layout and I wish my layout was as near to what you have! All the best, Ian

    • @finnbroughngauge
      @finnbroughngauge 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks Ian! I've got myself one of those battery airbrushes but apart from painting my tarmac roads with it I've found it's a bit too overkill for N gauge. Especially weathering locos etc. I've got a big pack of various weathering powders from DCC concepts that I've used on my locos etc. also occasionally used a MIG ammo oil brusher. I'm gonna try and keep this concrete bit relatively clean but not too clean? Few oil spills and general muck kinda thing. Thanks for the comments about the layout, sure you will get there with yours!

      The little bits definitely do make a difference! It was a good show, bit busy at one point on the Saturday but some of the layouts were excellent.

      @finnbroughngauge we were there on the Sunday, and it got very busy around 11ish. There were some nice layouts there, and plenty of things to buy 🙂👍

    Glad to see that I am not on my own. Life is so busy that sometimes people forget the simplest things such as eating and food especially when they are engrossed in something they love or something that has a deadline that cannot be missed. Learn to slow down and enjoy yourself at your own pace and nobody else’s.🌺🤪🤪

      That's it! I filmed this then went on holiday for a week and completely forgot about it! Gotta prioritise sometimes!

      @@finnbroughngauge see, you were working against a deadline albeit one f your own making. The holiday had the desired effect, you totally switched off and forgot what you did before the break. It’s good to see the continuous development and your experiences keep going at your pace and always enjoy the things you do for yourself and your family. 🌺👍👍👍😸😸

    Couldn't you have maybe used a packing washer between the body and bogie.

      If I had a specific size washer possibly yes, it would have to be big enough to fit over the chassis spigot though and I didn't have anything available. The screws also aren't very long

      @finnbroughngauge You could cut one out of plaster card or a margarine tub lid if that makes things any easier.

    I like mixed freight , many businesses getting supplied , more freight on the rails . Good for the story of your railway
