My hubby went living all alone at the age of 20. His parents live alone in their family farm in Alberta. His brother and sister have their own house as well. They visit each other frequently but overstaying on someone else's private abode/territory is a huge NO. NO. NO. WHEN IN ROME, YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO DO WHAT ROMANS ARE DOING. I can understand the frustration of this young man lalo na it seems hirap silang lahat. Sana mag-tulungan sila na makaipon and maka-bukod na. Yes, may pakain and matitirhan, but it is modern day slavery to have someone work without a fair compensation. I don’t think clear sa kwento kung pinipilgilan ba nung brother yung tatay nya, but if yes, that is somewhat selfish sa part nung brother. Also if gusto nila mas madaling makabayad and masuklian ang utang na loob nung brother, then maybe they should work together para makaipon ng pambayad. I just hope both father and son can find a compromise that works for both of them.

I also grew up in a large, chaotic family, and I’d like to share my story. As the youngest of six siblings. We were a middle-class family, thanks to my father’s successful ironworks shop business. Like many families, we had our share of challenges. One of my brothers, the second eldest, learned our Father business and eventually became a competitor to my father. Despite being married, he continued living in our parents' house, and out of generosity, they gave him land to build his own home. Another brother, the fourth eldest, struggled with drug addiction and often caused trouble, adding stress to our parents. With their help, he eventually went to rehab. As our parents aged, my siblings started their own families, stayed in the family home, making it overcrowded, yet none of them contributed to household expenses. Growing up in this environment, I promised myself I’d build a better future. Even in their old age, my parents supported my education, and after college, I moved to Manila, found a job, and helped them financially. I later moved my own family to Singapore and was able to bring my parents there as well, but they eventually returned to the Philippines due to homesickness. After their return, my siblings began disputing over the land, even before our parents passed. They also didn’t help with their medical or funeral expenses, leaving it all to me, kasi daw ako naman ang naka Abroad 'that's kind of pinoy mindset', which took an emotional toll. My family and I eventually left Singapore and moved to Canada to recover from depression and start new Life. Since then, I havent returned to Philippines. Although I’m no longer in touch with my siblings directly, my wife helps me stay updated. Since then, two of my siblings have passed, and I’ve adopted and supported their children, ensuring they have what they need for their daily lives and education.

Life feels even heavier when you have ongoing Mortgage or Car payments, especially in today's world where permanent or stable jobs are rare. Job layoff has become common. We learned these uncertainties during the COVID-19 lockdown. Personally, happy life to be not Prisoner by our Possessions. And Living below our means is a more prudent approach.
