Bass covers of some of my favourite tracks.
Steeleye Span - Little Sir Hugh Bass Cover
Steeleye Span - Little Sir Hugh from Commoners Crown (Chrysalis 1975). The first Steeleye album I heard and an absolute belter, with some major favourites like Long Lankin and this tune.
Little Sir Hugh opens the album, and Rick Kemp's bass leads the way. He is my favourite bass player and this song is a good demonstration of why. The bass is high in the mix and bursts in with a growling melody before settling in to provide a rumbling, driving line for the rest of the song.
This cover is not note-perfect, but I think a fairly close interpretation.

Thanks, much appreciated. I don't have it tabbed out I'm afraid, but there may be the chords set out somewhere online. I learned it by ear, and because the bass is so nice and clear in the mix it really helped. Good luck!

Thanks! No pedals, it was recorded direct via a boss micro br80 interface. The bass is active, can't remember the settings sorry, just played with a heavy pick and as aggressively down picking as I could manage!

Appreciate that thanks! I don't have tabs I'm afraid, but if you search for Steeleye chords there is a steeleye.freeservers website where somebody has uploaded loads of chord charts. I worked out the bass line from the chords and by ear.

Hi, yes I do but in the Tab book I bought years ago. Somebody has uploaded Black Album isolated tracks on here. They really helped so I'd suggest giving that a go by ear maybe with some tabs available online.

Thanks I really appreciate that, and agreed it's a great bass line. I found the Black Album bass Tab book in a shop years ago so I can't send a link I'm afraid! If you search 'Don't Tread On Me bass' on here somebody has uploaded great isolated versions of the bass and drums together, they helped a lot too.
