Holy hell, Kim is gorgeous and to die for in this live rendition. Imagine having Kim Deal in your band then resent her and push her away because your ego can't take it that she's as talented as you. I love that Kim Deal despite being pigeonholed by Hipsters simps as their favourite manic pixie trope also refused to catter to that fantasy of playing up the cute alt-90's kitty by being salt of the earth and a grounded woman from Dayton, Ohio, warts and all.
I’m playing devil’s advocate here (I agree with your points and I love Kim), but around this time Charles and Kim basically stopped talking, and Kim would turn up late/not at all for her media stuff. I don’t think Charles was happy about her separating from the rest of the band in 1990 to go to do Pod. The rest of them flew to LA to prepare for Bossanova and Kim didn’t until a lot later on. It definitely put her out of step with the others especially Charles.
@@Bellocks1I agree (Two sides to every story indeed). I didn't mean to say that Kim was a pristine angel especially circa Bossanova/Trompe Le Monde. I think Kim's disengagement toward the end of Pixies first era was the product of this growing dissent festering beforend. At that point, she was already in mode "Fuck the Black Francis/Pixies, I'm gonna focused on my own band The Breeders". Breeders getting more successful than The Pixies in NA was the straw that broke the camel back.
@@deadstar44 Tbf I used to be heavily on Kim’s side, but when looking into it, Kim could be no Angel either - hence the gap between The Amps and then Title TK, Kim went through quite a lot of musicians, and developed a reputation as a bit of a taskmaster. Charles has a bit of a weird edge to him, a little bit passive aggressive, but quite non communicative over it. Watching the Pixies reunion documentary, it was clear that old wounds hadn’t healed, and after the original optimism of the whole thing they really still didn’t like each other. Then again, we only see what the cameras got.
@@Bellocks1 I agree, plus she just stopped being into it around this time which was still not that long after the band really got to their height. Can you imagine the songs we would have if she was more involved and "into it" for at least another three or four years? I'm with Charles, I would have absolutely been frustrated too.
The Pixies are such a amazing and inspiring band for ages to come but they are also probably by far one of the most dysfunctional bands you'll ever come across. Its really sad and a real shame there good talent has gone to waste they could have gone so much further with there music. Because they cant get past there egos and selflessness they will rot from the inside out no matter how long they try to keep the band together
Nimrod s son, a song about a man discovering he is the result of an incestuous relationship plays immediately after Dave's dad is revealed to be circling the drain. Glaring oversight or tasteless commentary from documentarys producers?
This is cool and all, but I hate seeing a band that was so ferocious and energetic and cool become somewhat neutered and dull. I know that they were always pretty ordinary and the music was center stage, but they always had a wild look in their eyes(cocaine) that's gone.
So sad about this band. David's Father passes away, now everyone is upset because he's mourning in his own way? Poor, pitiful Frank Black. Firing your band by "fax" in the first place.........egomaniac to the nth degree.
What makes the Pixies the Pixies is what makes the Pixies the Pixies. Just sayin. No words to share between one another...and pressure and wow. Its just them. :)
There are not too many things more socially depressing than the spectacle of a drunk person trying not to let on that she is drunk. "Is this the first time I have been in New York sober? Hmmm...hiccup."
She has stated that she started drinking very early. I believe around 12 or 13. Since she's newly sober at the start of the doc (in her early 40s), it's understandable she hasn't been on New York sober. Or nearly anywhere outside of Ohio. I would hope she has maintained sobriety though.
That last "Hang Wire!" from Kim always gets me.
JUST F*CKING GREAT
Excelente video

Alan Turing o Nash? Quién sería más genio? Mira q los 2 son contemporáneos.
Difícil decidir, literal los 2 eran unos mountros en el desciframiento de códigos.
The best group in the World!
This is the most underrated song "The day is like a warm night salt rusts that cold line"
I would love to hear your interpretation of that line

Pixies took Kurt away to Nirvana!

They were amazing live!

This song is everything

So much love for the Pixies and this song
I dont think at any time that anyone knew that Joey was writing the music for this very documentary.
Its the reunion tour and David loses his father. Of course thats going to create tension.
The SOng at 905 is The Breeders Iris off their album Pod
Fuck that good stuff!
144p. Really??
+Jimmy Jenkins I can count each pixel.
Fucking hell. They were geniuses. The most influential band in American music since The Ramones.
talking heads? I see them as their heirs, either way they were geniuses
Since The Velvets!
@@amaro9085 And Hüsker Dü. Black Francis is a self-admitted fan of Bob Mould's band that he mentioned them in the ad to recruit Pixies band members.

They didn't start with the holiday song, Kim's sober and, apparently, a sloth. No one's on cocaine. What kind of pixies show is this?

Does anyone know the name of the song at 40 second mark played by Daniel Lanois? I can't find it anywhere...Such a relaxing sound. Thanks!

Anyone know what the band in the credits are?
A covers band. The bass player is the chick interviewed who said she read the book that mentions the pixies.
