Don't mess with those Fowler guys: On July 18, 2017, Dante Fowler was arrested in St. Petersburg, Florida for simple battery and committing mischief. Fowler confronted a man who commented about his driving, struck the man, broke his glasses, and threw a bag containing liquor into a lake. He was released from jail the next day on a $650 bond. On March 1, 2018, Dante Fowler pleaded no contest to battery, criminal mischief, and petty theft. He was fined $2,575, received a year of probation, and was ordered to undergo 75 hours of community service.[38] His younger brother, Donterio Fowler, was arrested in July 2021 in connection to a 2016 murder of a Florida International University student.
The Chiefs absolutely *DID* shut down the Philly run game. That was about the only thing they did well.
Nope....not even the Kansas Chiefs. They did a decent effort stopping Barkley, but then the aerial attack began.
Is this the best Run Game ever?
The Bills aren’t any good 🤷🏽♂️
I dunno why youtube keeps feeding me your worthless videos. You need a new grift man. RUclips subs are NEVER going to gift you any coin. This is the worst nfl analysis video series I've seen in 20 years. Zero excitement, zero build up, zero knowledge imparted. Sorry to be harsh, but you're a waste of my time RUclips quit referring this channel to me, FFS
Great concise breakdown. You should have more subscribers. Keep making videos and I think you will gain some traction.
Thank you so much!
Buff got away from running the ball cost them the game
Hmm i wonder what this means for barkley?
I'll tell why. It's the usual good ole boy network. I heard that greeny and dan o voted for allen. I look at them differently if they did. Lamar is just better than josh sorry. #blackathletesrule
Nice breakdown
Thank you!
If he were a true ball carrier lol
Haha Not to be nasty. Just meaning that’s not his primary job or specialty!
Damn this aged horribly 🤣🤣
Hahahaha well I guess any candidate ages horribly when it’s all said and done unless they are Super Bowl champs! Still think he had an MVP season though. Thank you for watching.
Good explanation of the concept of "gap exchange."
Thank you!
Should the Chiefs rethink the way they defend this?
Did the Chiefs defense fool Josh Allen?
Is it possible to account for every gap against a running QB?
My question, also, especially when considering a running QB with 1 back like in zone read. So many possibilities and so complex!
That's Andy Reid for you.
Ever hear of linebacker coach, Ken Flajole? When he was with the Eagles he did a video about run fits that gave me a lot of basics. ruclips.net/video/_4VpmqkaKOE/видео.html
Just watched it! Good stuff, thank you! He talked about Jim Washburns style of Defensive line coaching and it reminded me of my time with him at the Titans. Best D-line coach I’ve ever been around.
That was really good! It especially was interesting because the fullback was moving against the flow and you would think that it would draw the linebackers in the wrong direction. The play seems be be split outside zone.
Lbs don’t read that primarily but ol with the backs
Thank you!
Thank you as well!
Once again, what a great explanation of how linebackers work in the NFL. Fabulous presentation!
Thanks so much!
Did you know that the number of backs determines the number of potential gaps the linebackers are responsible for???
This Eagles team needs all the help they can get against those Chiefs.
Agreed
So how is it determined which are the gaps to be covered? What is not clear in your diagram is why there is no gap between the tight end and the inner man of the cluster. There are 8 men within a yard of the line of scrimmage, so to me, there are 9 gaps. So, pre-snap, number 27 should be covering that gap and number 35 would be covering the outside gap. It plays out that way anyway, right? The other confusion for me is that I thought that gaps off wide receivers were not normally run fitted. So, I wouldn't think that number 27 would need to fit.
The gap created by the inside man in the cluster ends up outside both the TE and the cracking receiver. Every gap must be accounted for in the run fits. In this case, if a wr is blocking, there is a definite gap created by him and it must be fit by the appropriate defender. Conner’s receiver (the inside of the cluster) carries a gap with him wherever he goes.
So for a 7 man box, you said the gaps filled by the linebacker are dependent on the direction of the running back. I'm assuming that the same holds true for a 6 man box?
7-man box really means 2 high safeties. Cover 2 and Cover 4 are 7-man boxes. 8-man box really means 1 high safety. Cover 1 and cover 3 are 8-man boxes. The actually number of players in the “box” is more a function of the offensive formation. Does that make sense? I’ll do another video of a 7-man box vs 1 back and one of an 8-man box vs 2 backs. That will show you what I mean about having 2 gap responsibilities pre snap in those situations. This is a great topic and often misunderstood. I’m going to clear this up for you! Thanks for the thoughtful questions!
@@HowToLinebacker Part of my confusion is probably with terminology. What you are describing is what I'm used to calling "spacing," as in 8-man spacing or 7-man spacing...as opposed to men in the box which I call the actual number of men who are physically located from tackle to tackle (the "box") So, theoretically you can have say, 7 men in the box, but 8 man spacing. Obviously, with all cover 1/3 defenses you don't actually have 8 men in the tackle box, especially with a spread formation. It made sense to me when I heard that the "spacing" terminology was created with the assumption of 2 back formations.
I’ve actually never heard of “spacing” but yes that makes sense
Agree 👍🏾 🦅🦅
Burks learned and he is hungry! He will be a force in this game! Go Birds
Great breakdown
Thank you!
Interestingly, Burks as a backup in last year's Super Bowl had to come in for an injured Dre Greenlaw. Some say that Burks didn't have a good game because Mahomes targeted him. Hopefully, it won't happen again.
That’s right! I had forgotten about that.
My cousin will put hands on Mahomes
Do the Eagles have the best linebackers in the NFL?
Very cool video. Can you try to balance the volume between clips better in the future? The outro was very quiet.
Thank you, Yes! Thank you for the feedback!
Chefs
It's just a variation of T-formation football.
Yeah I think a lot of people called it Diamond backfield
Thanks, never played football, so much of what you describe v well, I have never heard before. Thank you!
I am glad that you’re enjoying it!
Hmmm are j gonna cover 2k25 LB draftees or best LB at combine or Shrine Bowl or Senior bowl 🧐
That is an interesting idea, maybe I’ll do one!
You are clearly wrong about the defensive coverage here. Johnson is the extra man to the field side in a MOZ system - notice that they are 4 v 3 there, while the FS is the extra man to the short side, with Bernard effectively on the RB. Against a run it is supposed to be LC50 LB58 LA92 RA43 RB91 RC52. We can have a discussion about how sensible this all is but let's at least talk about the play as they drew it up rather than making up something else entirely and throwing false blame about. If you do have to blame someone here, I would focus first of all on #50, who is actually the free man but gets completely confused by the play design and doesn't chase it down properly. If he follows the tackle inside to cover what is the original RA gap then Bernard can be more aggressive in stepping into the original RC gap, which would force the RB back to the middle where the defence would be able to shut it down for a short gain. It is of course excellent play design in finding a way to exploit the way Buffalo sets up its pass defence. Analysing the play under the assumption of a completely different pass defence is just a waste of time.
Respectfully, I disagree with your analysis. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. But, You lost me at “Johnson is the extra player to the field side” as Johnson isn’t even on the field side.
So if an 8 man box is 1 man=1 gap, does that mean a 7 man box requires someone to play 2 gaps?
It’s a little more complicated than that. If there are no pullers, then a 7 man box vs one back or an 8 man box vs 2 backs would mean the linebackers would each have one of two gaps depending on what side of the center the fullback (8 man box) goes to or the single back (7 man box) goes to.
This is all pre-snap by the way. Once the play starts and they get their reads, everyone has one gap
@@HowToLinebacker I'm thinking that explaining all this would be a good subject of a future video.😄
Will do!
Mahomes TD was in the same formation he just pulled the ball - Whatever the advantage was, it was consistently a problem.
Correct! It doesn’t look like he was reading anything on this one which makes me wonder if it’s a pre snap read
What makes this even better is this same exact play is ran later in the game on the chiefs final touchdown where mahomes keeps and followed 83 and kelce as lead blockers and hunt becomes the diversion. Beautiful offense
Agreed!
How many underneath defenders are there in traditional cover 2??😅
There were 5 in this video, right? How many are there normally? (sorry for the dumb question)
Is it a normal setup to play man on the receivers, and then have a safety in the middle back of the defense? I assume it is, but just a question on watching the Bills as they set up to defend this crazy formation. Thanks!
Yes. That is referred to as cover 1, because there is only 1 deep defender. This is a variation of cover one in which there’s also one free underneath player called the rat. Hence the name “ 1 rat” the other 5 non pass-rush defenders each have one “man”.
The formation is brilliant because it always has five guys to one particular side on offense. This is a numbers game, that the defense will not win, unless they stay in their gaps
Interesting observation.
Wow. A CAT blitz through the B gap. I don't think I've seen that before.
It’s probably a check based on the alignment of the receiver. He has such a reduced split, that it becomes possible and might actually be a shorter distance than running an arc path around the tackle. Pretty clever. Josh Allen looks genuinely surprised to see Karloftis on the edge. And good thing too, because Kincaid was wide open.
If I remember correctly the 2010 or 2011 Sooners called it the Diamond formation. Not that the name of it is super important, I'm just happy to have recognized it from somewhere else!
Yes! I have heard it called that! That’s actually probably a better name than gunbone! Thank you!
Is this brilliant play design or a missed assignment?
Brilliant play because they used the same play in the designed qb run later on. Bills second guessed their reads and let Mahomes run it in
It's brilliant because it's a lot to process in an instant even for veteran defense players
Do you agree that Cook blew this coverage?
Maybe Cook thought that there was no way that Allen could accurately get off a deep pass and he was right!
I don’t think he did. I believe this a quarters pressure which spags is known for. He ran the same blitz last season against the dolphins
It sure looks like he did.
Hey Ryan and other linebacking fans. I found an interesting discussion of technique between old greats, Jeremiah Trotter and Seth Joyner. Forward wind to 52:00 ruclips.net/video/QAzUHIGIe1I/видео.html
First….these guys are both legends and I have the highest respect for them. However, Seth Joyner’s comments are a little short sighted and simplistic. I’m sure he realizes that and is making interesting observations for people discuss as opposed to really being committed to these observations as facts. Trotter is a little more contemporary and obviously has stayed close the the game and (it seems) is being respectful of Joyners observations, even though they’re incomplete. At the risk of upsetting guys I have a ton of respect for, would you be interested in a short video discussing some of the nuances and counterpoints of Joyners “arguments”?
@@HowToLinebacker Yes...that would be terrific! It seemed like Joyner made a big deal over foot placement and staying in your backside gap in case of the cut back.
Right. I have a different perspective on the foot placement and the Edge players responsibility on jet sweep. To be fair, when Joyner played, zone reads and jet sweep reads etc were not a thing so he probably just hasn’t considered all the possibilities. I’ll make a video soon about it. Probably using the ravens or Washington as they do a lot of different types of QB reads
@ He even brought RPO/read plays into this discussion, which wasn't common in his era. Will look forward to your input.
Evidently, the Chiefs didn't find it so hard to score on the Bills defense.😄
They sure didn’t! Haha
Do the Bills have the best GOALLINE defense?!
