A/C System recharge (2003 Dodge Durango)
This is a recharge on a 2003 Dodge Durango "duel unit" (rear air). This process works pretty much the same on all cars and trucks with a R134A A/C system.
Please post any questions. I'm sorry for the audio, this truck has a loud fan :(

This is a tut on how to repair striped threads with a heli-coil thread repair kit. The example that i'm using here is a brake caliper slide bolt on a 1997 Dodge dakota. The process is pretty much the same for any thread repair. Questions welcome! Tut requests welcome Please rate, comment & subscribe!

    If you tap the hole, let's say previous size was 7mm, the new tapped hole is 8mm, would it make sense to use a 8mm slide pin and not use the helicoil.

    Unlike our mech here, Don't ever pull the drill in and out. Every time you do you're rattling the drill in the new hole that you want to be as tight as possible. And NEVER do the in and out routine on your final diameter drill size. Running the drill in and out after the first pass only enlarges and misshapes the hole when you need every grain of thickness to remain for your new Helicoil thread to bite into. NEVEN NEVER ream the drill in and out. One straight pass is all you get. Protect the remaining metal. You need it in the hole. Not on the floor. Especially if you're short of wall thickness like this job. Otherwise, all good.

    I've gotta say yours is the best video on this specific subject I've watched. I certainly know how to drill out, and tap a hole. However your step by step instructions were very informative and made me feel much more confident in completing this task. Thank you

    Before you buy make sure you have enough metal left. Had a 2000 Durango were this fix would have opened up hole and had only paper thin metal on outside diameter. Great fix, good video!

      Damn, really? The 2000 Durango is so close in build to this 97 Dakota, or my 98 Dakota. I better go out and check that I can put a 3/8" hole in there B4 I continue down this path.

    I think that you should have to say that you should keep your hoses away from the AC hoses and the motor I was getting all kinds of crazy reads because the low side was heated up.

    More often than not "they'll" recover the refrigerant for free? Everyone says this. No one ever gives examples of who. I've yet to find a company that does it for free.

    Wouldn't it be a better idea to throttle the refrigerant into the high side behind the condenser since on the low side the suction line would go right into the compressor with liquid refrigerant?

    You should never use stop leak in an a/c system like was used in this video. All that stuff does is gum up things like orifice tubes, expansion valves, screens, etc. It's also worth mentioning that you need to be careful not to slug (hydrolock) the compressor with too much liquid at once when filling.

  • @josephvelder
    @josephvelder 10 лет назад

    if you left your manifold gauges closed after turning the pump off, you are only leak testing the manifold, the AC system has been isolated from the manifold.

    • @IntenseBlue318
      @IntenseBlue318 10 лет назад

      You're dead wrong, the gauges will still read the pressure/vacuum in the hoses. The valves only connect the high and low sides to the yellow service hose. If you left them open all you'd do is let air back in through the pump.
