Portkeys OEYE EVF/WHAT IS THAT NOISE?
This great EVF has one major flaw. You can't use it on a set that is recording sound.

This is my second Mavic Air 2 as the first one had a fan failure and was replaced under warranty. #2 has been rock solid and served me well on my travels. Review to come on the new zoom features. I will say that I'm not sure if the quality makes it usable. Fun, yes. Usable, not so sure.

URSA Low Light Outdoor no corrections
FYI: As of 2020, the URSA 12K has a newer 18:1 BRAW compression ratio and since firmware 7.7 works as perfectly as 12:1.
👍
wow, what a head; but the cameras you put on this aren't likely to be hand holdable, at ALL, this head could mount a medium to heavy machine gun (for an armoured personnel carrier), and not move! besides who wants to heft a 50Kg+ rig on ones shoulder?, not many.
Zacuto’s EVFs have SDI/HDMI loop through and covert from each other AND no fan. I have their older Zacuto Gratical HD EVF, 4:3 OLED, so scopes etc outside sensor crop, It’s 8 years old and still going strong. Hope you found an EVF that suited you in the end?
I finally got a ZCam EV and it works great. I'm sure the Zacuto is probably better, but the ZCam works perfectly for me ALTHOUGH I have not used it outside at all.
Not sure arrogant… Probably more to to with Arri patent, which Chinese companies don’t care about, can’t be sure though. Have lots of Zacuto kit which extremely well built and lifetime warranty. C
I thought it was very well built. Impressed by that, but unusable with my kit because of rosettes. Thank you for watching.
Can you explain the proces a litle bit better, you aded reset folder to the sd card, but shat else was on the sd card with that folder?
Man just saved me £350 as i was just about to buy this and didnt pay attention to that either, thank you!
Very informative
Thanks for the review. A part of me wants to get it. It would be useful for outdoors scenes, but the fan noise does create limitations on where to use it. Hopefully they’ll come up with a new version to address the issue. Even if it’s a couple hundred more.
You just saved me from buying this EVF lol! Thank you!
It really is bad. I just picked up a ZCam EVF second hand. Be on a lookout for a review on that. My fingers are crossed, but I don't have high hopes.
I have this EVF and the fan noise on my model is not that bad at all. I've used it on a sync sound shoot without issue. For instance, a RED camera makes so much more noise on set than the tiny fan in the Portkeys EVF. You can defintely use it on a set while recoding sound in my experience.
@@lyallcoburn1400 I'm glad you have had a great experience with the Portkeys. I really wanted to keep it because of the features and build quality. And I have a RED camera, albeit a newer one DSMC3 which they say is much quieter than DSMC2. I don't have experience with the sound of DSMC2. Having a Blackmagic EVF, I just can't justify the noise the Portkeys gives off. Unfortunately there are not a lot of great choices of EVF's out there, but at least the other options (ZCam, Zacuto, Blackmagic) with a similar price tag are silent. If Portkeys finds a way to make their EVF silent, I would be first in line to purchase.
@@alphaandomegaproductions5073 Have you seen this review / fan hack? ruclips.net/video/FA6bQL6atmw/видео.html
@@lyallcoburn1400 I haven't seen that particular one, but I have seen several videos of people removing the fan. I am not a fan (no pun intended) of fixing problems on new items that cost a lot of money and voiding the warranty.
Thanx bro! You saved me with your instructions in the comments. Now my monitor works again!
I'm glad it worked out.
Hi, I'm late to the party I see, but for me it wasn't connecting properly when I had my phone Bluetooth paired with PC at the same time (win10).

My DSMC3 raptor SmallHD monitor crashed during the updating. It bricked, black screen, nada to do. The only fix was for me to ship it from Europe to them in the US. Now I had to buy a 702 touch so I can keep working. Very very not happy. Furthermore, this is the second Red DSMC3 v-raptor monitor I had. The first one was DOA. That time it took me a month to have it replaced. Happy costumer? Not so much!
@@Michael-Elo I'm sorry to hear that. SmallHD support emailed me the other day and said they had a fix and updated the firmware. I have not checked nor installed. Not eager to try, but they did say the fixed the anamorphic problem with 5.0.1. Did you install the new firmware and still had a problem?
@@alphaandomegaproductions5073 My issue was a bit different. It crashed during the firmware update and black screen, no boot and bricked. They didn't inform me of any process I could try or any solution but to ship it back. So now I will have to wait the 4-5 weeks before they (hopefully) will send it back in working condition. So for now I can only use a 702 touch that I had to buy as a replacement for the time being.
What is the "reset" folder process? My touch screen has stopped working so id like to set my monitor to vanilla state
@@alastairmckenziepro Write SmallHD support. I am doubtful there is any reset folder that fix your issue. It sucks and is time consuming, however SmallHD will help you.
Please reach out to support ASAP and they will provide you a file to do a field recovery! If you can provide your serial number this will help them get you the right stuff. This bug has just been reported and engineering is working on a fix -- any other units in the field can avoid this by not using the global tool for the time being.

Black magic URSSA v1?
Yup. Just sold it three months ago. Great camera
Raw file looks awesome. Do you mind if I ask which lens you were using?
I am pretty sure I had my Zeiss Contax 35mm lens on. I modified the mount to EF. And I was using the Meike EF to RF adapter with the built in variable ND.

Didn't give up on the URSA, but I did give up on the F6. Good camera, just not right for me.
@@alphaandomegaproductions5073 I had been Eyeing the Ursa for a bit. It'd be awesome to have a robust camera with a bit more modern sensor. I'm currently using the Pocket 6K & 4K
@@CineMobilePodcast the pocket cameras are great. Very portable and good image. You can find used URSA Mini Pros G1 for good prices. I know they aren't cheap, but at least they're cheaper than they were. I'm working on a new series reviewing the new camera I bought. Look out for it next weekend.
Ash ketchup
Do you think an Ursa major V2 is worth it for an independent looking for a cheap quality camera ?
Yes, as long as you recognize the weight. It is a heavy camera, but a really good one.
I’ll never use this tripod as it’s way out of budget for what I do but you kept me intrigued haha
LOL. I here ya. I often wonder how much the tripod head really costs to make.
@@alphaandomegaproductions5073 Difficult to say without looking over their books over a few years. But how much would it cost to make yourself assuming you'd have to hire/buy all the tools? Then it would look like a bargain.

I too have a hit and miss issue with the speed editor working. DR can see it...bluetooth can see it ...even USB can see it...but it wont work seamlessly. I have to connect and restart many times
at least show where you got this window from inside DVR
The window you see is not from Davinci. It is the Bluetooth settings window in MAC OS Big Sur. You have to have Davinci open in order for the Speed Editor to connect to Bluetooth. They sent me a new unit last week. It was a long process, but the new unit works fine. The Speed Editor I had was defective
I am having same issue on windows 10, had it working before bought new computer, and its seeing it but wont connect and if it does then resolve doesnt see it

Do you know if the ursa mini is the same in low light like the ursa?
I have an URSA Mini and it is much better, but nothing like a canon or Sony. You have to have some light with Blackmagic cameras, but I think you need light for any image to look good.
Compared to what I have, Libec tripod and head, this is a monster!
Best tripod review ever... and I like my legs long.

@@alphaandomegaproductions5073 now I know 😉. All the best to you and hopefully this battery runs as expected.
Is there anyone who can help me distinguish the difference between Broadcast vs Cinema Head+tripod, thank you!
It all depends on the weight of the camera rig, specifically what lens you have on. A professional broadcast rig with a Fujinon UA 107 $20,000 zoom lens will require a large OConner head. A Blackmagic URSA Broadcast with a small Fujinon zoom lens would not. It is always going to boil down to weight and what a specific head+tripod can balance. Hope this helps. I can say that I used to never understand why tripod heads were so expensive. Until. Until I used my first expensive cinema package. Then I realized that putting 100k camera package on top of a $300 tripod head was not worth the risk. Also, a tripod, if well taken care of, will last you a lifetime. And that said, I would always rent a large tripod/head system until it became apparent that it would be more cost effective to buy.
Amazing review, thank you !
Thank you for watching!
Seriously cracking up at some of your commentary... "OK that's my opinion...but...it's truth" ... Thank you. It's a great little drone.
One of the best videos I've seen, your opinion is correct and you explained why you're upset...I totally agree I have the Ursa V2 so long. I love the camera. The 3 screens, the sound LED's,the 4K 120fps RAW... Nothing comes close not even now... I wish Blackmagic kept the promise... I have also a Ursa mini Pro and BMPCC 6K... I still use the original Ursa all the time... The global shutter is just awesome!
Do you have the ursa v1?
Did you manage to get a new battery or repair?
They finally replaced the battery in May. I had to file a warranty claim, it moved up the ladder, they admitted something was wrong and they replaced it. Haven't had any problems since. Ahh, Tesla.
thanks! :D
Hey Bro Im curious what made you get another Blackmagic camera after the Original Ursa? Do you still own the original Ursa?
Still have the original URSA. We had an ongoing job where we needed a two-camera setup so we pulled the trigger on the discounted Ursa Mini. At the time Blackmagic was still saying they were going to sell the 4.6K sensor upgrade for the original URSA and then we would have had two cameras with matching sensors. As we know now, Blackmagic never provided the sensor upgrade as promised. That's something we are dealing with now.
OMG this is hilarious
Thx. Made this three years ago and is still relevant. Doing our best to make sure it isn't relevant three years from now.
The service rep was lying to your about the car "learning a new owner" the BMS (battery management system) does everything to keep the battery safe. If the battery celsl are imbalanced the BMS will balance the battery during a charge. Discharge your battery to 10% then supercharge to 100%, that may rebalance your battery. Once that is done you will see if you gain any range but it is highly doubtful.
Thank you for your advice. I did this and the range is the same.
@@alphaandomegaproductions5073 Tesla owes you another battery pack, per the warranty, you should get range that is equal or better than what you had. It is right there in the warranty paper work. Since you are under time constraint in going back to New York I would hire a lawyer. Also email the service rep, don't talk over the phone, that way you have a record of what was said.
The battery continuously balances and BMS calibrates. Very unlikely you will see any change by going below 20% or above 80%
Another thought is go back home, find another SC, far from town. Don't tell them the history in FL.
I have nothing against Tesla, but they need to own this and fix it. It will hurt the brand otherwise. Consumers of autos have long memories. l have messaged you via TMC, please respond if you you use some help..."CPO" 2018, 2015 MS 85D
