Sounds fantastic!

The clean channel is often ignored on amp reviews in favour of distortion and/or overdriven tones. You can get all that in a variety of pedals but the clean tone on this particular model is superb and it accepts pedals very comfortably.

The kit with those heads sounds very good. I am curious what you are using on the reso side?

Just bought mine for16$ at thrift shop .The sound for 16$ is great.

I have an old UK made VC30 210 with the Jensens and a MIC 112. Great amps. Love my little Cub12R as well!

I was on the edge between these and the Evans calftones (I know they are thinner, I think) but this video just sold me on the Aquarians. I have an old 60s Gretsch with 13" and 16" toms. (20" kick though, but still sounds huge). I think I will put a Calftone EQ4 on the kick though... but the toms will likely be these. I currently have Fiberskyns and they are OK, but I'm not thrilled. Just a tad thick.

Here are my two cents: I have tried A LOT speakers in this amp, modern and originals. For clean jazz tone the legend L 1218 is the best I have tried so far in it. A 16 ohmed G12T75 modern takes out the low mids so makes it sound very sparkly and fendery- good if you want to. A vintage V30 that had a dense steely tone- good for slide guitar. Greenbacks sound very woody, but are not my top choice. G1265- similar to the stock HH 1265 in many ways, very nice. The best was an EVM12L, original, in a thiele cab. And the best overall was an Eminence 16 ohm Lady Luck- unbelievable speaker. So good it make me email Eminence to ask for similar contemporary speakers of them (lady lauck is an OEM Emily speaker) and they informed me that their currently produced equivalents are the CV 75/ 65, Reignmaker, Governor and Legend L1275recommended- and they are correct, you may go with any of these!!! From Celestions for this amp I recommend: Alnico blue, gold, cream, ruby. G12H anniversary- not the Heritage. Any Creamback, especially the H75. V type first, A type second. G1265/ T75. 70-80/ G12P80. From Eminence those I mentioned first plus the GA SC64 plus many others. From Jensen C12N, K2, P12. This amp packs a lot of punchiness, boominess and low mids due to circuit design and small enclosure so you may need to compensate for that with the speaker choices. It is a GREAT amp, totally recommended.

Wish the demo had not been so one dimensional. It needed more variety - guitars, pedals, tonal changes. Very hard to gauge the amp (to buy it) off this posting.

Wow -- that is a really sweet-sounding amp, especially considering the very reasonable prices of these amps.

this amp with celestion creamback speaker is the best guitar sounding amp I have ever owned(and I owned marshall, vox, fenders over the years). The stock laney speaker does not do it justice.

Good on you, Wombat, nice review. These can be had in the States for pocket change used, and really are very warm, much like all of them girls named Sheila I had so much fun with whilst in your beautiful country a few years back. Thought about taking one of them home, too!

there aren't any great demos of this amp. Its a killer amp when you crank it. It has a really tight low end and punches you in the face when really loud. All the vids I have seen so far don't do it justice. As a pure clean sound, or a pedal platform, it would not be my first choice, because its hard to get much volume without the gain being engaged. But as far as pure valve overdriven blues tone, its a fuckin beast!

Somewhere, between Marshall, Vox, Mesa Boogie and Fender there is an amp that does it all ... just saying.

It's often the case in these videos that we don't get enough information. Are there heads the 10 mil or 7 mil? What are the bottom heads? Vintage? 10 mil or 7 mil? Did they use a tuning device or not? What are the pitches of the top and bottom heads when you muffle one of them and tap the other? Is the bottom head higher, lower, or the same pitch? Without this kind of information these videos are not that useful.

How would this stand against having a head with DI like Bassbreaker 15? I'm trying to decide between the two for my home recording. Any thoughts and comments?

The best tones cannot be captured on mikes cranked up power tube overdrive is so good its tones blew me away and I had a attenuator on the output to cut some DBs ! It was still very loud indeedy ! The clipping power tubes just sounded crunchy and chords were great too not muddy ! Its a big stage amp sound to crank up even at 30 watts ! Practice at low volumes you never get its real tone !

Great pedal platform.

i own one. they are great. like a fender style without the ice pick highs. Distortion is a classic rock style and doesnt get heavy. If you use pedals or dont need much OD this is a fantastic amp. I loved my fender super champ xd but this one is better

Nice demo, best I've seen on this amp. You do a sample of clean, and a light crunch, then a heavy crunch. And no yakking. And very tasteful, cool playing that complements the amp setting being featured. Thanks, I feel as though I heard the amp for the first time, and liked what I heard.

Try it yourself in a guitar shop. Don't judge it from a youtube video with dubious sound.... it's a great wee amp. Lovely tone.

I like how you demo these heads wide open. Other demo videos sometimes muffle the life out of the heads and you can not hear the sound signature of the heads, nor the drums. By the way.... nice rhythmic playing!
