Painting Model Cras With Rust Oleum
In this video I show my method of using Rust-Oleum 2X for painting model cars.
I felt i needed to make this video because there is a lot of misinformation about this paint.
It will work fine if you follow a few guidelines!
1)First and foremost READ THE DIRECTIONS! (The company that makes the paint knows how it works)
2) do all your painting color and clear at same time.
3)Have fun it is just a hobby!

Shaving(removing) door handles etc on model cars
Просмотров 8685 лет назад
In this quick little video I show how i shave (remove) door handles and other trim. It is a real quick easy thing you can do to your model cars to give them a sleek custom look. You only need a few basic tools that are probably in your toolbox already, Sprue cutters,Sandpaper, sanding sticks, and liquid cement ( i use plastruct). To remove big things like door handles just trim them as close as...

I've used thag same filler primer and then when I used the Duplicolor Perfect Match over the top, it ate the plastic, and gave be a crappy textured finish. Had to sand it all down and the plastic was permanently damaged. Had to use Mr Surfacer and then Createx to get a decent finish. Same results with Colorshot and Rustoleuk 2x.
i dont know what would cause that i do it all the time and never had that issue it is supposed to be captible
Short and to the point!! Love it!
Nice 😁
thank you
Can you recommend a glue to glue a paint part to paint part?
i just use superglue from harbor freight
Good idea with the spoons
i used tamiya smoke (spray) for tint but got some on clear areas where i dont want it how can i get it off im scared i have to order a new window.
Thanks for doing this! Super helpful to see the difference with base coats. Exactly what I was looking for before I use metalcast
AWesome.... just one piece of advice. I polish before I put all the little details on, i.e. mirrors, door handles, etc. I use super glue or epoxy to mount them. this way I don't knock them off while polishing... never had trouble with adhesion doing this.
I just got this for Christmas, early commenting , but can't wait to watch you build it
Does this take the “sheen” or film glare off decals? So mostly armor and aircraft and I’m always looking for an affordable way to remove that decal film that stands out and really tells the observer it’s a decal. I have some Pledge Revive It Floor Gloss that I can try this with.
Ok im using typical paint from Lowe's, im not rich, my problem is the finish is 2 different textures, shiny and matt, with no primer, i washed parts first, please someone help me with this
i would highly recommend primer (gives the paint something to "bite" into so when you do following steps you dont have paint peeling) then you can base the car in either the matt or gloss let it dry tape it off and paint other color, or you can just paint he whole car then tape off the area you want to be different shade and clear it with appropriate clear (gloss or matt)
As the former owner of a 1967 GTO I don't understand a two tone on a 1966 Goat.
Very cool, thanks for the tip , that answers a lot of questions
Hey do I get the tint effect if I spray Tamia on real car glass windows ??
My problem is that, after I have sanded the door handles off my 1/24 Mustang Coupe 2+2, how do I scratch build a new door handle for the plastic model car
heee
Up here at the tri state panhandle of 'hi oh Pencil vein ya and Wes (by God) Virgin ya we are upper Apple latch chin folk . Some Pittsburghese language y'all with some hoop jack in there (no disrespect). Across the 'hi oh river is Homer Laughlin China where Fiesta ware is made. Back in the day 80 some potteries were along this river from Newell West Virginia East Liverpool (pottery museum) Ohio on down river just a bit. Rich with clay soil in this region . One time Kaul Clay made pipe Dando Refractories made kiln brick also Minor Brick just to name a few .
Would you sell the c1500-c3500?
I personally know this : as a base coat Testors spray enamel flat black, then two coats of Testors Color Shift "Purple Sunrise" makes for a beautiful color. However... don't put a coat of Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Enamel over it. I've done this on many colors with fabulous results. But putting the Rust-Oleum clear coat over the "Color Shift" dulled the paint finish and it looked like absolute crap! The whole finish was ruined. I had to strip it and start from scratch.
The U.K. the primer to buy is Halfords Primer Could be its may be made by duplicolor..
I use to get the free paint samples that Lowes use to do years ago as kid back in like 2003 when I was 11 and got my first airbrush at age of ten and would go in pick the colors I wanted for bodies and engines and interiors possibilities are endless on colors and get my free sample that's enough to paint 10 bodies once you thin it down properly airbrush then I would hit it with a good clear coat and it would look so nice
Which one looks better gold underbase or silver?
What do you think bout touch up xs on a model car?
I'll be turning 40 Sunday I recently found a model car kit I started when I was 15 and 1958 Impala I used to be big into models doing Ken's custom fuzzy for interior and using the big kid Enterprises hydraulic kits I'm literally using leftover stuff from all that long ago I'm glad I found your Channel
Question: with Tamiya Smoke or another product on the windows. If I put a camera to film inside. Can I see outside?
How long does it take to dry to paint over chrome?
I painted some fittings with it the other day in less than a half an hour later I topcoated it with transparent to Maya I wouldn't recommend doing that but I did it give it a couple days and you should be able to paint over it but why would you want to paint over it unless you're doing like I was doing with fittings or lights or something
Good vid dude hope you throw out more content especially with round2models cranking out kits
The problem is finding those primer cans you have. They re very difficult to find, only can find Duplicolor car paints which not many different colors are available, just some late model colors like silvers black white and some greys😝👎
i dont have any problem finding them at least before covid but most auto parts stores except autozone carry them
Great video ! Where do you get your cars from??
Very nice tip. Thanks for sharing.
Nice video. Very useful information. Thanks for sharing.

How do you attach the rearview mirror in the headliner? A pin would poke through the roof ...
Thank you! I've been searching for a solution. Looking forward to trying this.
New sub, great tutorial. I have used this technique after breaking off a part but never to install. Where does one get small door handles and windshield wipers?
Nice job bro
FOR THE DAWWWGS
I used to put models together including NASCAR race cars but prices have gone up over the years. Nice models you have there.
I agree prices have gotten high on model cars but they are cheaper than other things
Is the sealer the main key for all paint etc?
Thank you for the video! I want to paint my car Tamco "Dirtbag Brown" but will bring my car to bare metal but don't know which base coat color I want...am thinking red
I have no idea what base color to use cuz I don't know what dirtbag Brown is for one and for two I would just use to to the spoon test like I did in my video till you get the color you like
GREAT IDEA
Looks great! Have you ever used Future on woodgrain decals? I was also wondering if you've ever flat-coated an engine block after painting and before chrome. I think it makes the block look more realistic. Thanks for the video!
I keep hearing that the window tint eats away at the paint job on the Lexan bodies. This must be a lacquer based smoke, is it? I want to know if you have experience with spraying the smoke on a clear body FIRST and then spraying a color like silver for example as to use the smoke to enhance the body lines before the silver. Do you have experience with layering it like that on Lexan bodies?
I dont know what the composition of the paint is. So i do not have a clue what it will do to a lexan body, sorry.
Hi Terry 1992 mercedes 500sl crimson red i painted over a black primer and color looks a little more orange red compared to color on car should i go over a grey primer instead thanks!
i would recommend the spoon test, paint it over gold, silver, and gray and see which one you like best
is marriedwithhobbies.com still active? it does not seem to exist as a blog anymore.
Hey! Looking at multiple video for this product and you are the first to mention sealing the object/model in a plastic bag. I will definitely do that with some test pieces since that will heighten the level of the effect -- and looks like many did not see as much effect as they wanted, and your looked nicely rusted.
Yes, it works a lot better and faster when sealed in plastic bag.
When you prime & seal, do you decant from the spray can and airbrush them on, or do you use them straight from the spray can?
Now, why would you make such a wide, sweeping statement? It just ain't true. Sheesh.
did you even watch the video, as i stated if you use the right primer you paint them with ANYTHING! didnt say i would recommend some paints but its possible if you choose too!
Thank you Sir I wanted to lower my truck . it is the same kit
Glad I can help
