Formula Student Austria was rough. The car had big issues with the engine and barely a setup. On top of that I somehow killed the second gear in my winning Autocross Lap at 00:39. I was "lucky" it died on top of the hill. Thumbnail by Luisa and other FSA-Photographers :) Sorry for the bad quality but the camera needs to be lightweight.

i don't understand how people can drive these cone tracks... i would never be able to figure out a turn radius from that sh*t.
Beforehand we do a trackwalk and if the track didn’t change, you can look at onboards like these to get a feeling for the track, then each driver has 2laps to set the best time, first lap is definitely for learning, second lap is when you need to get it right it’s not that difficult, but it definitely takes focus and let’s not forget that you’d probably have a good amount of experience driving between cones in testing

This track is so easy compared to Germany
Not so easy to say IMO. It's probably easier to flip a cone in germany, yes. But that's just half the trick, as you might now: FSG track is getting tighter and slower year by year. No need for long hard braking or even trail braking. No need for drivability+downforce balance at high speeds. Cause there's no high speed cornering in FSG. Michigan is also demanding for the driver cause you have to choose the raceline yourself, due to the open track design.

It's a beautiful car, and superbly driven, but why don't they let you guys just do a lap of the course? It seems a bit insulting to your hard work to make you drive it through monaco cones edition 😆
Great car and obviously excellent driving. But the organizers deserve a major demerit for a safety violation. The end of the layout, the finish lane, should always be clear well past the stop point. I was dismayed to see a car and pedestrians directly ahead of the finishing competitor. There was NO safe avenue for escape which was not occupied. Any failure which prevented effective braking could have resulted in a catastrophe. Pause the video at 0:45 and consider the driver's options if he cannot stop the car.
Be aware that a slightly more expensive kart would beat the FSAE car. It doesn't matter. That's not what FSAE is about.
Proper professional shifter karts are absolutely insane stuff, super satisfying to see pro drivers whip them around tracks
could you please explain what data do you display on the dash and how you get that data ?
Just your basics: RPM, Gear, Oil/Watertemp, Oil/Fuel pressure, Throttle position, battery voltage. It's a Motec Display getting the Data from the Motec ECU

No. The new car had brake issues. This fixed with the same driver in both cars and the new is def. faster.

Why do the FSAE cars never have much camber? I’m curious on the setups because I feel like that’s how a whole bunch of time could be made.
This depends on tires and track conditions. In this case for example you don't need much.

Dude you were absolutely RIPPING!!!! I saw your active aero on the front left element....how was that actuated?! It looked like the angle became less steep as you increased speed, was it driven from air speed or some other sensor?

A succinct description...except that in 2018 onwards the committee changed the UK rules to allow for cars built to FSG specifications as well.
