The Stellar 15' (S15LV) Touring Kayak was designed for speed and stability for small to medium sized paddlers for touring and fitness paddling. So now the bulkhead screw locations are where the tension is applied instead of the outer skin! This is a major departure from the common boat design, which I am not impressed. I wonder how strong this is in comparison.
Fast boats !
Well done! Thx for explanation, cause my wire is so hard to push. I checked insinde the boat and recognized two sharp curves in the hull of the line, but I don.t know, how to remove the skeg out of the box to replace cable and hull. Thx, have a good late summer, Henry
Thank you! Mine fell off and it was intuitive replacing it. Your video was perfect!
What the hell is that racket? Turn it off please!
Could you buy this and run an additional cockpit making it a three person tandem? Perhaps if buying one full kit and an additional middle cockpit?
Beautiful but surely a hook/latch/clip would have allowed a reduction to 2 screws per section and sending tension directly through the hull skin rather than the internal bulkhead?
Is it going to be available in Australia
Can you show another video or explain the bungie you're using to keep the rudder safe during transport. FYI - I just purchased the S14S G2/puffin. Fast, responsive, and light SOT. It's a blast to paddle.
Have two paddles under my belt with a new Puffin (S14S). Amazing boat. Fast, responsive, and a joy to paddle.
Look like awesome boats! I am hoping to purchase one, soon!
Can you please confirm the payload - ideal paddler weight for the 19? Website says 154kg's /340Lbs - seems very light for a double. Thanks
Nice job Ben
Such a beautiful boat .. I would love to have it in my lounge room, just to look at and admire. Anyways I love my Stellar S14, later I will migrate to the multisport S16 magic boat. :-) Without a doubt, Excellent products made with perfection and quality. Cheers
He made it look easy But I'll stick with getting in where I can get in from shore🤣🤣 I fractured my toes trying to get in from the dock for the first time
Interesting. You can paddle as a solo or as a tandem... Good idea except perhaps the complications of the lines controlling the rudder as you'd have to address that aspect like where the front cockpit lines go when using as a double, right?
Awesome 😎 👍
Im a grip laminator and I built a modular kayak from scratch for my son 6 years ago. Cost me about £150 to build. That price is outrageous
Looks like the hardest part (running the lines through the tubes) was left out
Looking at one of these as an upgrade to my current 13.5 foot yak
Great walkthrough. Just had a paddle clinic with this guy, he really knows his stuff!
Bow and stern lines do nothing to secure the boat.
What if you don't have enough car roof overall length to catch both bulkheads? Line up just the forward bulkhead for strapping?
The weight is very attractive, but five grand is far out of my price range. I'm considering the heavier but otherwise similar Mercury GTX.
Crazy thing I can't find anywhere to buy this boat in China, called the Sino Eagle factory which do OEM manufacture for Stellar, they dont deal with individual buyer...
That is one great looking boat! Would love to see a video of it on the water.
It looks like a nice ski, but why are Stellars’ videos so amateurish….doesn’t fill me with confidence.
That looks like a nice boat. It seems like there is very little rocker which would suit my flat water paddling. I'm glad you've started to change the shapes in the bucket. The bucket on this reminds me of my epic G3 which I really like. Good job on the design.
Fabulous boat. Has many updates that make it worlds better than its predecessor. Am tall and I wanted a more stable boat than the G1 but didn't give up the speed. Tried a G2 and traded my G1 in pretty much right then and there. Its a little faster but its far easier to stay going fast because especially with the skeg down the G2 tracks extremely well. Its extremely fast, according to Strava & Garmin I can get it up to about topping out around 6.3mph, gets up to speed in just a couple strokes, is effortless to paddle even somewhat fast without having to push it to outrun any comparable kayak and for what it is extremely stable. 1 even 2 foot white caps don't faze it much as long as you keep paddling but if you find a quiet cove you can stop and not get out to enjoy a drink, snack or take photos. You really don't need a rudder and can control the boat just with paddling style and the skeg its good not to have that complexity as it tracks heroically well in bad conditions. Its also easy to carry this 36lb boat anywhere, get it over fences and into closed parks especially this time of year. Also have an ST-17 and not smitten by the Smart Trak rudder as it has dead spots and you can't feel it so its hard to control. The seat is also not the best I wish Stellar boats used the same comfy seats as Wilderness Systems. Other than that I love my G2 take it out on long paddles seeing the miles melt away. I own different ones and all Stellar boats are absolutely wonderful just get better seats!
I would use the ramp behind him lmao
Needs more logos. hahaha
The video equivalent of "more cowbell!" LOL
IT's so much easier to get into a boat with feet on either side in shallow water than it is going down into it from a dock. That said surfskis are something else and far harder to learn as they are significantly less stable that kayaks.
The Dragonfly is a joy. Very light (24lbs mine in Excel) easy to carry and wonderfully responsive in the water. Edges very well turns in its own length and handles beautifully in small, tight quarters where it does best. It is a handful when wind kicks up and not safe in "big' conditions even out on a lake though as its high, light and for all the reasons its so wonderful, crisp, responsive and easy to carry, the wind finds it just as easy to scramble. I love it for pond hopping as the area surrounding my house is filled with wetlands, ponds and streams. I can spent hours portaging around the forest with this delightful little boat, fishing, camping. For that its perfect.
that hull ain t going nowhere fast
Didn't mention the most stellar feature: the weight.
The audio on these videos is terrible. Not only is there a lot of echo due to the acoustics of this garage (and presumably a microphone that is some distance from the person speaking) but you are playing background music that further masks the audio. Please consider investing in a better microphone and doing away with the music.
love love love! this is what i needed! ❤
Thanks for the demo. The music is way too loud!
Why have music. No need.
Thanks for this video! I always felt more comfortable placing my boat upside down but stopped due to peer pressure lol. Everyone else puts it right way up. Then one day I heard a crack when one of them was tightening it. What kind of foam pads are those? I’d like to purchase them
Do you prefer this method to J cradles?
Damn Ben Lawry. Been a long time, MAPA dude.
How do you keep the seat bottom from sliding around?
Do these help with balance and roll? How much?
Had a chance to paddle one of these recently, only with the under-stern rudder. Coming from an Eddyline Sitka LT, this thing is like a go-cart! Really fast!
Mine has foot operated rudder, wish it had a drop down skeg instead. Tracking without the rudder deployed is non-existent, it basically spins in circles. Got it for sale now.
Mike-Your comments are the only ones available for the S12, it’s tough to find any customer reviews anywhere, not even on the Stellar owners forum on Facebook. I see only one RUclips video that shows an on-the-water review for this model (Dan at Headwaters Kayak). The dealer nearest to me said there is currently about a 3-4 month turn around for any newly ordered boats. Many dealers don’t stock an S12 because they sell more surf-ski models and the longer kayaks, but I wanted one of these for the speed and light weight.
Hey sorry I never saw you replies yes its really too bad. Most people who want to dish out that kind of money want to go really fast but I am 6'4". I don't want to roll, flip or do any of that craziness. I just like to go out and fitness paddle, I don't race. My go to boat is the S14 G2 but I use the S12 in more restricted waters or having to carry it longer distances or if going out with a buddy or the wife. But by the time you get to Stellar you are likely already into a higher skill level above the S12 and don't want to leave speed on the table.. Me, because of my height I know I will never feel comfortable in a tippy boat like that, ever. I have been told to take lessons and keep practicing, well I have for years actually and I still don't feel comfortable in true sea kayaks or anything truly considered "fast". I know I have likely hit my plateau and am OK with that. I live in colder climate and enjoy paddling BECAUSE I don't want to go in the frigid waters so prefer a stable boat.
the music is detrimental
Video does not say anything about what models have adjustable seat pans like what is shown. All the recent videos I have seen on the kayaks, even the S14 G2, the seat pan appears to be fixed and one piece construction with the cockpit rim, so can’t be adjusted this way. Those videos seem to indicate that only the back band is adjustable. Correct me if I am wrong, I understand it’s hidden and hard to see on those videos.
I have a s14 g2 and the seat is as shown here… adjustable.
Great tip thanks
Is there a way to have both understern rudder and rudder off the stern on a S14G2?
