You could definitely be onto something with the “bringing her in so late part.” Maybe that could’ve been better if we got to see these characters earlier and have them grow on us some. I’m glad you say she’s a top 5 character of importance though. I can’t agree with the aimbot sucking to watch part. I was always shocked and I was never thinking “oh that was bs.” I see what you mean but realistically we have Mikasa and Levi in this show too. I don’t doubt someone who’s been training to shoot for years, is recognized as a generational prospect, and is trying to shoulder the full responsibility for an entire race could be an incredible shot even as a 9 year old. Like there’s 9 year olds who can throw a baseball at 60 mph without placing a fraction of the importance in the game as Gabi does in being a warrior. Next I’ll reiterate something I’ve said many times in this comment section that I wish I fleshed out in this video. To me what makes a character good isn’t only their development and growth. But also their importance in the plot. Even more than that, their importance in the ability of the key themes in the show to be portrayed through them. Gabi checks all these boxes on top of being a badass. Let’s look at the theme of “anything is justifiable if it protects your people.” This show does a phenomenal job portraying this through Gabi particularly. Compare her situation to a real one with Pearl Harbor. In middle school in the US we’re taught that it’s this tragedy. Then they teach us about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki where they almost act as if those things were inevitable. But if you take a step back you’ll realize that Japan made a strategic move to disable the closest American military base. We responded by dropping never before seen weapons of mass destruction onto their civilian population twice. It’s important to remember that many of those people on the edge of the blast were affected the worst. They didn’t have the luxury of a quick death. There were children playing outside when one day a big boom happened and their bodies were in agonizing pain as they lay next to friends and family. And slowly they died there. The US will justify that action to this day because it saved a countless number of American lives. Soldiers surely and maybe civilians if Japan eventually attacked the mainland. That theme doesn’t get portrayed in nearly the same depth without Gabi’s actions, because at the time they all made sense in her situation. If you still think she’s a bad character I guess I can’t change your mind but I do truly appreciate the thoughtful comment and the fact that you watched it all! That’s the thing about art man we don’t all have to agree and different things will resonate with some more than others. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Well guess what She shot Sasha UNFORGIVABLE

I didn't hate gabi for killing Sasha. What I hated her for in early season 4 was her hypocrisy. Before she goes to Paradise Island and has her eyes opened, she brushes off the reasoning of Eren and the scouts doing what they did even though they're literally the same as hers. I agree that she has phenomenal character development, but there's just something about people that hold such a blatant double standard that I can't stand.

Right I feel like people forget that she’s a child a lot. She’s doing her best to make her family proud and in the indoctrination and brainwashing that she’s received, she is doing the right thing. It takes her some time to break those shackles that she was born into but that makes sense. I forgot how much she clutched up on the end of the show too I need to go rewatch that!

She was hypocritical for a while that’s true I get that. But you gotta realize she’s a kid who’s been brainwashed and indoctrinated. They shackled her mind and it takes her time to break free from that. She grew and ended up saving the day in the end and I respect her for what she did.

That’s valid. My main point is that her character development does a lot for the over arching theme of war in the show. Anything is justified in war. The justification is always that if it makes things better for your people it’s the right thing to do. Take Pearl Harbor for example. Since middle school in the US we’re taught that it was a tragedy. Then they teach us about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and almost act as if those things were inevitable. But take a step back and you see that Japan made a strategic move to shut down a nearby military base. In response the US dropped never before seen weapons of mass destruction onto their civilian population twice. They justify it by saying stopping the war early saved an unknown number of American lives. Soldiers but potentially civilians if Japan made an attack on our main land. AOT shows both perspectives having this mentality and Gabi is a big part of that. She’s a badass character and plays a huge role in the story overall. That’s why I think she deserves more recognition 🤷🏾‍♂️

Next I’ll have to say that I agree with most of everything you said except the part where you said the planet search can be boring at times. It’s pretty short in my opinion and between its spontaneous nature, the dynamic between Pan and Giru, the creep in intensity. It doesn’t bore me at all and I’ve rewatched the series many times. It’s why I think it is better than Z actually. It’s much more “Dragon Ball” than Z itself is and the fact that it can reach that Z level of intensity later in the show is why I think it’s better. But I understand why you’re saying that. My biggest rebuttal for my own argument is that I’ve gone way longer without watching Z than I have GT so maybe I could have recency bias with that.

​@@rayllive There is for sure some fun instances in the planet searching arc, I for one, like the parapara brothers, I feel they're overhated. the first episode where they get in donkia's planet can get a bit repetitive, cause in one of the episodes we ended up meeting a couple that help the heroes, which is something that happen again in the same story, and they tell the story of the planet a couple times and gets repetitive, the earthquake monster I felt was pretty pointless, there was no reason for Trunks to dress like a girl and try to cut the monsters moustache, instead of just beating him up. some things can feel kinda pointless and repetitive, specially considering how powerful the characters are, or how many instances something is solved with Goku using a kamehameha, instead of more creative finishing moves, even in the shadow dragon saga that happens, with Goku finishing the 2 star ball dragon with another kamehameha. the solutions to problems can be repetitive too and all of that repetition and predicatability can make things a bit boring imo. still not a bad arc though, I would call it mid at worst.

@ I can see what you mean about explaining the lore on certain planets more than once. But for me I love that Trunks dressed like a girl and partly because he didn’t have to. They could’ve just fought the monster but I like the silly approach there. It gives me a whimsical vibe that’s a breath of fresh air for a Dragon Ball Series. I like the fact that the planet searching arc isn’t super serious in moments like those but to each his own. As for Goku defeating villains with a kamehameha I like that it’s done some. It’s paying homage to a classic finishing move for Goku. But perhaps it is overused, I’m not sure how many times he did it. The Planet Searching Arc and the Shadow Dragons definitely get the most criticism though. In my opinion it’s more warranted for the Shadow Dragon Saga but maybe that’s just me!

@Husgreen I highly recommend you go watch it for yourself and don’t read the rest of this. But if you’re not gonna watch it and really wanna know, long story short he gained the power to see the future and influence the past once he came into contact with royal blood, Historia. He felt or realized that the only option was Zeke’s plan to euthanize all subjects of Ymir or to start the rumbling. He didn’t want all his people to die out for no reason, so he went against Zeke and started the rumbling. The whole world knew that the rumbling was a threat from the subjects of Ymir so they were mostly hated. It was only a matter of time before the whole island was raided and killed. That was literally the mission of the warriors (Reiner, Annie, Bertholt, etc) was to take back the founding titan and destroy the island. It was a kill or be killed situation much like real wars have been throughout history. He decided if the only way for his people to live was to kill everyone else than so be it.

So if eren didn't do rumbling they will steal the founding titan from eren and start the rumbling?

@ no they would’ve likely just killed them all off eventually. I’d imagine they’d save a few because they were great weapons but as technology was advancing they were becoming less effective. Titans were starting to seem more obsolete and the rumbling as a weapon would be more trouble to keep around than it’d be worth. I think they would’ve killed all subject of Ymir in the next like 10 years if he didn’t start to rumbling and kill most of the worlds population

I hope somewhere along the line he’s made a great friend that he could lean on and maybe live with right now. I think that’d be best if his family dynamics reinforce these negative behaviors. If he can be around someone with their head on straight to help him pick up on good habits he can do this. He’s still young and this could be a great wake up call for the guy.
