What I disliked from the show was when they tried to turn the gay plot points from the original comic into modern day lgbtq shit. Leave that out. You’re putting modern day concepts into someone else’s story

@@LaughingLuLu well it’s not my opinion. A lot of gay people in todays world are trying to move away from the lgbtq literally because it’s not gay pride anymore, it’s a political movement filled with attention seekers who shoehorn themselves into the group. The original comic was not written for some gay representation, it included a gay character because there were real gay war vets who could not be with people they loved after the war because their lives would be ruined. They were included to commentate on a real historical fact of the time. Drag queens, trans etc did not exist in that as a concept in that period. It’s there for storytelling accurate to the period, including modern concepts is just tainting the intent with the writers modern beliefs. Adding that in is just political pandering for social brownie points
@@zzodysseuszz I would agree with you if the entire show was set during world war 2 with Larry Trainor, but the show takes place in modern day so therefore it's gonna have modern day topics and themes.

Its always so interesting watching show that you're going to be like: "Yep this is going to be an underrated gem and a cult classic" Its both good and bad but you know what? As long as the end result is good, I'm still happy.

Hello @LaughingLuLu I just wanted to say your video essay was amazing. I love the Doom Patrol from the moment it aired and I greatly appreciate your kind words that you gave out about the show. I have to agree that season 4 was a bit rocky and I wish they would have given a conclusion to both Dorothy and Kipling but the finale overall was both tragic and beautiful to watch. Plus you have to admit that season is a whole lot better compared to some of the MCU shows especially ones like Secret Invasion and Wandavision there was even a article online called “Inverse” that discussed about how season 2 of Doom Patrol avoided Wandavision’s finale flaw basically it was trying to avoid the mistakes Wandavision had made in its finale compared to that of Doom Patrols. Anyway I hope you see this text and hopefully respond back, have a nice day.
Thanks for watching! I'm kinda glad they ended at season 4, because season 5 might've been stretching the show too thin. Even though the ending was rough, the show was most definitely 1000% times better than all of the mcu shows combined (besides Loki and Moon Knight, which I actually really like).
@@LaughingLuLu yeah that’s true but I kind of wish Loki could have done different variations on Kang because how come Loki can be played by different actors like a girl, a little kid, a old man, a black man, and a alligator. But Kang is just played by a single actor, I’m not trying to be rude but I’m just saying that in the cartoon Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes we saw three different variants of Kang, one was an old man, the other a woman, and a child. I wish that they would have done that. Please don’t think I’m being rude or anything like that and I did like Moon Knight but if I had to be honest I think Doom Patrol handled it better with Crazy Jane they made DID (dissociative identity disorder) more normal and tried to make a little more lighthearted compared to Moon Knight’s. And Doom Patrol doesn’t really seem to do Identity politics compared to marvel like the part with “are you a Egyptian hero?” it just didn’t sound right, again please don’t think I’m being rude or anything. Where in Doom Patrol they just let us the audience relate to any character even if some are people of color like Madame Rouge, Cyborg, and Crazy Jane even their white counterparts like Cliff, Rita, and Larry who is a gay man but you can relate to them on either a personal level or by the choices we make too or even how we act.

I adore this team. The show is one of the best shows I've ever seen. The fact they adapted so much of the 90s comic run is astounding. Best super hero show ever!

originally in the comics beast boy was part of the team, i think anything live action is terrified of using that character though bc the sfx for his powers would probably be a lot of money to get all the different animals
@@mikaela5938 The problem was they put Beast Boy in the Titans show and they couldnt bring him on Doom Patrol.

@@mikaela5938 They probably could have worked around it somehow but they just never did. And both shows were going on at the same time, so they probably figured he could only be in one show or the other.
My favorite episode was the one that introduced us to Danny rhe Street. Imagine a place that openly welcomed all of society's "rejects" with open arms; never judging them, hating them for their identities or wanting to force them to be "normal" like so many politicians are currently doing

I thought it was too fractured and not mature enough to tackle the harder stuff. It had an identity crisis that really comes to a crescendo in season 3 and I tapped out by that point.
That's a fair argument. Sometimes the wacky goofiness did outweigh the maturity, so sometimes the mature stuff was hard to take seriously.
That's not how immortality works.
I mean it's not like immortality exists in real life, so I don't think it's a big deal.

I love Brendan Fraser. He absolutely crushes every role he's in, especially this one.
@LaughingLuLu he reminds me of Walton Goggins and Ben Foster. They can pull off the characters that are layered but don't take themselves too serious. Venus Van Dam in sons of anarchy and the apartment neighbor in Thomas Jane's punisher. Brendan, I thought fell off after all those mummy movies and quit Hollywood. But really he wrecked his body doing stunts and has had a ton of surgery and therapy I'd love to see some behind the scenes on this. He wasn't suited to and mostly just did voice work. Do they use the robot actor to emote to Brandon's lines or vice versa
Doom Patrol is one of the best Super Hero shows, and it's weird that it came out of the DCEU - the mistake I know everyone wants to forget. It proved that instead of making your stories to cater to toxic dude-bro (because comics still have that knee-jerk idea that only young white boys like comics and it shows) who complains about woke this and woke that when they are not the center. Just tell the stories, make the stories new and unique. And, most importantly, lean into the absurdity of super heroes. Even Marvel is afraid to lean into exactly what they are, comic book movies. That's why they kill off villains and don't make a world of villains so that super heroes can justify their existence. As silly as I find so many comic villains they do justify why there needs to be an Avengers or Justice League or even a Doom Patrol. There's a lie that has always been told about comic geeks when they assess their medium being translated to movies and TV. The lie is was want panel by panel recreations of every story and every hero. What we've been saying since the first crappy Captain America movie (from the 1970s, i am 62 years old and have been collecting comics since 1969) is just respect the essence of what they are and why we come back to them so often. We know the costumes are mostly silly, we know that things super people do are just absolutely impossible, we know the Frog Man and Kang are idiotic characters. Just keep with the heart of what makes these comic so popular and long lasting. Marvel almost did, but they are scare to let the MCU be the Marvel Universe. All that "realism" nonsense, I guess. I remember after Batman Begins people were asking if we'd see the more eccentric villains like Clayface or Poison Ivy done right and Nolan was all "No we want to make Batman realistic." Realistic? A billionaire in a bat costume that spends all night long jumping from rooftops and beating the crap out of criminal, realistic? What the F was Nolan and anyone who expressed that opinion smoking? Doom Patrol was silly, absurdist on humongous level, but it was also touching, character driven and it didn't matter that the main character was a brain in a robot body. Or that one set of villains were flesh eating butts who loved show tunes. (Only in Doom Patrol does that sentence make a lick of sense.) it didn't matter that one of the side characters was a non-binary transgender living street being hunted for destruction by the Normal Agency. It was insane. it was fun. It was Doom Patrol and would we have it any other way?

The Forgotten Superhero Movie You Need to see Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe my favorite character was Bloodshot portrayed by the long departed Jason David Frank one of his few non Power Rangers acting roles and he killed It
Hmm interesting, I've never heard of that, but I'll check it out.
I always like the Doom Patrol comics, especially the originals, and yes, Cliff was the heart and soul. But it just never took off for some reason despite several attempts. TBH, I wasn't even aware that this live-action version existed, but if I stumble over it someday, I'll definitely give it a look. Thanks!

Yeah I can see an argument where you can say he was randomly thrown in there just to give the show a well known character. Even if that's kind of true, I think they did very well with his character, giving him really good character development and making him a fun part of the team.
Because of all popular characters the general audience actually cares about. Cyborg thematically fits the Doom Patrol. And honestly..... I'm kinda glad that he is in a better show than Titans. lol

Yeah, I understand. I had a few reasons why I did it, that I explained to a few other people. But I am 100% going to do it differently for the next video I make like this. I'm gonna make sure a chunk of the video at the beginning is spoiler free.

@@catborg780 I may be forever disappointed in how soon the show ended, but I'll be forever thankful it ended on its own terms, without execs forcing the characters to constantly backtrack forever for the sake of more episodes.

Absolutely insane, but so lovable!
Of all the comic-book adaptations I've seen, perhaps the closest spiritually (and often textually) to its source material. I remember thinking more than once--are they going to (insert deeply unlikely Grant Morrison plot point/character here) and then being surprised and delighted when they pretty much did and pulled it off.
True! They embraced all the comic book wackiness like no other comic book show.
I’m trying to be constructive here and I think you should have structured this more like a video essay because you explain all the endings and plot points of the show in your video. Your title suggests that the video is gonna explain why you think it’s good and convince me to watch the show with no spoilers and just enough info to get me intrigued but you just tell me everything that happens so it’s more of an essay. nobody is going to watch a show and all its seasons when you tell them every single thing about it.
Yeah, I had another person tell me this. I agree, but the reason I did it is so the video will appeal more to already established fans as well as new people. I also put chapters for each season in case someone wants to know about season 1 but then not about anything else. I tried doing a similar video about another show, but without spoilers. The video was really short and I felt like something was missing.

The video itself is great but I just think the title is misleading and makes the video be put in the wrong audience, it’s a great video essay but not the best tease for me to think about checking out the show. for example I WAS really intrigued with the show after watching a lot of your video and am really thinking about watching it now but I had to turn off your video in the middle of it so that I could actually fully enjoy the show and I don’t think that’s good. It would benefit a lot more I feel if it was just called “The Worst Superhero Show In The World” and had a disclaimer that your gonna talk extensively about everything in the show and why you love it and it’ll contain heavy spoilers. There are a lot of people out there who watch super extensive video essays on shows they’ve never seen before, get entirely spoiled, and then go watch the show themselves and love it, so I don’t think you’ll be missing out on either audience of people that love it already and new viewers that do that kind of thing, but I think your entirely missing the section of people that just wanna know enough info to be intrigued. I think though if you wanted all 3 you could have a small chapter in the beginning purely devoted to just teasing the “curious about the show” audience full of really fun non spoilery stuff and then say from this point on your gonna talk about the show extensively. I think that’ll work better because I wasn’t even sure when I should stop watching the video while you were talking about it cause I was weirdly confused on if this vid was just gonna explain everything or if I was still supposed to be teased. I had to ask myself “damn, this vid’s pretty good and I already know season 1 2 and the first part of 3 should I just finish the video or actually watch this cool show” and I don’t think that’s what you were going for. That’s just my 2 cents but really great video apart from that.

I agree. I'm a huge Gerard Way fan, as well as a James Gunn fan. Even if the Doom Patrol won't exist in the new DCU, I think James Gunn will do amazing.

@@Mecharnie_Dobbs At the time of making the video I made it for people that had already seen it, but then I thought of the title afterwards and wanted to also appeal to new people, so then it became like kind of both. Obviously I didn't do a good job, so next video I make I'm going to separate the spoiler and non spoiler stuff.

Overall, loved this series. Think it is the best of the spinoffs. The finale wss disappointing to me because too many things that were unbelievable, such as how did Michonne find Jadis' room so easily. The writers had a couple of years to get this right. For the most part, they did. But the finale could have been better. Think they wasted Beale and Thorne's characters. Both great actors!

I knew we wouldn’t get more reunions, I wanted more CRM. That’s what’s been built up & we have Plenty of Richonne throughout & they squandered all the potential of the CRM, etc. and massively wasted Terry O’Quinn. Also the reunion with RJ was SO DAMN CRINGE. It hurt my soul.
