we try to shim the gearbox in this video and explain how I do this process and how hit and miss it can be with parts that are not from the engine when originally built, I hope you get something on what is a vital part of any rebuild of any engine.

At last the start of the engine rebuild, we start with the rear hub bearing and seal, then move onto the install of the layshaft rady to mount the gearbox , this is covered in part 10 onwards.

time to start on the engine, I had a lot of issues making the kickstart shaft work with the Li side casing as this one is beefed up and the GP casings are different to the Li version and this shaft has been modified to fit , at least the shaft is an upgrade to the Li version that was worn out , the usual fettling to make the new parts fit, standard Lambretta issues I`m afraid,

Funnily enough have just used mine on my S2 which I’m stripping down atm.. well that’s before I caught your germs from your last video…. lol I used it on both my S3’s, I haven’t used the alternative one so can’t compare.. I used gorilla tape on mine, but no marks whatsoever.. Happy NY👍
I wondered who I passed my germs onto as feeling a bit better now, great tool well worth the money, happy NY ,hope you get better soon mate all the best
Wot mapping paste would ya recommend, iv just got a new Indian flywheel and not happy with the fitment ,great videos as always. Happy new year.
Happy new year, any good mild paste for car valve grinding paste is good,
@m1scooterlife259 ,thanks for the reply Roy, is there any reason why youv went with 17 ,I haven't done mine timeing yet but am seeing so many different timeings am getting confused and I haven't had any shandys yet lol ,my set up is all tv175 ,22mil dellorto carburettor and series 2 big bore series 3 air box and scoop as I live in italy am thinking cause of the very high heat 😀 wot would ya recommend ,cheers
@modslil I go 18 or 17 before tdc as it seems to work for me on standard and mild tuned engines with out rubbish fuel we have now
@m1scooterlife259 thanks, for the reply, looking forward to rest of the LI videos ,wot colour have ya in mind, and will it be for sale 😀
I'm thinking VW bay leaf green and yes it's going to be on sale when it's done. I think it will look like a classic scooter colour and suit the look I'm going for
Happy New Year....roy

Thanks for your email(Li125 resto👍)M1 scooter life👌👌👌👏👏👏
I bought myself a Jockey Boxenstop stop headlight upgrade for my S3 .. That was a couple of years ago, I still haven’t got around to fitting it..🙄 I don’t know why I bothered really as I’m on my way home maybe an hour before it gets dark anyway..
I always say ,"they can't say they never saw you if you blind them". Truth is they never look, do they
Once again mate a superb detailed vlog,I’m by no means a mechanic only know the basics about lammys, not owned one since 1989,when I rode it to the Yarmouth scooter rally and that event put me off rallies so sold my sx,anyway lammys have always been a tad unreliable so you had no choice to know the basics,so the way you’ve explained things has been ok for me to be honest, look forward to the next episode Once again thanks for sharing
Thanks Sid🍺🍺🍺
you could have explained the floatlng of the in more detail
What do you need to know?
Thanks M1 Scooter life👍
Sorry to hear about the cold... hopefully it will move on soon

Excellent video M1 Scooter life👍.....these vids of yours are making feel like I wanna have a go at an engine build mate👌.....👍
It's the only way to learn, when I started scootering , all of us knew nothing about them at all, it's a great pastime to have, lots of different things that can be done.
Thanks for reply M1 scooter life.....once I’ve made up my mind Bout the engine build.....I may have a few Questions for ya😉
Thanks M1 scooter life.....👍really good video mate
Thanks 👍
Always love your videos

Excellent video M1👍

Great video M1👍
Great video on how to rebuild the engine, I’ve stripped & rebuilt my two S3 Lambrettas which was easy, I haven’t rebuilt an engine though, but not because I haven’t got the ability, it’s just my local Lambretta workshop does them all the time & does such a great job. I’m looking forward to the rest of the rebuild especially the electrical side AC/DC conversion which you’re going to do. I’m just about to start stripping down another Lambretta but this one is a S2.. This time the engine isn’t seized but still on 6V & points. Keep up the great work👍 Happy Christmas to you & your family
@@dougiebrown9318 thanks, happy Christmas to you and yours too, the engine I'm doing was supposed to be worked on by a shop, so not sure what went on with it, I'm looking a led lights front and back on it too.
Good to see you back with another video bro👍 I've just bought myself a lambretta li 125 with a 186 kit . The dude I bought it from had it for 7-8 yes & said he done nothing to it. I'm in the process of getting everything to replace the inners of the engine,I'm only waiting for the gearbox & clutch to turn up. I'm not mechanically savvy in any way shape or for but since watching your videos,I think I might just be able to pull it off🙄 My question for you is, should I remove the engine or could I get away without removing it? Your videos are really informative,I really appreciate that you share your skills on RUclips 👍 I hope you & your family have a great Xmas holiday ✌️🏴
@@SquiddysAquaticts thanks mate, engine out is always the best way, take your time, just getting the parts you need can be hit and miss, most clubs have expert's that help out with tools and advice, hope you have fun with you scooter, every one started somewhere, it's never been a better time to restore a scooter. Merry Christmas to you and yours , ask away that's what we are here for 😉
Very informative vid
Thanks again Paul
Great use of the hubnut locking washer! Great use of the crank balance tool as well. It's so easy to blue that race by overheating it. Another enjoyable vid
thanks Paul
Those paper/fibre cylinder base gaskets are rubbish , I always use alloy ones much more reliable
Reading through comments and have found me own answer to silent block tool question 👍thanks all the same M1
@@JosephHackett-wz1fl most of the tools are on ebay or direct on scooter dealers sites, sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I was at work. Good luck
Hi M1 Scooter life......can I ask what the name of the tool is for taking out the silent blocks.....I’m a very new viewer and really enjoy last couple of Vids.....Dont have a scooter at this present time....although I owned an LD 125 many years ago.....40 years ago......thanks for these videos M1 scooter life👍
@@JosephHackett-wz1fl good luck
What area are you based please ? Would you consider taking on a project in the new year ?
Hi great videos always watch. Question. The drive side bearing sometimes comes with its own and some times with two. I noticed the one you fitted pt 13 had no extra seals. Is there any benefit of one or even both internal seals as surely you could be starving the bearing from lubrication. Your opinion would be great. Now onto pt 14. Better then telly. Ps. A fork strip rebuild could be interesting especially go. Regards terry. Get a heater pls.
@@terryfaulkes8339 the seal fitted to the bearing would only be needed on the crank side as the gearbox oil is used to lubricate the bearing and you would only need the seal in any case if you can't seal the drive side from leaking, usually only on sil casings. The plate ,seal and halite washer should seal the bearing off. I should of bought or obtained a plate to heat the mag side up by now. Cheers
Very interesting vid. Those oil plate screws have always been my biggest worry. I've never had any come loose and hopefully never will!
Again sometimes it could be a made up problem, you would think these engines would fall apart as soon as you use them ,instead of lasting for years and years
Great find getting an innocenti mag housing in good nick! That engine will give years of good service. Great vid
I hope so, not found an original one for years that's usable and threads are good, 60 year old parts
Another interesting vlog mate, very knowledgeable and an enjoy to watch and listen too, definitely helps when ye explain things and show us too Thanks once again for sharing
Thanks mate
Once again another top video mate,if and when I ever need to do any of this,I’ve got your vlogs for reference Many thanks for sharing
Thanks again mate
I like the speedo weres it from ,great videos as always.
It's American Trailtech vapour, the headset top was from Vietnam and is solid ali, thanks for your input, its appreciated 👍
Once again mate another vlog I thoroughly enjoyed watching,I’m enjoying all of these you post and it’s always great to see how you go about building this lammy from the ground up and seeing every stage of the build, definitely interesting and I can’t wait to see the finished article All the best from a very cold Ireland

Thanks it's hopefully to inspire some more into doing the work themselves.

I refitted my kickstart mechanism 20 years ago. If you do it right usually no problems.
@@Zacky12345 if in good condition and original to the engine you usually don't have issues, nowdays it's a bit hit and miss 😉
@@m1scooterlife259 original broke, must have done it right😂
It survived so it must of been right at some point😉

Great tip fitting the oil seals before assembly! I've said it often in the comments on your vids, there's tips like this on view that take years to learn. Great vid
Thanks Paul, the video was a bit hit and miss as I had a lot of fettling on the kickstart mechanism to adjust to fit old sil ones just fitted.
Once again mate another intuitive vlog,it’s aways great to watch a true craftsman at work
Thank you, was a lot more work than I was expecting. But its just take your time and it will be good.

Citric acid is my next purchase! Great vid
It works mate, a lot cheaper than evaporust, but either work great
Once again mate thanks for the upload, short and sweet as they say
Just waiting for all the parts to come, then it's rebuild time.
@@m1scooterlife259 to which I’m looking forward to mate
The side casing was a Series 2 anyway...
The that came with the engine on the scooter was the correct series 3 the new one I got is also a correct series 3 on the engine I show on the floor is a series 2 li engine and that's got the correct chain case for that engine, the series 2 has a large bump stop and the series 3 hasn't got the bump that protrudes on the series 2.
hello, I also have my first experience with Calais to Dover and I would like to ask you when you make the appointment in Calais and give you the exact post code location, thank you very much
All done on the internet
Great videos as always Terry, keep them coming, I, like others, really enjoy them 👍🏻
Cleaning the crud off the parts atm, got most of the bits to make a start on the engine rebuild soon
