The new Costco Gerry Lopez foam surfboard review! February 9, 2021
Просмотров 54 тыс.3 года назад
The Gerry Lopez foamy. I just picked one up from Costco for $99 and that included the leash. Way better than a Wavestorm. I always hated foam boards, but this thing is amazing. It’s not just for people who are learning. I wanted to be one of the first people to do a review. It rides like a great longboard and better in some ways. Abundant paddling power and it turns well for a board of this siz...

Very surprised test drove one yesterday! Got this flex in it makes it interesting. Like the no wax softy too.
thank you! it made my lifer easier
Cool video Braddah ! i just pick up one at Costco for 99 bucks on Oahu, ready for try um out at Waikiki beach. 🤙🏾
This is my favorite board review
Gratze!
Hi Eddie!! Thank you for being such a good friend!!
I bought an 'Island' foamie as my first surfboard and I dont really want to grow up and go to a fibreglass board. only problem is heat causes bubbles which is a problem in summer.
No están al revés las quillas? Digo no se...
Really great looking board
I got mine and rode it for the first time, and it’s quite slippery. I think I need to put foamie wax on it
I'm just looking at this going on sale tomorrow for £75. Just did about 7x2hr surfing session. At my local surf school. Would this be good to start surfing on my own?
The screw was holding my package of fins/leash to the board
Thanks for the video chief. I am just about to bag one of these and get back in the water.
Hey man, just wanted to say that I hope you do more surfing vids. Reminds me of home! Also, thanks for being awesome!
Thanks man!
This board sucks compared to wavestorm. I’m returning mine
I agree, the Leah rope is too long on bigger waves it will cut through the board, there is a reason they make the rail saver that is attached to the para cord, I bought a better ultra light leash and just attach it to the loop which is the second loop under where they expect you to attach the original para cord to which the leash is attached.
These boards suck and fall apart fast
Gerry Lopez is a complete fake. And you are a complete kook. Those foam prices of crap are doing nothing but filling up landfills.
It’s $219 now :/ still buying it though
Did you wax it?
You can, but I don't think you need to wax these things.
@@edfeuer8462 thanks a million Ed!
I liked it..however you need to make sure people can see exactly what you are doing. On this video when I comes to the leash it was literally impossible so see how you did it. Still I like that you are clear and to the point
Thank you so much man
Is it still $99?
Please go to a local surf shop 🙏 this is straight garbage advertising.
Learn on a Gerry and then go to a local surf shop to buy a performance board.
@@edfeuer8462 Pay no mind. People appreciate you posting. I've got 4 other boards, all of 'em have their advantages/disadvantages-- this baby is overall fun. As mentioned, I surf a reefy place and the durability of the hard plastic bottom alone ( not having to patch so much ) and not have to worry about damaging my $1000 board, makes it F-u-n.
Thanks for this review, and thanks Gerry, for all that you have so generously brought to our world of surfing. Best thoughts for you going forward -
You are sucker for marketing strategy. Lopez is a capitalist pig
@@Ck-zk3we What are you - do you even surf?
Are you all keeping the black tail guard on? Or is it just for shipping purposes. Seems to have sharp edges that could cause some unneeded injury. I'm thinking of taking it off and filling in the screw holes with caulk? Thoughts?
It's a functional part of the board. Tail-blocks were popular in the 60s on the old longboards. The foam tails tend to lose their shape.
@@edfeuer8462 Thanks Ed.
I took mine off a year ago. It has some exposed holes ya gotta plug up. I gorilla glued all screw holes and edges of plastic 'fabric' ( not visible behind orginal tailblock) and cut out a flexible rubber mat to replace the original tailblock. glued that baby water tight. That original tailblock has edge sticking out, so I figured less resistance with it gone. I replaced the flexy fins with stiffer fins. I like it better. So far, 3'-4' with smooth faces works the best. I surf a reefy place and that hard plastic bottom saved many hours repairing dings like my old fiber glass board. Overall, a little bouncy in white water and you can't crank a hard turn ( after the initial cutback into the white water- gotta go a little easier- rail a bit too fat ) like a thinner epoxy or fiber glass board. Easy paddle into the wave ( nice glide). Can't beat it for a fun board.
@@edfeuer8462 you have no clue
You have the best vibes. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for making this!!! This helped me so much!
I got lucky and found a wave storm in the dumpster
Those things are money! Surprisingly versatile. I've been riding this at North Shore and the performance and durability has exceeded my expectations. Best value board in the market by far.
$109 Dollars at Costco's in Honolulu, Hawaii
RIP WAVESTORM ;(
If you attached the leash rope that way, it will cut thru the rail like a rope saw. Best to put the leash rope to the side and just attached the "rail saver" directly to the nylon webbing loop. If you don't want to do that, double over the leash rope evenly, then at least pass the rail saver thru both ends of the leash rope to shorten the length.
I don’t understand what you mean. Can you show it through a video
@@stevenhylton273 basically dont use the knot that he made just use the leash
@@AndresGarcia-sn5dqwait do u know exactly why
🤙 shred like gerry
That damn black plastic piece on the bottom almost broke my foot yesterday. Took it off. Let's see if the whole thing falls apart now
Currently $110 at Costco here on Oahu. Just got one for the family
Still a smoking deal! Take it out to Pipeline!
classic line, "I'm not making any money," then says "subscribe so I can make money," just messin, haha! appreciate the video, shaka!
Is this good for a beginner?
Definitely! There isn't a better board for a beginner.
$99.... wow.... it is $189 at online costco in ca. ???
I know! I am really confused!
My friend just bought one for $99.00 at the store. When they're available in the store, they are $99.00.
Bought mine for 115 bucks ( with tax), but word is out, they're about 180 bucks now.
I recommend tightening the plastic bolts on the top of the board. (Use a coin)
Duuuude that was the advice I was looking for 😅 made all the difference 😊these fins were wobbly as f🎉ck
Gerrys kids
Where does this board still sell for $99??!! I only see this and wavestorms for $189 now :(
In Costco stores. I just got it for $99
$80 right now
YEAH BRAH!!!!! IM GOIN!!!!FOR ALL OF YALL HATERS IM DROPPING IN EARLY AND FAST SO........
Agree with everything you said. Wavestorm feels too bulky and slow, and I was expecting somewhat the same experience with this one, but I was blown away by how much better it is to ride and maneuver! I love this board! Costco had it for 99 about a month ago again, and that’s when I got it. But it has sold out again. You do need to keep going and checking as they sell out fast.
Your Hillarious....the camera loves you

Thanks, bros. That center fin mystery screw is ridiculous. Thanks for confirming how to deal with that!
Why did they put that philips screw right in the center fcs box? I removed the black washer and then just drove the screw in deeper because I was wondering if it were anchoring into a wooden core??
I have no idea!
Did you figure it out?
The way that I removed the cardboard packaging, didn’t make the screw’s function so apparent. We are meant to remove it and it has no function other than to anchor the initial packaging from the factory.
@@docdimo thanks for the reply. What about the hole that is left open? Should it be filled? Seems like it would fill with water. What about the tail guard do you leave that on too?
@Mark.. yes it is anchored to a plywood stringer in the middle of the board including one on each side for which sums up to plywood stringers
We ride proper fiberglass logs but when my wife and daughters surf Doheny we ride softboards because of the high probability that someone is going to crash into your glassed board. The tail block and FCS setup give a more rigid tail with a hard edge that makes turning more responsive. No shame for me riding this soft top out at Doho, these things are fun and I use my proper logs when I surf San O or the Bu.
Thanks for the review! I just bought this board last week as I being my surfing journey and I was wondering if this board needs to be waxed before heading to the waters?
I just picked this board up...Did you end up waxing it? How'd it go?
No wax needed.
No wax is OK, but I tried to see the diff with a good waxing. It did make a diff for me- foot griping, made for better feel on maneuvering.
Hi does it fit inside the car??
Well that kind of depends on the car?
Fits in a Prius
