Can you explain what’s going on here? I know how the VP works (I think) with all its time/pitch shifting wizardry, but are you restarting the loop at other pitches while simultaneously playing the initial pitch? Or are you changing the pitch of the loop while it’s playing continuously while playing the initial pitch? Or something else entirely? Not sure I even know how to word my question. Either way this is a really cool demo! I’ve been on the hunt for a VP for a bit now.
It’s all the same sample. (1 bar loop from memory) All the timing is aligned. (VP lets you do this) I’m playing it polyphonically . The VP is amazing… truely ahead of its time and turns all my crate digging sampling on its head. A sample I would have rejected in the past now becomes usable
@ thanks for the response. That’s what I thought and I watched it so many times trying to confirm it 😅. I know its primary function is phrase sampling and pitch/time stretching, but I was wondering if it was also good for sampling monophonic sources like basses and playing them back chromatically. I’ve read plenty of stuff about how it doesn’t need to multi sample because it can deliver comparable results with just one sample, but I’ve yet to see in any demos of that. Wouldn’t be my primary reason for purchasing one, just seeing if I can kill two birds with one stone. Thanks!
This is great, I'd love to hear a full length version.
Thanks &,appreciated
I like it. Pity they are so expesnive, these rack eventides from way back…
Yes they are now very expensive . I used to buy them broken for cheap a few years ago. Wish I had bought and kept more !
Nice work ! Any chance you could share your notes about these mods so that I could try to replicate them on mine ?
same same! How is this done? Beyond the obvious extra pots added, is this a ROM replacement?
It was a long time ago - but basically. Individual oscillators (based around 555’s) all having their clock rate determined by the pot . These square wave oscillators were connected directly to the gate array ic (which is SMT , so that also presents its own challenges) It’s not for the faint hearted - ie not like a simple mod to a 606 etc
See reply to the other comment regarding pitch . The ROM replacement is a currently available kit from HKA . Kinda cool , has about 6-7 rom sets in there. 707 , 727 , DMX , LinnDrum , 808 , 909 from memory. Worth checking out
@@mikuspilatus OK, and is the pitch of the HKA kit sounds also altered when selected ? Are all the pots the same value ? And which value did you choose ? Also, what are all those switches for at the left of the TR ?
Yes , the pitch of the selected sounds are altered by the pots . The value of the pot is not critical as you can adjust the frequency range of the 555 by altering other components . The switches control circuit bends - these smash bits of samples together
Damn 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks
@@mikuspilatus you’re welcome 🙏🏾

Thank you for letting me know about this type of device.😂

Those sounds like they have just been serviced. Had my H3000 overhauled a few years sounds amazing now.
Yes , I had just repaired them both. (Well , one still has a fault - but closing in on that)
what overhaul did the H3000 get?
@@senorcoconut-f1o It has a crackling sound to it. Sort of like when a mic-pre needs re-capping but more digital sounding. Sent it to David. He said the power supply or something with the Caps was going bad. There was also something that needed a logic analyzer which David did not have. So he sent it to a guy in Chicago that had one. Not sure what that fixed though but it was a digital component. The eproms were fine though. He also went through the rest of the unit and replaced whatever else needed doing. Over all it was around $800 to fix.
Everyday I'm baffled by your gear, how did you acquire such an amazing collection of classic gear?
I bought most of my stuff decades ago when it was cheap and broken. FWIW these two 910’s are not mine - I was repairing them for others. (But I do have my own 910)
Pretty cool...Do i dare ask what these are going for pricewise?
You can still buy them new - so they pop up second hand for much less.
(asking) Prices seem to vary wildly, from $500 to $5000. I always thought they are around $1000-$1500 new (?) so used they should be $1000 or under, but maybe I'm out of the loop. I like the look of their more recent desktop versions - but more compact. Or the huge old QUAD (!) version.. yes, four dual filters in one big rack
@@EvLoutonian I picked up mine for $700 AU S/H. The Quad version would be cool , but I think that would be too much Sherman for my tastes !
@ $700 is a great price, I'd say! I purchased my first Sherman new (around Y2K) for $1250 AUD (IIRC). Moved OS & sold it a few years later, but always hankered for another one, so I was happy when I managed to pick up a used one at a SofMap store in Osaka for $450 around 2009 (IIRC). Ultimately I decided to sell that one & look out for a v2 for a good price, but I've never sprung for another (as yet!) 🥹
@ nothing better than buying something you’ve bought and sold again . For me Jomox Xbase , MAM Warp9 filter , TB303 (though eventually I got my RE-303) , Nord Lead 2
envelope trigger via midi?
Yes - triggering both env via midi
Maybe the most charming iteration of digital synthesis. I'm currently looking for quality trigger-able gates but this is something else entirely.. Thanks!
The D50 is spectacular and so varied - love it. I’m a big fan of envelope filtering (pedals , racks etc) on sounds - a real creative tool
@mikuspilatus It the mutator triggered by sound/volume?
In this clip - triggered by MIDI . But it does trigger via audio source of a trigger in . (AD or Envelope follower)
Never seen this...thats fire! Great demo!
I looooove the 440 - cracker of a machine
Man that pump is beautiful subscribing!
It’s like compression , but rolling off tops
@@mikuspilatus its like a narly filter and compressor with Lfo and all that...very nice i might have to grab one of these ..
Behringer have a clone in the works.
i have one too and it's a very unique synth...thanks for the inspo 🤩😁👍🏻
Cheers - it’s an oddball but I great and fun synth . I’m not a fan of its FX so I typically disable them .
The mutator can't link left+right settings, compressor style?
In short - no , not easily.
Wow
That’s the sound of a filter - “Wowowow”
This is it!

sweet
Thanks !
Dumb question, but what is going on at 1:10? LFO modulating pulse width? What a great sounding synth! B)
Yep - PWM . It is a spectacular sounding synth .
I like how you keep it protected with its own case. What a gem.
Thanks - i typically pick n choose kit for jams , so keeping it mobile and accessible is ideal for me. Hence the patchbay in the front
Such a cool feat. But what is that drum box, an Akai? Supertight!
Thanks - it sure was an effort to make . The other machine - Akai MPC1000 with a different skin
Very nice sound!
Thank you very much
Yes
You like ?
@mikuspilatus I love
Looks and sounds great! Also, the case and front panel looks very professional, was it made from scratch?
Thank you . I drew panel up in CAD then had it laser cut. But other than that , all the rest by me and DIY
So nice energy sound. Great job 🔥
Thanks !
Can you share details or links on the build process, please? How did you get that enclosure made? How long did the whole build take you? And is this your own unique customization of the midibox sid or are there schematics out there for a similar build? Amazing sounding synth!
Hi there. It was a long time ago. It was my own unique customisation . I drew up face in CAD and had it laser cut then folded into shape. I based it around my Moog source. Took a while - especially wiring up the control surface. As it was a 1 off - no schematics other than what exists on MIDIbox archives etc. Looks aside , it’s a MB6582 with a keyboard and a built in power supply / more user friendly buttons etc. Thanks
@mikuspilatus thanks for your response, that's really an awesome build! It's inspiring me to want to take a shot at putting a midibox sid together. Definitely don't have the CAD skills for case customization though lol.
DIY is great. Not sure how skilled you are - but guitar pedals are a great intro to making electronics.
Need that screen. Whered you get it? Great sound here BTW. Classic.
Thanks - it’s easy on my eyes. I got it off eBay , was expensive however .
What a Christmas treat 🙏
Ho ho ho

will you recommend also the S 700 ?? I got a S612 aswell and wich we can instal a gotten on that one to get longer same times //
The S700 is great as you can have multiple samples at once , but I’d prob be happier with 612 if I had to choose owing to its hands on nature. The 612 is a happy accident machine . Hit n miss - but when it hits , it works
Thanks yes I got the s612 and I have to say that I’ve been waiting 30 years of production before discovering this one .. had plenty of them line the s2000 when I stared but I have to say that this one is the holly gram of my studio it’s just amazing ! Just a. Shame that we can’t change the memory inside
I think embracing its happy accidents is the way to go rather than seek out repeatability . Sonically the S700 is very similar. For your S612 - I’d look at getting the FDM (filter defeat module) if you haven’t already . Check out a few other S612 and S700 videos I did
Great
Thanks
Cool. Which sid-versions?
8 x 8582’s
The soundest sounds awfully close to what comes out of my Wersi CX5. At the time many drum machines of smaller manufacturers had the set, including many Italian incarnations. Not bad as such though.
Interesting . I have no doubt sound sets or similar were shared in the early days of digital drum machines. (Drumtraks and the acknowledged poaching of sounds from LinnDrum for example)
A demo with the 8 ?
Possibly
Just done one for ya
