Berserk Vol 12 by Kentaro Miura | The evil fruit of ambition
Today I'm talking about volume 12 of Berserk. Miura writes about a demoralized Band of the Hawk after they realize that Griffith is no longer a strong leader. Griffith then flees and uses the behelit to make contact with the Godhand. What happens when Guts tries to stop him? Watch along to find out. I like how Miura writes about Griffith's ambition as well as the cool and creepy art he uses.

I've seen some signs of her being reassessed, but there were decades when you didn't see her represented in anthologies. Politically focused poetry was considered icky-poo. We have the feminists pushing that the personal is political and the strong voices of African American poets for breaking through that attitude. I feel that one of the hallmarks of 21st Century poetry is that poetry that takes a position is thought to be dragging a high art through the muck of politics. You chose a good poem to share. It still feels relevant. I wonder what she'd be writing about if she were still alive today.

I have only seen 1997 berserk anime for the golden age. I have read the black swordsman arc but I skipped the golden age while reading the manga. I picked up the golden age arc right where the show ends. I never knew about the King wanting to get intimate with his own daughter. How did that happen in the manga? and what else did I miss?

Fascinating. I loved the alliteration and the repetition of death in this poem. As you discussed this poem, I decided to look up how Lorca died. If you haven't already, check it out on Wikipedia. It helps illuminate the final question in this poem.

@@aroundtheweird Don't feel bad. If anything, the assumption of poets that we're going to understand who they're referring to and the details of their lives is ridiculous. Epigraph, footnote, whatever. Even Poetry Mag could have added a little blurb about Lorca and his manner of death. But no, they assume if you're part of the "in" crowd you know and everyone else be damned. There have been some valid reasons poetry has gotten a bad rap as being obscure and inbred.

Fascinating intro to this poem. Great job providing historical context. It's also a fascinating poem examining rage and voice and how we tolerate or don't tolerate others. As always, a relevant analysis. I agree that there's ambivalence toward the end of the poem about this sidewalk rage. I find this poem especially relevant now because of all of the random violence and mass shootings in our society these days. While the poet's rage may have arisen from her age, race and assimilation into NY life, I think it's recognizable elsewhere and in others. Thought-provoking for sure.

Really like your analysis!! It is such a strange feeling to 'technically' belong to either groups but socially you can't seem to fit in anywhere. One thing I struggle with with cases where there is a controversial author....Sometimes I find myself drawn to their works but feel conflicted because you disagree with their views...like for me its lovecraft. I love the cosmic horror as a genre but feel like lovecraft's work has not aged well...keep up the good work!!

Enjoyed your review. I have never read the books. I was introduced to Jin Yong's works in the mid '80's through the TVB Hong Kong tv series of this trilogy that came out in 1983. I watched them and fell in love with the series. The 7 Freaks are not my favorite teachers for Guo Jing. I thnk they are too narrow minded and makes too many assumptions before truly finding the actual truths. Guo Jing's character is too honest, nice and sometimes too forgiving I feel. But throughout the trials he goes through he never wavers from those traits. Without giving too much spoilers if you have not finished the first trilogy, how Guo Jing handles the issue with Genghis Khan. Most would not have been so forgiving as Guo Jing.

This is so interesting. I didn't believe selective amnesia was real until this year.... when I was cleaning my garage and finding my old journals and tax documents that showed my mother has been financially abusing me since I was 12 years old... :( It's insane. I have no memories of this, but it's my handwriting...... It served me to forget while I was a dependent. But I'm 51, and I have kids. I am so thankful that I wrote these events down.... because I can protect my children from her malevolence. :(
