    It's not so much what I'd be interested to see you paint as how, my thought is how does it come out if you go for a very contemporary painting technique with the older colors so something like prime a blood angel with a purple or magenta then give it a 45 degree zeinithal with a white followed by a straight down zenithal of a yellow then go over all that with the same red you used here, maybe mix your bright silvers into your black to edge highlight a lot of the black metal bits. I'm also curious how the transparency of the classic paints handles if thinned down for an airbrush. I like your use of just thinning layer paints down rather than relying on premade shades/washes but the fact that it is always black or black plus base color while retro/classic is obviously limiting. So go all out, but use the old mostly brighter paints as your pallet.

    That was a really nuce video! I wonder, did GWs recipe for paints change when they transitioned to the newer pots with black lids in I think the 2000s or something? Those were what I started with and many of them were pretty nice

    • @DrunkOnTeaUK
      @DrunkOnTeaUK 27 дней назад

      I think once the paints went through the name change to the current names the paints did change. The coverage became a lot better, needing fewer layers to achieve solid colour. The current GW line is really good. I mostly just use GW paints for my minis, they are easy to find, consistent across batches and work really well with my painting style.

    • @PrimordialNightmare
      @PrimordialNightmare 27 дней назад

      @@DrunkOnTeaUK I'm still mostly using GWs paints, but I have started experimenting with other paints, mostly because my town doesn't have a proper hobby shop and I didn't want to go all the way to a different city. the one colour I really miss is Teracotta, I don't think GWs XV-88 fits well and there are remarkably few equivalent paints I'm aware of, none of which sold at FLGS near me.

    • @DrunkOnTeaUK
      @DrunkOnTeaUK 27 дней назад

      There doesn't seem to be a lot out there that works as a replacement for terracotta. XV88 is a nice brown, but it's lacking the red tone. Have you tried Tau Light Ochre and mixing a bit of that in, it's not great but it does make it a bit closer.

    My number 1 tip to newcomers, just put paint on the model and thin your paints. The quicker you learn to thin your paints the faster you realize it doesn't matter if you "mess up". Thin paints wont obscure details, and you can paint over quite a few layers of thin paint before you start to lose details on your models.

      Thank you! I've been thinking about going through the chapters and painting them with a full rage of paints. For white scars, I would prime with white, base coat with corax white, pin shade with either thinned down celesta grey or maybe even apothecary white contrast. Then, edge highlight with White Scar, that should give a good crisp white look.

      I find about 7 or 8 paints to be a good number. Nuln oil always makes life easier than thinning down black for a shade. I also find it useful to have a highlight colour for power armour, that way every model across the army will have the same colours, unlike the variation you get when mixing paints.

    No primer? I get it doesn't come in the kit, but neither does the plastic glue or clippers used.

    • @DrunkOnTeaUK
      @DrunkOnTeaUK 2 месяца назад

      The clippers do come in the introductory starter set, and these Marines don't need glue as they are push fit. You can use a base paint as a "primer" as long as you cover the entire model it will give the other paints something to stick to. A specific primer is better, but for a beginner or single model, using paint will work, you just need to ensure you get full coverage or it will flake off.

      A lot of the push fit models don't go together amazingly well. Sometimes the pegs are a bit to long, and clipping a small amount from the end will give a better fit. But also there are some parts like the arm that will just always be a pain. It is a useful skill to learn how to mix paints to create your own highlight colours, but if you are going to buy some extra paints, Calgar blue is what I normally use for highlighting Ultramarines, it will save you a lot of time mixing, and ensure that every model is highlighted with the same colour. Welcome back to the hobby!

    Thank you for video using only 5 paints dos make it alot easy and les expansive because citadel paints are pricey lol .

      GW paints are expensive, they are good though. 5 paints is a pretty good amount for starting, over time you will no doubt grow your collection of paints, and eventually end up with loads of them!

    How about a fire team of Tau painted like Star Wars 501 Clones? Or, Guardsmen done up like Star Trek TOS Star Fleet (yellow command, red sgt, blue enlisted)?

    The Alien collour scheme features a brownish tint on the carapace highlights and some heavy use of glossy varnish on the "armoured bits" of the body. This way looks cool too, but it´s not very reminiscing of the film. Still, a good paint job and a pleasure to watch. Try doing a Hive Tyrant painted as the alien queen next time.

    • @DrunkOnTeaUK
      @DrunkOnTeaUK 3 месяца назад

      It was my own take more on the "style" of Alien. All the green lighting in the movie, the green grow from computer screens, the green in films title and poster, etc. A Hive tyrant as the Queen would be pretty cool, maybe I'll paint it in a more "true" scheme.

    I've been getting into Underworlds recently and want to paint my models, I'm glad I've finally found a video using the kit I'm looking at for practice and using only the stuff in it (sans the model holder) Thanks for showing even an amateur that's never held a brush before can do a decent job

    • @DrunkOnTeaUK
      @DrunkOnTeaUK 3 месяца назад

      Thank you! With a little practice and some patience, you should be able to paint models you are happy with pretty quickly. The only thing I would say to get is a cheap pack of brushes from amazon or your local hobby store. It's good to have a few different sizes around, but with cheap ones, when they get ruined or too hooked, you can just throw them away and get some new ones. Welcome to the hobby, and have fun painting the Underworlds models, they are some really nice looking minis.

      @DrunkOnTeaUK 3 месяца назад

      The assassin as spawn is an interesting idea, I'll have to keep that in mind. I've been thinking about trying some cell shaded paint schemes, it will probably take a while to work on and get the look correct, but it's been in my "to do" list for a little while, so keep an eye out!
